How much water do you really drink per day ?

Am trying to compare and work out why I looked significantly better three years ago, aging aside the only thing I can think I did different is less water ... Could that really be it ?

I try and drink 1-2 litres per day, and also have a coffee and a few teas. I definitely notice a difference in my skin if I drink less.

AdoraKiora · 12/05/2016 17:23

2 litre bottle throughout the day at work

  • a couple of glasses in the evening at home, with dinner etc
  • a pint glass of water I take up to bed with me at night

Also have 2 cups of coffee, 2 cups of tea, sometimes a glass of juice or coconut water, often a few glasses of wine Grin

I'm a thirsty person.

knowler · 12/05/2016 17:43

Today I've had one coffee, one tea, one diet coke, one glass of tap water and 2 litres of sparkling water while sat at my desk. Quite a lot :)

scaevola · 12/05/2016 17:53

I'm really boring and just drink when I'm thirsty.

Also I wouldn't know how to begin tallying the water content in food if I was trying to reach a particular level of water ingestion.

And the body doesn't actually care how it remains hydrated (water, other drinks, food) just as long as it it.

I recommend "Bad Science" on the myths around this.

maximum 6 oz of water as a daily avg. All sorts of other drinks instead (I wee for my country).

Where I grew up, although the water is very safe, it tastes foul. I never got over that.

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/05/2016 18:20

On average 2L

Clarissa69 · 12/05/2016 18:21

Three pints. I have dodgy bladder if I don't. Tmi?? 😜

dailymailcunts · 12/05/2016 22:04

About three litres plus one tea and/or milky coffee per day

The only other thing I drink is alcohol

moosemama · 13/05/2016 15:47

I think current guidance is 2L a day for women, in addition to water containing foods (ie fruit and vegetables).

I regularly drink 4-5 litres in 24hrs, including 2-3 cups of decaff coffee a day, but that's due to specific medical advice for a health condition and I also have to massively salt load, as my body doesn't retain sodium. I have to have a pint of water before I can get out of bed in the morning and that's on top of the pint I drink throughout the night.

Fortunately I also seem to have an unusually large bladder capacity! Grin Blush

If you're drinking lots you have to be careful to space the drinks out across the day and not guzzle multiple pints/litres down in close succession.

I am told I have good skin for may age, which might be attributable to the water, but as my Mum also has very good skin, it could also be down to lucky genetics.

roarfeckingroar · 13/05/2016 15:50

About 4-5 litres per day but I exercise and walk a lot

bigbuttons · 13/05/2016 17:35

I don't drink any on its own[ blush] I hate the taste of it. I know I must drink more.

ShelaghTurner · 13/05/2016 17:39

I've just given up Diet Coke for about the fourth time as I was drinking 4-5 cans a day and now I'm drinking litres of weak squash instead. I hate plain water so have to add a dribble of something to it.

LisaMumsnet · 13/05/2016 17:44

I usually drink about 2 to 3 litres a day as I carry a little bottle of water with me wherever I go. However, due to a sudden bereavement I didn't drink or eat much for about three days and when I looked in the mirror I was shocked to see how lined I was. Those wrinkles went away when I returned to drinking water so it wasn't just the shock. You need liquid blood to carry oxygen and nutrients to all the cells in your body so it really does make sense to drink loads of water.

Wagglebees · 13/05/2016 18:32

5-6 litres but I have a mystery illness that's making me ridiculously thirsty. Back in more normal times I drank 2-3 litres.

hollieberrie · 13/05/2016 19:39

i drink loads. i am always thirsty and feel ill if i dont drink enough water.
i do sometimes worry that this might be an early indication of diabetes but i never get round to investigating Confused

moosemama · 13/05/2016 19:49

Wagglebees, assuming they've eliminated the possibility of diabetes, have you had your urinary or blood sodium levels checked. If you're drinking excessively and not retaining water it could be a sign of low sodium retention.

IsItGinTimeYet · 13/05/2016 20:20

2-3L of actual water plus around three teas and a coffee. 5-8 portions of fruit and veg a day add to it as well.

limitedperiodonly · 13/05/2016 22:17

One of the few things I hate about my office is the competitive water consumption.

We have a chilled water dispenser. Every morning there is a queue of women who fret about their kidneys or their wrinkles slowly filling a litre or even 2L bottle that they then take back to their desks and sip from obsessively. Normal people can't get a glass of water for about an hour. Someone could crawl in dying of thirst and they'd be told to get in line.

They discuss it endlessly. They probably take colour charts into the loo to test the shade of their wee because they also discuss that.

Get a glass of water. When you've finished it, get another one. Repeat as necessary.

leadrightfoot · 13/05/2016 22:19

4 pints water from wake up to sleep plus 6-8 mugs herbal tea plus litre if I go to the gym

FunnysInLaJardin · 13/05/2016 22:24

I get very thirsty and drink about 2.5L of water a day. Plus 2 cups of coffee and some wine. I have good skin and few wrinkles at 45, so maybe its the water...!

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 13/05/2016 22:47

Im 4 weeks into a new job. At my previous job I was always drinking water. I think it was the type of aircon system or something making me thirsty. Anyway my new job I noticed I wasnt as thirsty and therefore didnt drink as much. I got a spot breakout. It might not have been the water, but Ive started to make a point of drinking much more this week.

At home not much at all, but at work I have 4-5 big glasses a day (3 quarters of a pint - I measured it as I was curious)

ABCAlwaysBeCunting · 13/05/2016 22:53

Usually 4l. My office is very dry and it helps to have some water handy. I have a 2l bottle which I refill at lunchtime. I have a cup of tea and maybe a double espresso first thing but then I drink water for the rest of the day because I just prefer it to hot or fizzy drinks.

GreenPetal94 · 13/05/2016 23:09

not much

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 13/05/2016 23:09

I get very thirsty and drink around 2.5 litres of water per day and several herbal teas.

MamaBear98 · 13/05/2016 23:49

As I get thirsty a lot and water is the only drink I ever have, I don't like any other drinks I probably drink way more water than I need to Smile which leaves me needing to go to the toilet quite a lot Blush thankfully I've always had okay skin Smile
