I am 95% sure DH is kidding ...

He is talking about renting this for a formal do. I'm sure he's kidding. He has to be kidding, right?

Yeah, he could totally work a kilt. Unfortunately, he has some tiresome anti-Scottish attitudes. (Oh, and I doubt a SF rental place would stock kilts! Well, maybe it would.)

But I could always suggest that, it's a really good idea.

I don't have anything against him trying to dress slightly more differently! Just not as a total clown.

a kilt! oh yes that would work

NotQuiteCockney · 31/01/2007 21:56

You lot are all a bit too swappy for me.

Yes, DH has a Scottish cousin, who looks much the same, only more rugbyish, and maybe two inches shorter (so still stupidly tall). He wears kilts to weddings, and it looks fine on him. (I mean fine, not fine, iyswim. Before anyone starts thinking I'm drooling at DH's cousin.)

God, he was home barely in time for dinner tonight, and then has spent most of the evening on phone calls for work. Now he's off at a neighbours, helping her with a work thing (to be fair, it's a neighbour we owe 7 gazillion favours to, and I told him to go). Tomorrow night he's coming home at a decent hour then going out for a drinks do, after the kids are down. (I might go too, at least.)

Then all is 'normal' until Sunday morning, when he leaves for SF. Shoot me now.

He is changing jobs, too, so is just insane with glee and cheerfullness but is only barely here.

Now he's saying he wants to not look like a waiter. So I've found some other interesting outfits on the same site, including some Nehru-jackety things. Well, there were some morning suit things (which we don't call morning suits) which he is point blank refusing to wear to an evening do .

And then he goes back to saying he'll just wear the default waiter outfit.

Ooh yes yes, put him in a Nehru jacket

MrsBadger · 01/02/2007 08:48

frock coat! frock coat!

or white tie?

NotQuiteCockney · 01/02/2007 08:55

DH has of course seen this thread.

And is most thrilled that MrQoQ thinks he is "not bad looking".

Yes, I think Nehru jackets are nice.

Apparently the blokes at DH's work all thought it was a good idea. I think this is because he was only asking the blokes who a) work for him and b) won't be there anyway.

They stock the zoot suits not as fancy dress, but as normal clothes for people to wear to Quincearas (which I am mispelling) which is a coming-of-age thing for Chicano/Hispanic/Mexican-American folks.

MrsB, I've briefly googled frock coat, and not found anything current. It looks very English, though, which is a start. I'll look at the site of the rental place and see if they stock it.

Apparently, the event organisers have a deal with this rental place that says "pay x, and you get exactly this outfit" so they really all will be in exactly the same outfit.

I saw heaps of brocade frock coats when we were doing the stuff for our wedding but nowhere seems to have them any more. It is technically daywear though...

The more I think about it the better white tie sounds....

bran · 01/02/2007 09:30

Was he not thrilled that I thought he was manly NQC?

I finally clicked on the thing that was subconsiously bothering my about the zoot suit, it reminds me of Shawaddywaddy. That probably means nothing to you, but your dh probably remembers them, they were a very naff band from the 70s.

QueenofQuinoa · 01/02/2007 10:13

Oh, he didn't realise that my dp saying that is more or less the equivalent of a proposition, from a normal person.

He doesn't give me effusive compliments like that

NotQuiteCockney · 01/02/2007 12:14

Oh, no, he definately picked up on that Frances. He was commenting on how he has a shot a threesome with you both now, so I think he got it.

Bran, I don't know what "Shawaddywaddy" is, but I will try saying it to him. He has some strange musical taste, though, so he might think it's a good thing.

I think DH is put off by compliments from women generally? I'm not sure why MrFrances's comment counted for more than anyone elses, but it did, apparently.

Oh, he went for the usual waiter outfit, but with a red vest. Then he couldn't remember if last year he'd had a cummerbund or a vest. Obviously he's very fashion-aware.

He was very impressed with the tux rental person's service skills, anyway. He phoned up, they pulled up his records from last year, he said he wanted something a little different, they presented him with three options. Ah, American service .

DH points out that it's a red waistcoat, not red vest. Why are so many words different? Gah. (Hey, at least it wasn't red suspenders (aka braces)!)
