One of them there "sort my life out" threads

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 28/07/2016 08:01

I'm looking for one of the threads for general S&B self-improvement threads, a bit like the princess ones there used to be.

For the record I'm planning to cut out alcohol completely for a while. I have a social thing tomorrow where I'll probably have a glass of wine or two but after that will cut out. Also doing as much yoga as I can to tone up a bit (finding inner leave along the way would be lovely too).

Does anyone know if there are any threads like this running atm?

Stevie anything you do is better than sitting on the sofa. I do look at people properly jogging in awe as I'm still so much in the infancy of it all, but hoping that will be me one day too!

Was in full winter gear here today as we were up a mountain on a steam rail - was the right choice too! White vest, light grey Gap jumper, jeggings and biker boots, a big scarf and waterproof coat where necessary to keep the chilly breeze out.

Ememem84 · 10/08/2016 21:11

Balls. I completely fell off the thread.

Am off on holidays tomorrow so probably not the best time to re-join. But. Will make more of an effort.

Whilst on holiday will moisturise daily (full body - have some moisturiser to get rid of) and will keep up skincare routine.

Will drink no more than two glasses of wine/beer a day. (It's not a drinking/partying holiday not are we driving anywhere but I'm not the best at being hungover, I don't sleep well after a drink and it will be hot)

I will drink loads of water.

I will eat relatively healthily. Italian food...so should be ok. Healthy choices though.

We will be walking loads so will be ok for exercise.

Once back in a week I shall gym three times a week. Two gyms and one yoga. Or a gym a spin and a yoga.

I ride every Saturday. Will spend longer with the ponies as they calm me down.

My goals are to be more zen. Less stress. More goodness. Good thoughts. Good vibes.

I will also not shop so much. I am taking some older clothes with me on hols (some are old faves others are new ish but unworn). Have to give them a test run. Will take more care of my appearance.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 11/08/2016 18:59

Evening all! Hope everyone's had a nice day.

It was DD's day at nursery today. so I had ample opportunity to do some exercise... but, what I ended up doing was cleaning the house (it needed it) and pissing about on whatsapp and MN instead Blush. Oh well. Diet could have been a lot better too, so all in all not great today Sad.

I have a visitor arriving tomorrow afternoon for the weekend, so will be trying not to go off the rails!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Smile

Housework is good cardio Wink

Seeing MIL tomorrow so there may be alcohol consumed after... going home on Saturday and looking forward to my own bed, getting into a routine and a healthy food order.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/08/2016 20:55

Walked almost 17km today. Most of it with a friend. She is also interested in a walking holiday - it would be lovely to do something like this together.

I've been eating healthy too, lots of veggies and no dessert at work. I ofter crave food just before bedtime but have limited it to a bowl of 2% Greek yogurt.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 12/08/2016 21:18

Thanks conscious, yes I feel like we could do with (another) healthy grocery order. I also think I need to batch cook some healthy meals so I'm not tempted to snack on bread and rich teas.

Walk sounds great frustrated! It's so nice you have someone who is interested in walking too.

Despite us having a guest this evening, I've had an ok day diet-wise. I was quite sensible till guest arrived and then we just barbecued so I just had meat and salad. I've done very little on the exercise front, except a walk round town with DD. Will try to squeeze in a jog and some yoga tomorrow.

Night all!

Walked 20k or thereabouts today in Italy. A "light trek" my arse was it turned into a bit of a hike. In cinqeterre, walked from levanto to monterosso. Total about 9 k of cliff path. Then walking to and from trains and around la spezia. Rewarded myself with a sea swim. And then a gelato. Smile

Wore shit loads of sun screen. And have remembered whilst here to moisturise. And needed to drink my body weight in water.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/08/2016 07:56

Ememem your holiday sounds dreamy! Enjoy!!!

Stevie well done limiting what you ate at the barbecue - so hard in practice.

I had late night food cravings last night. Someone had left a plate of steamed broccoli in the kitchen so I ate that and nothing else Halo I've lost 2kg and my midsection feels taut - it feels incredibly motivating!

UnconsciousCoupling · 13/08/2016 13:20

Hello Ladies

slight name change due to something I posted elsewhere...

I'm home now and have finished off the holiday with McDs for lunch.

My running trainers have arrived and they fit and my delivery will be coming this afternoon.

I'm also going to book myself a massage for as soon as the children are back in school - I'm feeling so tense!

Well done on all the walking, broccoli snacking etc - I'm doing C25K again in the morning after only managing 1 while we were away though exploring castles was quite good leg work too!

In an attempt to sort out finances out too, I'm also going to limit myself to £30 in cash per week which will invariably include soft play entry or similar to ensure I can't buy lots of hot chocs, pastries etc

My main aims for diet will be water only at home and cous cous or pasta salad or jacket and salad for lunch instead of sandwich and crisps. I know from past SW efforts that this means I don't get so hungry later and reach for the biscuits. Might also try and do egg based breakfast or home made granola with yogurt and fruit.

