Hi everyone, lots to catch up on.
Sorry to hear about your df shop hope he is ok.
one poor you, your elbow sounds painful!
Hi poly lots of great bag suggestions already, love the Coach ones esp.
Lovely espadrilles blair
Hi cran nice to see you back, love that shirt.
Does someone here have an apc trench coat, maybe lib I like this one
barbara trench ££ though. The sleeves look a little wide maybe? Does anyone know if they ever go in the sale or if there is any discount code for matches about?
Other than that feeling very uninspired fashion wise at the moment, bored of everything in my wardrobe even though I have too many clothes. Maybe I am going through Lara's 3 year change?

FedupNagging · 23/05/2016 19:07

Very pretty summery espadrilles Blair

I'd be interested to see how you fare with the Sally Hansen Topaz - do you have to purchase a separate top coat that goes with the polish?

I think nail varnishes are like mascaras - some are better than others but quality is not necessarily dependant on price. My favourite for long lasting wear is Essie and Mavala with a good base and top coat.

One sorry about your elbow - hope it heals soon. When do you move?

Topazandpearl · 23/05/2016 20:52

Sorry to hear about your elbow One. I hope it heals quickly.

Thanks for that link Amber, now I want a new lipstick Grin.

Yes, fedup, you need to use the miracle gel topcoat. The nails are still looking good - they'll need to last until the weekend for me to be properly impressed (real gels used to last up to 2 weeks).

Question: I have never used a base coat. Any preferred brands?

libertydoddle · 23/05/2016 21:32

I use Sally Hansen base coat topaz.

one, you poor thing. That sounds so painful. Hope it heals quickly.

Blair I am so tempted by those espadrilles.

Thank goodness Monday is over. I always used to be very productive on Mondays but recently I am really struggling with them. It's like the weekend just isn't long enough and I'm still recovering from the previous week on Mondays.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 23/05/2016 21:39

slogging my way through more vac bags......it's actually a little bit obscene how many clothes i've got, it's definitely given me a wake up call and i am not buying anything for a while apart froom underwear, tights, pjs ans accessories. after that, it'll be a strict minimum of one in one out or one in two out depending on what it is. I genuinely think i could put together a different outfit every day for a year and not need to do any washing with what i've got currently Blush Blush it's actually much more extensive than i thought even last week Blush

QueenC · 24/05/2016 06:26

Morning all. just been trying to catch up on everything....
one your poor elbows.
blair lovely espadrilles
poly im late to the party but sounds like you've had some great bag advice. Not sure I have anything to add.

Nails wise, I hate gels/shellac. They don't last on me and peel off. I prefer vinulyx although I when I apply it it only lasts 2/3 days yet with a salon it lasts me at least 8. I like nails inc top coat.

VivaVegas · 24/05/2016 10:00

Sounds nasty One, sounds like you have a huge amount of clothes!
So, could do with some help please! Out on Saturday night for drinks/dinner with some ladies that I have only recently become friends with through school and have never been out socially with them so don't know how 'dressy' they are when they go out. What to wear?!
Am also carrying half a stone too much weight so not loving a lot of my things, the peril of still eating like I'm running lots when I'm not!
I'm happy to buy myself something new but it needs to be something that will get worn on other occasions.
Do I go with skinnies, slouchy top and buy a new pair of heels, or do I buy something different, have seen both a culottes jumpsuit I like and a jersey slouchy dress. Working all week so have to order online and in reality that means today - help!

VivaVegas · 24/05/2016 10:04

Re nail polish, I love a shellac/gelish on fingers and toes before a Summer holiday but don't like the pain of getting it off properly and not ruining my nails.
I recently bought Rimmel Super Gel Nails and topcoat which stays on me for a good few days so have started putting that on if I'm going out.

AmberNectarine · 24/05/2016 10:09

Shellac is amazing for me - I only remove it when I have a few mm of regrowth after 3w. It NEVER chips. I remove it myself (cotton wool soaked in acetone on the nail, wrapped in foil, comes right off after 20m). However, I am having a break at the moment as my nails are a little dry after 4m of constantly having it on. Just wearing nail glow today and it looks quite nice.

QueenC · 24/05/2016 10:12

vegas personally I would wear jeans but that's because I'd hate to be overdressed and turn up in a dress if others weren't. But I guess it also depends on where you are going for dinner/drinks...

QueenC · 24/05/2016 10:31

vogue 100....Cheryl looks awful. Love Kate's dress obviously

VivaVegas · 24/05/2016 10:41

That's the direction I'm heading in Queen for the same reasons but most of my jeans are a bit tight and I don't like any of my tops (probably for the same reason)! I also spend too much time in jeans.
Have gone back on MFP as of yesterday and determined to cut out the crap to shift the extra lbs but as I'm short half a stone makes a big difference to how I feel.
Could do with a few hours off for a mooch around the shops although in reality I'd end up panic buying or come back cross with nothing even if I could go!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 24/05/2016 11:05

ive never had gel or shellac nails, i have very weak, brittle nails that snap when i just look at them so i worry that gel or shellac will make them weaker. i just use any polish i like the colour of and nails inc caviar topcoat and get at least five or six days out of my polish, the caviar top coat is the best ive found for me, ive used plenty of others but dont get as good a result with them

thanks everyone for the elbow sympathy, it is very sore, im at the doctors later this week and will get it checked to make sure it isnt infected again, unfortunately the skin on that arm is very delicate so splits quite easily especially on my elbow as i lean on it, really need to get my desktop arm rests out to take the pressure off!

