My office is all women, but I work with a lot of men and the Alpha Male thing is rife, and they aren't always that young..... I have sat in meetings where the posturing has to be seen to be believed....

Equally we have at least one senior woman who will take out every woman in a 50 mile radius......

motherinferior · 29/06/2016 13:31

I am Very Cold. And tired. And fed up. I suspect I have this in common with about 48 per cent of the population.

Rosebag · 29/06/2016 15:11

I am also cold but having had a pedi just now I am doomed to spending the rest of the day in flip-flops.... brrrrrr

DS1 arrived on schedule and an enjoyable reunion was had by all. He's gone off to his flat now, having picked up his car (DS2 is Envy) and keys. We have him for 2 weeks...

DD has had her hair done in prep for prom...I just wish it would bloody stop raining..with her long dress, hairdo and all. DSis and DNeph arrived from the US yesterday and are staying with DM. They have persuaded DS2 to go on a city break to Madrid with them next week. I have 2 problems about that....firstly adding this, and the cost of it, in to all the other trips DS2 is doing this summer already.......
( Disney and Switzerland with us, Amsterdam and Berlin with friends, and Helsinki with a friend after Results.) My other problem (and perhaps wise Crepeys can offer advice) is a growing emotional problem I have with family members (DM and DSis's in particular) going direct to DS2 with "arrangements" without involving me and DH in the loop at all. Until it comes to payment, of course. Ho yes...then we're contacted and chased relentlessly. AIBU to feel the family at least as a courtesy, should involve us in the discussions, or even talk to us before DS? I know he's 18 but....
Hmm Angry

Rosebag · 29/06/2016 15:13

Thanks hatty I think I look...wide and blousey....

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2016 16:07

Rose, yes the person(s) paying should definitely have a say at the outset. Maybe they think you can afford it so it would not be a problem, but they should definitely have asked you. Presuming DS2 hasn't/doesn't earn the money himself. But even then...
Lovely your DS1 is back.

We have an Alpha Female boss, but Alpha in all the best possible senses of the word - she would cut any posturer right down in a flashSmile

I am sifting through possible hotels/Air bnb for our hols. DH usually does this, but is obviously too busy now he has his Important Job. I don't think he postures or shouts anyone down, but he is definitely an Alpha male. Actually, kind of a male version of my boss, maybe!
Only the boot is on the other foot at home, of courseWink

motherinferior · 29/06/2016 16:46

DP isn't an Alpha. He's a Grumpy Beta Grin.

Assuming you're paying, Rose, definitely talk to you first. And there's clearly a problem with how they just take you for granted in any case.

I have had my eyebrows done (I'm so S&B) and must write yet more words. I have done quite a lot of work this week.

Lalsy · 29/06/2016 16:52

Rose, I think the pic is lovely!

And the person paying has the say, in our house. But it is up to the dc, as they approach and turn 18, to sort out money (even if that means asking us nicely to help, as long as they also making an effort Grin). I would definitely not be happy with anyone assuming we would pay.

Very cold, going to put thick socks on and roast a chicken.

motherinferior · 29/06/2016 17:01

Roast chicken sounds nice. I have veggie friend coming to supper so we're having puy lentil pie (with mash on top made by Mr Inferior for something else). This is actually a lot more delicious than it may sound. With a garlicky salad. And fizz for the drinkers.

Lalsy · 29/06/2016 17:15

I have a bit of a puy lentil obsession. Am still, erm, processing salad I made the other day with them, butternut squash, roast beetroot, feta, mint. No one else liked it much had I had made shedloads......

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2016 17:43

Lalsy, I'll come round and finish it - it sounds delish - I love all those ingredients!
We are having a chicken and lentil (but the orange kind) curry tonight.

Puy lentil pie sounds very Cranks, MIWinkGrin And delish too.

It is freeeeeeezing here. Nearly JulyConfused

motherinferior · 29/06/2016 17:49

Pie in the sense of cottage pie. Not heavy wholemeal pastry. To recall pie conversations of yore.