Mostly, I look forward to my own bed tonight Wink

GreenHen · 13/08/2016 18:29

What a positive thread! It is motivating ready all your updates Smile

Hope I can join in too. I want/need/wish to improve many, many things but I'm going to start by being kinder to myself and not beating myself up with a long list of 'things to improve'. Baby steps...

Kicked off this afternoon by chewing sugar free gum in a bid to stop the mindless eating. I've also banned myself from the relationships & AIBU section and certain you tube channels (been ruminating/trying to make sense of draining behaviour from extended family - it is definitely time to accept and move on now!). Going to set myself the target of doing some kind of beauty improvement this evening which, hopefully, will also curb the G&T habit that has formed.

UnconsciousCoupling · 13/08/2016 20:27

Hi GreenHen

I think that you're probably right about feeding in a lot of negativity but I enjoy reading about how bonkers others can be in AIBU too much to give it up Wink

I think we often look at all the short comings instead of the good things we already do. Must work harder on the positivity - this thread is helpful for that.

Karcheer · 13/08/2016 21:23

Hello, I've had a pretty negative week, my messy house really got on top of me. I've had a good clean up today and did a little bit of decorating, and took my vitamins.

Ememem84 · 13/08/2016 21:56

Half a pizza for lunch and the best tuna steak I've ever had with rocket salad for dinner. Tonnes of water again - 32 degrees here ☀️☀️

Wore my sunscreen and have super moisturised abd remembered multivitamins.

UnconsciousCoupling · 14/08/2016 06:38

Karcheer we're in the midst of moving rooms around which feels like such an endless job but DS has his own room now which he loves and it means I have no spare room for MIL Wink win win

I'm about to have some home made granola, greek yogurt and strawberries and at 8 I am going for my C25K. Then I'm meeting a friend for a much needed bit of socialising which will no doubt involve some unhealthy food, but will do my mental health the world of good - all in the balance.

Have a good day all!

GreenHen · 14/08/2016 09:34

Thank you UnconsciousCoupling! I will admit I found myself on AIBU this morning out of pure habit, and then kicked myself off. Maybe I can allow myself limited access when I am in the habit of actually doing the things I say I want to do...

Is the room rearrangement completely finished now? Great feeling walking into a room when it has just been done and still almost a surprise to see it in the new way!

Nothing like getting stuff done to lift the mood - well done Kercheer for rounding the week off with a positive note and 84 for making those good choices.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 14/08/2016 10:01

Hi green!

Yes I have to take a break from aibu sometimes or at least avoid the threads I find feed into my negativity the most.

I've found this thread really positive so far and hope you will too. I definitely haven't stuck to everything I wanted to, but I'm trying to focus on the positive things I have managed to do and keep doing them.

So yesterday our visitor kindly offered to babysit so DH and I went out for a meal and a couple of drinks (ok three in totally, but one was a very weak g&t). Knowing i'd be indulging a bit in the evening, I just had a smoothie and a really light lunch with lots of veggies during the day. I've been trying to have more matcha green and red bush tea as well instead of my usual builders' brew with a sugar! Today I've had a really nice fruit, veg and coconut smoothie for breakfast and will be having Sunday roast and maybe a small piece of apple crumble later with our guest so probably will have a salad or something for lunch. Really wanted to go swimming today but nobody else is up for it so will probably be a walk to the park. So, it's not been a super healthy weekend but it's been really enjoyable. Good for the soul I think!

Hope everybody has had a lovely weekend too Smile.

Stevie having an occasional treat makes life a lot less grim! Grin
Karcheer sending you some positive vibes - the coming week will be better!

I walked 14k yesterday. The weather was terrible when I started but I wore weatherproof stuff and stayed dry. I took a waterbus to an art miseum on an island, enjoyed the exhibition, and walked back across a series of islands and bridges. Part of my route overlapped with a marathon - seeing the runners felt motivating although the distance I covered was a lot shorter. It felt great but I got a bit cold and my throat feels a bit strange, hoping I am not coming down with something.

I will go on a short trip for work this week. One of the reasons why I am going is that it is out in the countryside and I might be able to do a bit of long-distance walking there. Route planning feels exciting and exhilarating, and a bit daunting too, because the weather is really unpredictable and I'd carry my things in a backpack.

Ememem84 · 15/08/2016 08:38

Walked 10876 steps yesterday. Around florence. It is baking. Then had a swim.

Salads and lots of water on the menu here. And occasional gelato.

GreenHen · 15/08/2016 11:23

Hi, and thank you, Stevie

I did a load of beauty stuff yesterday (unusual for me and definitely inspired by this thread!). Now just to make it a habit as I did enjoy it and feel better for it.

Ordered some clothes - a top from white stuff and some jeggings from phase eight (slightly concerned they will be too small though...) I swapped my usual brand of you tube videos for some style ones.