LinusLovesBretons · 24/05/2016 11:42

Morning!

I had ordered this skirt but DHL have come to pick it up already as it really didn't suit me.

It made my hips looks really wide and it was too sheer as well, even with nude underwear.

I hope your elbow heals soon one, it sounds very painful.

viva I think jeans are a good bet or otherwise a casual dress you can accessorise with nice shoes etc.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 24/05/2016 13:01

One hope your elbow feels better soon. Hope you are enjoying the wardrobe culling process!

Viva normally I would say jeans and top but I agree with Linus you could wear a dress quite casually, especially if the weather is hot.

Blair those espadrills look lovely. I also liked the print on the RI skirt, shame it was bad quality. I agree the High Street isn't too good atm - too much reliance on mmf.

Shame that skirt didn't work for you Linus - it looks nice for summer.

I've bought a few things - with varying degrees of success:

Had high hopes for this midi dress but it made me look Amish.

Another fail with this Finery skirt - v unflattering!

I am thinking of keeping this pinafore dress - do you think it is wearable in winter with opaques and boots though (knee length dresses always need to meet this criteria for me).

And finally these loafers which I think I linked for Justa. I am undecided at the moment, just not sure if I will wear them enough.

Poly hello and hope you stick around. I am not really a bag expert but it sounds like you've had some good advice here - hope you find something you like and come back to update us

BerniceBobsHerHair · 24/05/2016 13:02

Shop I meant to add sorry to hear about your DF.

I am not sure yet of dates for this summer but will let you know once I do know!

libertydoddle · 24/05/2016 13:34

Bernice that pinafore dress looks like it would work with tights and boots for winter.

Stokey · 24/05/2016 13:34

Viva I'd go against the grain & go for culottes jumpsuit or slouchy dress.

Skinnies & a top is a little safe. Then again as a SAHM I have to make the most of going out so try to distinguish what I wear from everyday Mum uniform.

I was out with a group of school mums on Friday night & three were in culottes or cropped flares, they looked really good.

LinusLovesBretons · 24/05/2016 13:37

I love that pinafore dress bernice and yes, definitely wear it in winter with opaques and maybe a turtleneck.

It is so hard finding a casual summer skirt that is not too dressy but not too beachy either.

Forgot to say that those espadrilles are so you blair!

Stokey · 24/05/2016 13:39

Pity about the Finery skirt Bernice, I really want to wear their stuff but not sure who it suits. They have a few nice looking jumpsuits on site.

You could definitely wear the MiH pinafore with opaques & boots. I have a denim one from TopShop that is a bit shorter that I've been wearing all winter.

FedupNagging · 24/05/2016 16:30

Viva I agree with Stokey - go for the culottes jumpsuit or slouchy dress - both will be easy to glam up or dress down.

Bernice the pinafore dress will definitely work in the winter with boots. Shame about the others that didn't suit. Great colour loafers too.

I use this Orly topcoat - as recommended on a MN thread and it's the best I've tried so far. Seche Vite for topcoat but only buy tiny bottles as it doesn't last long without going gloopy.

No fashion news really - wearing v old navy floral wide legged trousers, (Autograph) Zara cream s/s t and navy sandals from Jones.

Am out with a friend tonight - nothing special so may keep this outfit on and add more makeup and jewellery.

OP posts:
QueenC · 24/05/2016 16:41

I hated seche vite. And I'm jealous at one getting 6 days with nails inc top coat. Whatever I use I never seem to get more than 3 days.

bernice love that pinafore-would love to wear something like that but would look silly. I think it would work with boots/tights.

stokey funny you should mention cropped flares as I just came on here to ask if anyone wears them? I haven't yet got round to having mine taken up but I've been wearing them pinned up (around the house only obviously!) and I'm not convinced by them. What shoes were people wearing with them stokey?

AmberNectarine · 24/05/2016 17:09

I literally don't get more than half an hour out of a home manicure. They always chip!

VivaVegas · 24/05/2016 18:31

Thanks for your advice, I have ordered the Warehouse jumpsuit and a couple of pairs of sandals as possibles flower sandals and silver sandals. If the jumpsuit fits I think it would be good for other social things planned in the Summer, both day and evening and to go on holiday. Same with the sandals which is why I've gone for block heel as I've got other higher dressier options already.

VivaVegas · 24/05/2016 19:01

And Outnet order complete:
slouchy dress
Sam Edelman sandals
Rag & Bone Top
Hopefully there will be something in all of this that will work and we useful for other times too!
All being delivered to work so DH can't whine!
