Forget about tree rings, use eyebrows

Because, eyebrows can be used to 'date' you.

Obviously not like, 'date' date Grin

I'm currently growing my eyebrows out after a couple of disastrous threading sessions in Superdrug and now have a very nice lady keeping them tidy and offering me advice.

When we were chatting, she mentioned that the only people who wanted really thin/shaped eyebrows were middle aged women who were stuck in a rut, because 'no one' wants their brows like that, these days.

I've been looking at my friends eyebrows (which sounds weird, I know!!) and as we're all about the same age, all of us except me and my friend who's a Beauty Therapist have very, very thin brows.

I guess then, that she's right. It's made me think about all sorts of things I do/use out of habit.

I feel like a work in progress atm. I'm growing out my over highlighted hair and reckon I have about 9/10 m to go on that. My hair is cut into a long bob until they're gone.

My eyebrows haven't been this thick since my teens.

I am trying very hard to avoid ruts, but I know they're out there.

I don't want to look young/younger. I'm in my early 40s and happy with that. But does anyone have any advice on what I can do to avoid getting stuck in a rut and what sort of things I should be keeping an eye on?

sure

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:37

TeenAndTween because I feel better and more put together when I've made an effort with my appearance. I try not to judge others for their choices and don't like to be judged for mine. My face, my choice. Absolutely nothing wrong with a few wrinkles and grey hair for you if that's what you prefer.

BabyGanoush · 05/07/2016 14:38

Hi Teenandtween

Not looking younger, just trying not to look unnecessarily older than we are already!

We are not doing any harm. Leave us be? Smile

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:41

JamtheJam better than Benefit They're Real? I need to try it if so, although have just stocked up on 3 Benefits.

BeardMinge · 05/07/2016 14:45

Thanks Tranformers, good tips re: brushing them, I am working from home today so they're a little scruffier than usual! The other one grew back a little less well, but a bit of brow powder sorts it out usually.

TeenAndTween, I'm 42 and have absolutely no interest in looking younger, I'm very proud to be 42, grey hairs and wrinkles included. However, being 42 doesn't mean giving up on looking good or taking an interest in fashion.

I blame Kate Moss for my love of a delicate eyebrow. That dates me right there.

iMogster · 05/07/2016 14:46

Earlier this year I decided to use eyebrow make up to make them look thicker and more on trend. I was amazed at how much younger and better I looked and have been doing it ever since. It is now part of my daily routine and I don't wear much make up. I like the natural look.

I don't mean the thick 'marker pen' look, just enhancing what's there.

Dancergirl · 05/07/2016 14:48

I've found my people Smile

Another over plucker here, I'm now in my forties and my brows are thinner than I would like. Any tips for encouraging growth?

My beauty therapist who waxes my legs and underarms insists on 'tidying' them up with wax even if I don't want it Angry Should I stay away from wax completely?

TeenAndTween · 05/07/2016 14:55

Thanks. I'm not having a go, honestly, I know I am in the minority.

It's not the wanting to look nice that I don't understand. It is the equating the 'looking good' with 'looking young' that I really don't get.(Along with ruining feet by wearing ridiculously high heels).

I'll wander away again Smile

fattyfattytoadgirl · 05/07/2016 15:03

My eyebrows are still fairly thick.

Thick eyebrows were fashionable when I was a teen. Oh, how I longed for Cindy Crawford's eyebrows in the 80s! I got so fixated on them that I kept them and never plucked.

So my eyebrows (if nothing else) are fashionable, I suppose. That means, of course, that there must have been at least two decades in between when they weren't. Oh well!

MintSource · 05/07/2016 15:13

Loving this thread. Thank you for the good tips!

Any thoughts on Wunderbrow?

I wax my own brows using those cold strips. I just gave up tinting them to use Wunderbrow but I do miss having 'brows' when I am not wearing make-up as I have pale blonde eyebrows.

transformers

Blush I haven't tried that benefit to be fair. But it's the only mascara I repeat buy. Recent other purchases were Clinique lash power which doesn't give enough volume, Kevin Aucoin which was ok but expensive and the tube broke, No 17 in the gold tube which i won't re purchase but can't remember why, and Bobbi Brown eye opening mascara which I reeeeally like. But it isn't a tubing mascara and for day to day I prefer tubing as it is easier to remove so gentler on delicate skin IMO.

Hth.

JanTheJam · 05/07/2016 15:26

Jeeze. Sorry for the lack of grammar, punctuation and meaning. Hope it make sense. Hmm

RubbishMantra · 05/07/2016 15:28

Ooh, don't know about Wunderbrow, but just had a quick google. It would make a perfect present for my mother, who plucked her's into oblivion, and draws them on with a brow pencil, drag-queen style.

I just tidy up the stragglers, and trim the extra long ones.

PovertyPain · 05/07/2016 15:32

When I read threads like thus I'm glad I've always been too much of a slob to regularly pluck my brows. It means on the very rare occasion I get them plucked, they look great. [smug] the rest of me still looks like shit though

MintSource · 05/07/2016 15:36

It claims not to budge for two days but I haven't tested that because it would feel grubby.

I'm thinking of tinting again and then filling/grooming with Wunderbrow. The finish is good once you get the hang of it - quicker and more consistent effect than pencil.

OlennasWimple · 05/07/2016 15:48

I've never had and never could have thick eyebrows. Maybe it's just as well I am middle aged now so they are "right" for my age

CherryPicking · 05/07/2016 15:55

I don't know about middle aged. Anyone who was a teenager in the 90s could have ended up with thin brows, and it seems like we're being cheated out of proper adulthood if we go straight from 'young person' to 'middle aged' without any chance to just be a grown-up.

MarchelineWhatNot · 05/07/2016 16:01

Microblading. My colleague had it done and it looks really good.

Other things to stop you looking middle-aged:

  • Pull your bra straps up to the tightest level. Boobs tend to get lower as you get older. High boobs = youthful boobs.
  • Make your hair sleek. Fluffy hair always ages people. Hair straighteners are good for making hair sleek, whether curly or straight. And don't let it get too dry. I now wash my hair once a week and use a bit of dry shampoo halfway through the week. I used to wash my hair every day.
  • Fill in the corners of your mouth with lip liner then color the whole of the lip before putting on gloss lipstick. It will take years off you.
  • Darker hair. It is a myth that you should go lighter as you get older. I am naturally fair, but my darker hair takes years off me. I read that the better contrast between your features, the younger you look. So, darker hair, no nude lipstick, dark liner (only on top lids) for instance.
HemanOrSheRa · 05/07/2016 16:03

Ooh love your brows transformer. I had mine tattooed a couple of weeks ago. Mine own brows were over plucked, one more so than the other, and wonky Confused. They are lovely now. I'm going for a second session next week, just to have them touched up and then that's it! Perfect eyebrows!

fattyfattytoadgirl · 05/07/2016 16:33

What's microblading?

I am very tired today. Keep thinking about skating around on teeny-tiny rollerblades. I know I need a nap Blush

Patheticfallacy · 05/07/2016 16:41

I've got HD brows and I quite like them

Forget about tree rings, use eyebrows
3perfectweemen · 05/07/2016 16:52

Unicorntrainer · 05/07/2016 17:16

I have been dying to try HD brows! Yours look great patheticfallacy. Do you have to do anything with them? Looking for tips

SweepTheHalls · 05/07/2016 17:27

Ok, I get the message about brows, but what style of jeans and trousers am I supposed to be looking for? (36,and about to reinvest after last baby!)
