One of them there "sort my life out" threads

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 28/07/2016 08:01

I'm looking for one of the threads for general S&B self-improvement threads, a bit like the princess ones there used to be.

For the record I'm planning to cut out alcohol completely for a while. I have a social thing tomorrow where I'll probably have a glass of wine or two but after that will cut out. Also doing as much yoga as I can to tone up a bit (finding inner leave along the way would be lovely too).

Does anyone know if there are any threads like this running atm?

Wow well done on weight loss jemima (and surviving camping trip Grin)! I'm rubbish at camping but love the idea of it. Need to woman up a bit and do it one day (maybe when toddler is older).

Yes, I've had my eyebrows done recently too and it seems to make such a difference! I'm growing my hair as it's been shortish for a while and I'm getting a bit bored of it.

I think this week I will try and do no alcohol (though might have one or two at the weekend), no snacks other than fruit and veg, no refined sugar, more water and exercise. I'm going to start body brushing every morning and do some conditioning treatments for my hairs a well. I'm not sure about fasting this week, but might try 6:1 with 16:8. I am trying to find sustainable changes I won't give up on and just think 5:2 isn't totally sustainable for me, though it is really good for weight loss.

Hope everyone has had / is having lovely weekends!

Oh sorry and yes of course, please join us jemima Smile.

QueenLaBeefah · 07/08/2016 10:03

Can I join?

I've been plodding along on my own with my own made up plan for the past 4 months and I've lost a stone and feel healthier.

Given up booze (except now and again)
Given up sugar.
Given up snacking
Reduced portion sizes.

I had quite a good diet already but I just ate far, far too much.

The upside of these changes is I do feel so much healthier and my sleep has improved dramatically so, overall, my mood has improved too.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 10:31

Yes queen please join us! Your plan sounds a lot like what I should be doing. It's great to hear it actually has been of benefit to you. That's a good motivation for me to try and stick to the plan! Smile

OP posts:
QueenLaBeefah · 07/08/2016 10:42

It is great to be able to share this with other people.

I've absolutely had it with "diets" - I've lost count of the amount of times I've lost and put on the same sodding 2 stones. It has been a recurring theme all of my adult life and I'm bored to tears with it.

Now I'm just trying to make better choices, and, very slowly it seems to be working. I refuse to count points, fat content, calculate calories, green and red days, blah, fucking, blah anymore. The diet industry is just total bullshit.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 12:10

Couldn't agree more queen! Well said.

JemimaMuddledUp · 07/08/2016 17:20

Portion sizes is what I'm concentrating on too at the moment. It is so much more satisfying to eat a small portion of "real" food as opposed to a plate full of "diet" food.

For lunch I had a small chicken breast cooked with lemon, garlic and thyme, a few roast baby potatoes, green beans and carrots. The carrots were roasted in olive oil and a little honey and the green beans were dressed with a little chilli and oil. Even with the oil the portion I had was only around 500 calories, and was satisfying enough for me to not want a snack mid afternoon.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 18:56

That sounds yum jemima!

Feeling quite motivated now for the week ahead.

OP posts:
Karcheer · 07/08/2016 20:03

Urgh!
As suspected I've been rubbish at keeping up with the thread and rubbish at sorting myself out!
I've been for afternoon tea today which was lovely but massively calorific! My friend took a lot of pictures and omg I look fat, tired, generally rough!
I really need to loose some weight :(

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 20:24

Don't worry karcheer! Tomorrow is a new day and a new week. It's horrible when just don't feel your best, but I bet you look so much better than you think. I think most people are harder on themselves than anyone else is.

I'm trying to lose some weight too, but as it won't happen overnight (boooo!) and as I am horribly impatient and in need of instant gratification, in the meantime I am trying to add some other things to my plan which have instant / quicker results. For example shaving legs more often Blush, sorting out my hair, nails, eyebrows etc. I've bought some new make up which can just be thrown on really quickly (cc cream, cream blush, clear mascara and eyebrow conditioner). It's good as I don't tend to put make up on everyday as it takes too long, but with the new stuff it really is easy. I even reapply it sometimes, which is something I would never be arsed to do if I had to do a full face of make up. It does make me feel better despite my less than svelt physique! Smile

Hi can I join?

Actually started a thread in Chat last night about food. I know what I need to do - reduce portions, cut the rubbish and up the good stuff. Have also started C25K and do a bit of pilates at home to sort my spine.

Thanks!

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 20:31

Hi conscious! Yes, of course, please join us. Smile

OP posts:
CotswoldStrife · 07/08/2016 20:47

Late addition to the thread here, I have put weight on gradually and need to take it off the same way (menopausal) so for me it's recognising that I can't eat/drink the same way and need to do more cardio exercise to burn blubber.