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2016 18:30

Homity Pie. Was that made with lentils?Grin

CointreauVersial · 29/06/2016 18:43

I've just changed into a jumper and flicked the central heating on.

Cremolafoam · 29/06/2016 18:54

Mmmn Cranks cheese and cress cheesey rolls.

Also love a Puy lentil and often make that very thing MI.Smile

Tis freezing. Also thrown on the CH in a fury

Another fucking meeting today where I was talked over and ignored. Ten years ago I was known as "The Rottweiler". Now I am invisible. I was in a meeting today with 12 men. The only other woman present was taking the note. I have session with boss/that colleague tomorrow and I know he is going to say something about my "being quiet in meetings". The mood I am in now, I am going to rip him another arsehole. The thing is, he won't have noticed any of it and will be in full denial mode. I would also like to be cut a bit of slack for all the other shit going on in my life - just because I am outwardly cheerful doesn't mean I am just shrugging my shoulders and thinking "Oh lovely, sight deteriorating in one eye, lalala, oh well, at least I can see through the other one" and "Oh another dodgy mole, well that's nothing to worry about at all, nor is the dodgy mammogram." I'm not fucking Pollyanna.

Blackduck · 29/06/2016 21:32

MrsS :(. I have no advice. I sometimes hate men (present company accepted). I mean just look at our political parties and Farage at the EU FfS

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 29/06/2016 21:51

June, really? Fires on!

Mrs S, it's really shit when that happens. You can't be firing on all cylinders at all times and it's exhausting being Mrs Vocal all the time.

I had a crown today and walked 6 miles, being dragged around by stupid dog.... I've twisted my ankle and it's really sore.

Rosebag · 29/06/2016 22:30

Central heating on here too Blush

Flowers Wine Chocolate MrsS Little bit of ball rearrangement might be in order, methinks...

Blackduck · 29/06/2016 22:36

Can I just say we are ALL AMAZING every single one of us. And sometimes walking out is the only response.

And Rose I love that photo

MrsS you are a star and they are twats

It's weird at the moment, so chin up crepeys, ever onwards, but here's the bolt hole and I, for one, are grateful for it.

MontserratCaballe · 29/06/2016 22:57

MrsS, you really are marvellous - make sure you put that little shit in his place. Sorry things in the background ain't so great Flowers.

Rose, I wondered which photo you were on about, as I thought the one on FB was rather magnificent. I know we don't see ourselves as others see us but you are so very hard on yourself and I thought you looked gorgeous. You must be so glad to have DS1 home safe and sound.

Bad luck on the crown, Beachy. Crem, how is your tooth today?

I loved Cranks, esp those rolls! My mum had the book and we used to make them, living out in the sticks as we did, far from the wholemeal worthiness of Cranks. I think the Covent Garden one is a Prezzo or similar now. I might walk past tomorrow and investigate.

It's been a trying few days here, with a very sick DS who is now on a 10 day course of antibiotics for tonsillitis. Today is the first day since Saturday that his temperature has been under 101. I have slept with him every night too, so am sore from the small bed / kicking and knackered from all the sweaty waking. I am hoping we will all sleep tonight. I am alone in the big King size, DH is out on the razz, DD1 is in Dorset on her school trip and the others are sound asleep alone. Time for zzzzzz. Goodnight, sweet Crepes.

Cremolafoam · 29/06/2016 23:52

Oh Monty , poor child! Hope you have a good sleepSadSadFlowers

Oddly heartened by tonight's CLP meeting. Nothing was achieved but the quality of debate was high & reminded me how many clever, resourceful and devoted people make up the party. A motion calling on JC to stand down was not carried (on an exact 50:50 vote) and another expressing unqualified support was defeated. So probably a fair reflection of what's going on overall. It was helpful and consoling to be part of a respectful debate, where people could passionately disagree without devaluing each other.

Auriga · 30/06/2016 00:04

And Montserrat, get well soon to your DS. And MrsS, keep your chins up (as my cousin often says).
