Forget about tree rings, use eyebrows

Because, eyebrows can be used to 'date' you.

Obviously not like, 'date' date Grin

I'm currently growing my eyebrows out after a couple of disastrous threading sessions in Superdrug and now have a very nice lady keeping them tidy and offering me advice.

When we were chatting, she mentioned that the only people who wanted really thin/shaped eyebrows were middle aged women who were stuck in a rut, because 'no one' wants their brows like that, these days.

I've been looking at my friends eyebrows (which sounds weird, I know!!) and as we're all about the same age, all of us except me and my friend who's a Beauty Therapist have very, very thin brows.

I guess then, that she's right. It's made me think about all sorts of things I do/use out of habit.

I feel like a work in progress atm. I'm growing out my over highlighted hair and reckon I have about 9/10 m to go on that. My hair is cut into a long bob until they're gone.

My eyebrows haven't been this thick since my teens.

I am trying very hard to avoid ruts, but I know they're out there.

I don't want to look young/younger. I'm in my early 40s and happy with that. But does anyone have any advice on what I can do to avoid getting stuck in a rut and what sort of things I should be keeping an eye on?

Not sure if this is mentioned but you can have your eyebrows tattooed to make them fuller

Go for a natural shade though and not the full on dark brown

2yummymummy2 · 04/07/2016 13:27

3perfect I agree they are too thin but lovely eyes

Mamia15 · 04/07/2016 15:03

I used to see a lot of these awful thick black fake brows but not for a while.

I prefer my eyebrows to look natural - tapering, with a slight arch and not solid black.

3perfectweemen · 04/07/2016 17:10

Thanks I'm going to try. I don't get course hair growth tho they are more like white fluff. Any suggestions how to make them thicken more? Sorry if silly question. I have tried drawing outside m y natural eyebrow but it looks silly and obviously drawn

redhat · 04/07/2016 17:12

I'm growing back one of mine a bit after I realised it was a slightly different shape to the other one. I'm using dark eyeshadow to fill it in rather than pencil.

Any recommendations for brow make-up? DD wants some for her prom. She tried the Benefit range and liked it, but they are trying to sell so many expensive products just to get a defined brow. She is thinking of buying the Maybelline Brow Satin Eye Pencil instead.

maggiethemagpie · 04/07/2016 18:10

I had thin, over plucked eyebrows and I ended up getting semi permanent makeup on them (tattoo). After a disastrous first session with someone less experienced than I realised, I had a wonderful job done by someone else, they now look miles better than before. So I suppose they sort of are fake eyebrows.

I'm not too bothered about trends, in fact if something is too 'trendy' I generally avoid it, but my brows looked all wonky and uneven after years of over plucking.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 04/07/2016 18:14

Same here using eyeshadow redhat. I agree that gently defining my eyebrows has helped me to look better and less drained.

Don't know about the clothes bit though. I wear what I like and what I think will suit me. I think I'd find keeping up with trends (and rejecting what's in my wardrobe because it might betray my age) expensive and exhausting!

Floisme · 04/07/2016 18:23

So do I. But I guess I quite enjoy keeping up with trends too

Polkadot1974 · 04/07/2016 18:44

Thin gold chain with a coffee bean then?! I'm thinking I need a thin bracelet with small bead like my glamorous colleague has and maybe a thin long chain with leaf/similar might be ok- correct or way off? I wear the same few shoes all the time. Need new ones and keep getting tantalising Clark ads coming across the page. Is Clarks bad too? Probably

hollyisalovelyname · 04/07/2016 20:33

3Perfect I think your eye brows are just perfect. They enhance your beautiful eyes rather than overwhelming them.

Polkadot1974 · 04/07/2016 21:03

I like the eyebrows too

BeenThereTooSEL · 04/07/2016 21:19

Foundation is deffo a give away. Depending on your skin it could be time to stop using powered products and use cremes and balms. Lip colour can also be a give away. As we get older our lips start to thin so maybe look at lip contouring (no where near as difficult as it sounds!)

Archedbrowse · 04/07/2016 21:20

Nickname Soap & Glory do a good double ended brow pencil which is very benefit-esque. It doesn't tend to be in many of the branches but can be ordered from Boots.com click & collect.

Polkadot really like the sound of coffee bean bracelet

BeenThereTooSEL · 04/07/2016 21:20

Comfy and sensible shoes are in Polkadot Think Birkenstocks and vagabonds

itstheyearzero · 04/07/2016 21:43

I watched a video last night in which a woman was doing an eyebrow demo. I couldn't believe just how many products and brushes she used on her brows. I think there were 4 or 5 products and 3 or4 brushes. She said this was her daily routine! Now I'm absolutely not criticising or slagging her off, she looked fabulous at the end, but I was watching it in wonder and thinking to myself that my whole getting ready routine on an average morning takes less time and products than just her daily eyebrow routine.

3perfectweemen · 04/07/2016 22:03

Thank you hollyisalovelyname :)

NelAntarctic · 04/07/2016 22:51

My eyebrows haven't been tampered with all that much, they just never grow. Last time I plucked them was last year. They're not line-thin but I need to use a pencil to shape the ends.

I've been wondering about these new 'brow filler' products. Am I too old at 44 to be filling mine in? I don't mean big thick rugs, more subtle would work for me, but am I too old?

CointreauVersial · 04/07/2016 23:16

I'm 49, but never got the memo regarding eyebrows, so mine stayed unplucked for years.

I've only recently started doing anything with them - there's a great little Maybelline palette with a wax and a powder and a little wedge-shaped brush which has worked miracles.

As far as other things are concerned, I've recently grown my hair long. It feels odd to be doing it at a relatively "late" age, but from what I have read, I should avoid The Bob Of Doom at all costs if I don't want to pile on the years.

jodens · 04/07/2016 23:29

Oh yes to avoiding the Bob of Doom. Grin Far more ageing than anything else mentioned.

NelAntarctic · 04/07/2016 23:37

Oh shit. I was thinking of getting a bob Blush

Why are they called a bob of doom??

NelAntarctic · 04/07/2016 23:38

This isn't doomy, is it?!

Sorry to derail OP

BeenThereTooSEL · 05/07/2016 00:30

I find Brow powders are pretty harsh so I use brow pomade. Like brow wax just not as heavy. Also pencils can give that drawn on look but brow mascara is great for just defining them

3perfectweemen · 05/07/2016 09:57

I thickened up my eyebrows today are they still too thin? I'm afraid looking silly

Mamia15 · 05/07/2016 10:39

Definitely not too thin.