I've just started the ball rolling with re-starting Pilates again in September.

Just about to go and play badminton with my son Smile

I think it is time I put my baseline assessment down in writing...

Hair & Beauty I dye my grey roots and get my hair cut regularly now (at cheap walk in place) and wear mascara and lipstick most days. I bought some new makeup a couple of months ago and also have nice facial care products but using them regularly isn't in my habit list. I am at a very basic level.

Exercise I have an issue with my back and I had plantar fasciitis for the last 2.5 years (not a great combination!) so I have got into the habit of doing very little. The plantar fasciitis has gone recently though! I go for 1-2 hr walks with a friend every week or so but that is about it. I also have a spa membership at a local hotel (gym, swimming pool, tennis courts and spa stuff) that I rarely use. I have basic exercise equipment at home and plenty of DVDs. I was doing regular Pilates (which helped a lot with the back) but I stopped. ANY exercise is an improvement basically.

Diet and Weight Unsurprisingly I am overweight! I drink far too much alcohol (a 50-60 unit week is not unusual). I eat too much and mindlessly. On a more positive note I am not fussy at all and really enjoy healthy food - a lot of my issues are around organisation with food and bad habits really.

earthyambitions · 15/08/2016 12:41

Not had the healthiest few days but not too awful either. Back on it today though. Got up at 6am for a run, healthy breakfast and planning a pretty healthy lunch and some walking later. Taken more time over my appearance recently though and been really good about taking my make up off at night which was probably my worst habit. Next steps are to try and run a minimum of three but ideally 5 mornings this week and remember to take my multivitamins.

UnconsciousCoupling · 15/08/2016 14:42

Hi All

Green I'm afraid that that one room isn't finished as it will need decorating (smallest bedroom for littlest child) at some point and I need an uninterrupted hour to clear out all the important treasures he insist on keeping...but also moving him in there means we now need wardrobes so we can move our clothes out of the built in wardrobes in DD's room which then means we can sort her storage which then means she can get a desk and a chair for big school.

Then we need to paint the shed and the porch and set the shed up as a little study/den which means sorting electrics etc so it's kicked off a major project! But at least we've made a start.

I've had some healthy food all day long but I'm now going to indulge in a (small) choccy bar as the day has been a long one already. No Costa hot chocolates in sight. In fact, yesterday when I met my friend I had a glass of OJ and a bacon roll which has got to be better than the normal slice of cake/pastry and hot choc.

Will do some pilates tonight when the house goes quiet.

Well done to all the good stuff going on here! Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 15/08/2016 18:24

I walked 12k yesterday. I felt lightheaded when I started out, so had to stop at a supermarket to buy some salted nuts and a smoothie. I walked across a nature reserve, it was magical, slow-moving thunderclouds on the Northern sky, they finally caught up with me just before I took the subway home. Long walks feel amazing, I felt I could have continued all night, my mind was empty and serene, and I slept so well afterwards.

Today I've walked just the required 10000 steps. In fact I felt too hungry to walk home. I am making a batch of granola bars - homemade ones are really tasty and I want to keep some at work so that I can have a quick snack before I head home.

UnconsciousCoupling · 15/08/2016 19:25

Hi Frustrated that sounds like an awesome walk - I can't imagine such distances.

Would you care to share your granola bar recipe? Looking into healthier after school snacks and this sounds ideal. Thanks Flowers

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 15/08/2016 19:34

Hi all!

Ugh I am a tale of woe as I seem to have some sort of bastard summer cold! My poor throat! Feel a bit cheated as I've been so healthy lately, surely I should be fending off all viruses. Anyway, I'm trying very hard not to fall off the wagon into a wheelbarrow of carbs and wine. Sigh.

Anyway, plan for this week is:

  1. reduce carbs
  2. plenty of fruit, veg, vitamins and water
  3. yoga

I am being taken somewhere as a surprise this weekend by DH (it's our anniversary). I'm so excited, but just don't want to be ill for it. In an ideal world I'd also look glowing with health and be half a stone lighter but sadly think that is unlikely Grin.

OP posts:
UnconsciousCoupling · 16/08/2016 09:22

Oh no Stevie hope you are feeling better this morning.

I've started the day with 2 medium eggs and 1 rasher of bacon on 1/2 toasted bagle and I'm already nearly through pint 1 of water.

I don't think I'm eating any less at the moment but I feel like I'm eating better so that has got to be a start. There's a packet of biscuits and a packet of Twix in the cupboard from Saturday which are both at about half - normally that would last me about 2 days.

I've booked myself in for a full body massage in the 1st week back to school - feels far to long to wait, but realistically it's not going to happen in the next 3 weeks.

Need to go out tonight and do my C25K. A bit worried about tackling week 3 on the weekend as it looks tough! Taking it slowly and doing each week twice if that makes sense.

Have a good day all!

PS Stevie, that weekend away sounds fab. DH and I recently had 3 hours child free and it was bliss!