Always more difficult to exercise in the school holidays constantly interrupted by DD but I will do my best. Even 10 mins of yoga-type stretches really help my back.

ConciousUncoupling · 07/08/2016 21:20

Summer hols are the worst! I'm looking forward to September when I'll have 2 days a week to myself while both children are at school to do some exercise in. Possibly swimming one day and jogging the other.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 07/08/2016 21:27

Yes, I'm finding it hard to fit in exercise for me atm, though it's nothing to do with summer holidays (my DD isn't at school yet). DD does still have a decent nap at lunchtime which is really when I should be making myself do some exercise but I have to admit I've been rather slack of late. New start (again Blush) tomorrow.

Also hi Cotswold!

OP posts:
Karcheer · 07/08/2016 22:03

I struggle with fitting in exercise too probably an excuse id like to get up and go to the gym, but I have to walk the dogs, once I've done that I'm starving so I eat and lose motivation. I also don't know what to wear to walk the dogs, ideally I'd wear my gym stuff, but I like to exercise in shorts and can't walk them in that, so I dress for the day and then well... The gym isn't going to happen...
If someone can work out how I do that, then I'll give them a gold star!

Inarightpickleandchutney · 07/08/2016 22:54

In anticipation of my holiday I have booked to get a spray tan tomorrow! I've also done my own roots today using loreal excellence and it came out pretty good!
Only paid £10 for two boxes which was good.
Downside I've had two wines because I'm so desperate to sleep and I'm wanting to just pass out. Probably not the best idea but needs must...

ConciousUncoupling · 08/08/2016 06:47

Morning all. We're off to the beach today so eating won't be great and I've not done C25K since Friday morning so I think that regardless of what our plans are tomorrow, I need to go to the park and do it while DS plays.

It's really hard to find the motivation when DS is waking at 5:30 [yawn]

Also trying to take better care of myself generally including trying to sort my hooves Grin Got one of those battery operated sander thingies and putting on Scholl foot cream every day.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/08/2016 08:11

Morning all!

Ugh conscious, anything the wrong side of 6am is just toooooo early. DD was up at 6 today and that felt pretty bad.

Karcheer, we always had dogs when I was growing up and they are seruously hard work! Not sure how to fit exercise into your schedule. Maybe lunch time or evening? Difficult though.

inaright I feel much better with a tan! I might start using my gradual tanner stuff again as it does make me feel a lot better.

Must remember to drink lots of water and do some exercise today, and absolutely no booze this evening. I'm using my best headmistress voice on myself here.

OP posts:
Solasum · 08/08/2016 08:36

Is there space for one more?

On a positive note I walk a lot, and don't drink or smoke. I do Pilates class once a week and currently once a week tennis. I have recently kon-Maried by wardrobe and look a bit more groomed than I did, though this is a work in progress. (Any tips for fine, flat hair?)

My problem is a sweet tooth. Most of my office have been away, and to stave off boredom I have been eating a LOT of rubbish. I now have spots Sad. Trying to improve diet away from dairy based staples that everyone will eat and drink more water. Constantly craving chocolate and biscuits though.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/08/2016 08:48

Of course sol! The more, the merrier Smile.

Morning, can I join in too please? I'll be honest, I've joined a few of these types of threads before and never stuck to it but I really think this time is different. My mental health has not been in a great place over the last 8 months and I'm now starting to feel a bit more me so have more motivation to sort myself out. I started at the weekend with a few simple things, taking my make up off at night (Blush), exfoliating, moisturising, painted my toe nails, ran first c25k run last night, switched morning coffee for lemon in hot water, did first day of adriennes yoga boot camp in you tube this morning and had scrambled eggs and spinach on a wholemeal muffin for breakfast. Also remembered my multi vitamin.
Planning to go out and get a few bits today to have a bit of a pampering session and also some healthy options for food this week. Also planning to do another run later this evening.
I'm a teacher so trying to make the most of these holidays and develop some healthy habits that have half a chance of continuing when I get back to work.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/08/2016 09:42

Hi earthy! Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear that your MH hasn't been so good.

Yes, I'm going out shopping in a minute to get some healthy bits (so I don't attack the biscuit tin).

OP posts:
SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 08/08/2016 13:38

I've decided to write my list for the week, in (vague) order of priority:

  1. no alcohol during the week and no more than two drinks at the weekend
  2. exercise
  3. more water
  4. no snacking, except fruit or veg
  5. diet; more whole foods and fewer processed, carby things
  6. sort out hair and beauty routine (body brushing, fake tan, shave legs, paint nails, make up, conditioning treatments)

Solasum · 08/08/2016 13:55

I am going to try and do one 'extra' me-maintenance thing a day.
