Forget about tree rings, use eyebrows

Because, eyebrows can be used to 'date' you.

Obviously not like, 'date' date Grin

I'm currently growing my eyebrows out after a couple of disastrous threading sessions in Superdrug and now have a very nice lady keeping them tidy and offering me advice.

When we were chatting, she mentioned that the only people who wanted really thin/shaped eyebrows were middle aged women who were stuck in a rut, because 'no one' wants their brows like that, these days.

I've been looking at my friends eyebrows (which sounds weird, I know!!) and as we're all about the same age, all of us except me and my friend who's a Beauty Therapist have very, very thin brows.

I guess then, that she's right. It's made me think about all sorts of things I do/use out of habit.

I feel like a work in progress atm. I'm growing out my over highlighted hair and reckon I have about 9/10 m to go on that. My hair is cut into a long bob until they're gone.

My eyebrows haven't been this thick since my teens.

I am trying very hard to avoid ruts, but I know they're out there.

I don't want to look young/younger. I'm in my early 40s and happy with that. But does anyone have any advice on what I can do to avoid getting stuck in a rut and what sort of things I should be keeping an eye on?

Oh I can't get it right Confused too thick? They look dark in picture bit they not as dark it's the lighting

jodens · 05/07/2016 11:33

They do look darker in the second picture and I was going to ask if you'd darkened them as I preferred the colour in the first photo. They're fine 3perfect, both photos. I wouldn't worry.

3perfectweemen · 05/07/2016 11:37

No it's same eyebrow cream dark blonde it's just the lighting. Thanks :)

redhat · 05/07/2016 12:37

I think they already look much better 3perfect but I think you can go even thicker where your eyebrows begin. I'd do it gradually though so that you don't feel like the change is so dramatic. Smile

I too over plucked my eyebrows and agree it was massively ageing. I tried drawing them on but it looked really fake, I have now had them micro bladed. Best thing ever. I also have botox but the microblading has made more of a difference to me in terms of making me look younger.

3perfectweemen - I think your eyebrows look just right now (in that second picture) Smile.

Would you mind if I ask what mascara you are using please? Your eyelashes look great!

minipie · 05/07/2016 14:02

I like the look of the microbladed eyebrows Transformers

How long is it likely to last?

Does it look weird when you're not wearing any make up?

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:09

Thanks minipie they last about 2 years, it's a bit like tattooing but they make each hair stroke so it looks more natural. Hurts like hell though but worth it.

I have found I feel much more confident to wear little/no make up as my face looks 'done' even though I'm bare and they don't stand out particularly, they just look as though I have bushy eyebrows. I honestly love them.

transformers your eyebrows look great.

I currently dye and pencil mine after two years of "growing them out" I get so many comments regarding taking years off me but I'm debating micro blading as a more permanent solution

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:15

Enjoy it while it lasts Bengal one day you'll remember this very fondly.

3perfectweemen · 05/07/2016 14:16

I use mac opulash optimum black Lizzie. Although I do have long lashes anyway . Thanks :)

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:17

WhisperingLoudly go for it, it's so nice to wake up and not have to faff with eyebrow make up. A few of my friends have had it done (can you tell I'm an advocate?!) and everyone loves it.

navygravy · 05/07/2016 14:18

that's an incredible difference Transformers was it expensive?

TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:21

It was £225 navygravy I have seen it cheaper but I wanted this particular person as I had admired her work for a while. My cousin paid £150 and hers look great. I'm in the North West, not sure if it's different elsewhere in the country.

I see it as being the equivalent price of botox but with longer lasting and more impactful results so worth it.

3perfectweemen · 05/07/2016 14:21

Transformers I love your brows. I'd love to get this done but I can't take pain lol

EdithBouvierBeale · 05/07/2016 14:23

I think the key is finding the balance between what suits you, and current trends, but it is so hard. Off-trend and on-trend can both be ageing. I'm 40, and want to look fresh and modern; but not like mutton.

BabyGanoush · 05/07/2016 14:24

Love this thread (an eye brow thread! .... saddest pun of the day! Wink I know, I know)

I have always had thick eyebrows.

Back in the eighties I fancied I looked a bit like Brooke Shields (haha, I wish), well, at least I was a Brunette with thick brows.

I was never fashion forward enough to pluck my brows to thin lines when that became fashionable...

So now, by accident my brows are on trend again....

Bet it won't last long though....Sad

BeardMinge · 05/07/2016 14:26

They look brilliant Transformers.

I overplucked as a teen/twentysomething in the nineties, but luckily they have mostly grown back - albeit slightly unevenly. I use the Maybelline compact a pp mentioned, it's great for filling in. I think mine look ok, anyone care to comment? (I'm not wearing any slap, so excuse my tired eyes).

3perfect, you have amazing eyes, I think you want to be aiming for a more natural shape with your brows really, so growing them a little bushier at the beginning of each brow.

Forget about tree rings, use eyebrows
TransformersRobotsInDaSky · 05/07/2016 14:29

I think they look fantastic BeardMinge, if I could have got mine to grow back to that I wouldn't have bothered with the microblading. You are very lucky. If you wanted a neater look you could comb them upwards and trim them with hairdressing scissors to get a lovely neat look (or get an expert to do them). I am very envious of your natural brows.

LizzieVereker · 05/07/2016 14:30

Thanks 3perfectweemen - I am very envious of your lashes!

BabyGanoush · 05/07/2016 14:32

Beardminge, FWIW you are my eye twin! Shock

I thought: how did someone get that picture of ME....

So, obviously, I think you look fine....Wink

What I do, to make my brows look a bit more "together" is a little bit of light brown brow powder. idea?

Use a lighter colour than your hair colour (I use dark blond, as I don't want HD brows)

TeenAndTween · 05/07/2016 14:32

I've wandered in here by accident.

Transformers Why do you want to look younger?

Everyone on this thread - Why do people want to look younger / put chemicals into their face by botox or whatever? What is wrong with looking your age, having a few wrinkles, having grey hair?

JanTheJam · 05/07/2016 14:33

Mac opulash is the best mascara on the market.

redhat · 05/07/2016 14:35

teenandtween I'm not are this is the thread for you Grin. I would have thought most people would choose to look as good as they can (which for many will involve looking younger)
