dry good luck with run. I'm an occasional runner. Loathe it but have piled on the weight recently over the past two years and it is the only thing between me and being the size of a house.

marsha good luck with interview and amber hope you receive good news re yours soon.

mara sounds horrid. My approach is to say loudly "have I done something to upset you" it works only if a) there is an audience b) she is likely to be shamed and c) you can deliver the statement as if you couldn't give a fuck one way or the other. Alternatively gush "I'm so glad we're being honest I've been meaning to tell you your tache needs waxing" Either way it's likely game over for your friendship cos who needs idiots like that in their life?

peachlife · 14/07/2016 11:55

marades - cheeky b1tch!. I would very obviously look down my ski jump little piggy nose at her - or anyone who would lower themselves to that level and laugh at them.

I may also quietly fume and plan a cold retort should she ever step out of line again. Something such like "Are you aware of how rudely you have just presented yourself to be?." Delivered in a light tone while looking as though she is something the cat had brought in.

I would certainly choose never to have anything to do with someone who was so pathetically spiteful. Cut her out I say. Horrible child.

Amber I don't believe you Grin and blair I love that cream dress - that is really gorgeous.

peachlife · 14/07/2016 11:57

Changed mind marades - what flamingo said - "I'm glad we are being so honest etc...." Paha!. Hilarious!.

libertydoddle · 14/07/2016 12:35

Bloody hell Mara what a bitch! For the record as it's only just a week since I saw you your eyebrows are lovely and when we met I was thinking to myself how lovely your skin is and that you looked so much younger than me!!

I'd be taken aback at someone saying that as it's just so rude you just don't expect it in normal adult company. A perfect moment for the MN classic 'did you mean to be so rude?'. Failing that you'd be well within your rights to tell her to fuck off!

AmberNectarine · 14/07/2016 12:49

mara: 'oh, bless. You evidently don't keep up with beauty trends - did you not hear a full brow is considered much more stylish these days? Overplucked arches are so ageing'.

blair - my friend works at vogue and told me they have monthly sales where everything gets sold off for £1-£5. Can you imagine?!

OMFG Mara how rude. I'm not a controversial person so would act very coolly and aloof towards giving monosyllabic answers to anything she says. We all think you look great and polished. xx

Amber we all know you're lying Grin you were looking achingly cool in your Rockstuds the very first time I met you.

I think I can make 3rd Sept.

OOtd sand Boden bistro crop trousers, I do own other styles of trousers honestly and khaki linen Jigsaw v neck sleeveless knit with leopard print heels.

Not a political point but I've noticed that Theresa May has a few pairs of leopard print shoes. Maybe she's a lurker!

KittyHello · 14/07/2016 13:52

Oops didn't mean controversial mean confrontational.

Everyonelovessparkles · 14/07/2016 14:08

mara that lady sounds very rude. Great advice from everyone so far and i also thought it sounded like a perfect opportunity for the MN classic line! I'm not very confrontational either. I would probably quietly seethe and then think up lots of perfect come backs after the occasion and just try and avoid her in the future. If you do need to see her maybe just remain aloof in her presence and try not to react. I know that easier said than done, especially when someone makes hurtful comments

amber wow those vogue sales
sound good. Though expect everything is size 6 so would be no good for me any way.

kitty outfit sounds good and perfect for the weather

maradesbois · 14/07/2016 15:01

Thanks for suggestions Voguettes, Grin at pics Amber. I need to see this person again in a couple of days but will be better prepared with subtle but 'I know what you're trying to do so fuck right off' comebacks, bring it on! Seriously though, why do some people feel the need to try and put others down to mask their own insecurities?

Off to the beach this afternoon, over swimming costume am wearing nude pleated maxi skirt from Zara years ago with white vest, cream lace valentino-esque espadrilles from asos and hipanema bracelet from last summer. Think it was lib who spotted them in tk maxx?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 14/07/2016 15:17

Mara I think you should be cool but normal, don't let her see she got to you or she'll be pleased! And probably just me but I'd wear my nicest items to feel all special.

AmberNectarine · 14/07/2016 15:54

Because some people are just twats.

PMSL at achingly cool. Have I mentioned I'm making DH accompany me to a Billy Joel concert?!

Everyonelovessparkles · 14/07/2016 16:50

mara beach outfit sounds that perfect mix of stylish but practical. I bet you look lovely.

shopafrolic · 14/07/2016 18:25

Mara Tim and I were only discussing how fabulous you are yesterday while he did my hair. Sounds like a hideous woman. and jealous

OP posts:
Dreamqueen · 14/07/2016 20:29

Mara she sounds really horrible & nasty. Your beach outfit sounds very stylish and she can only be jealous of you.

Amber I saw Billy Joel years ago, it was a great concert.

I've spent most of the day recovering on the sofa,i'm not going to touch a drop of alcohol for me for a few days. I felt quite rough all day.

justasecond · 14/07/2016 20:57

Mara she sounds like a nasty jealous cow. You are a gorgeous stylish woman and she prob feels threatened by you. Totally agree with Amber re the thin eyebrows. I have spent the last 10 years trying to thicken mine!

Afraid I won't be able to make the MU on the 3rd as we are going to a wedding that day. Hopefully the one after though.

Went to my exercise class last night after a months break, it was complete torture. I don't think I'll be able to move by tomorrow.

Thinking ahead to a/w Shock I am thinking about getting an apc half moon bag, I would love it if they did it in red. If not does it look boring in black? www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/demi-lune-leather-shoulder-bag-628542.html its not the most exciting looking bag but I really like the minimalism of it.

HappyGirlNow · 14/07/2016 21:31

I've seen Billy Joel too Amber" and would see him again in a shot - love him Grin

AmberNectarine · 14/07/2016 22:19

Oh, I've seen him before. I went to New York to see him at Madison Square Garden when I was 18. Huge, huge fan.

I'm also going to see The 1975, which hopefully earns me back some cool points?

AmberNectarine · 14/07/2016 22:23

When God was making me, I think he pressed the Groucho Marx button by mistake. No shortage of facial hair here. DH and I are both hirsute and DS already has a hairy back at age 6, poor lad - he's no chance!

Managed to nab one of the Boden ruched skirts in the sale. Absolute perfection - will wear loads!

Dreamqueen · 15/07/2016 10:03

First wearing of my bargain Stans. They're a bit squeaky. Might annoy me.

MN Vogue - vol 71
Dreamqueen · 15/07/2016 10:12

Bugger! Not wearing my glasses, I've just squirted loads of hair oil down the front of my dress instead of the all of my hand. Will it wash out? I've sprayed vanish on it. Angry

KittyHello · 15/07/2016 10:13

Dream Shop had squeaky Stans, she got a replacement.

Amber which colour skirt did you get? I have it in black, it's a very easy skirt to wear.
