I bought something from Fat Face. Is this the end?

Picked a random jumper up in John Lewis and liked it. Looked at the label - 100% cotton. Liked it even more. Looked at the price - reasonable. Liked it even more. tried it on. Liked it. Dp liked it. Then I saw the label. I bought it anyway.

Am I doomed?

I was I Fatface a week ago. Surprised myself, loved the jumper and the hoodie knit Laksa linked. I usually don't see anything there.

I like H&M. I know it's a pain to root around, but there are things. I'm due a visit. Love Floisme skirt link.
Have been looking/pondering this top online, but I'm sick of ordering online and returning so I need to visit a real-life shop, have a look and a feel and a try. Might be hideous on me. Although at £13 I can hardly go too far wrong....

Floisme · 05/04/2016 07:34

I like that top (not seen it in the shop) although personally I'd find the sleeves a pain.

I like that Boden dress too that Laskia linked. Is it me or are Boden upping their game?

I does make me Grin that some of the posters who seem cross about this thread are themselves dismissing Top Shop/H&M etc out of hand. I never rule anywhere out - maybe because the shopping is pretty shite where I live - and I've found nice things in all kinds of inappropriate places.

G1raffe · 05/04/2016 07:50

I think people dismiss it as it's a bit shapeless and ages you about 10 years...

I really like it but I am huge and not sure it flatters!!

JohnCheese · 05/04/2016 15:31

You might be right Flo. Maybe the sleeves are what's making me hesitate. Sleeves dipping in to soup take away some of the glamour of the top!!Grin

Got the perfect v-neck t-shirt from Boden last week. Nice deep v, slim but not tight. Perfect. Cotton's a bit thin but it is a summer top. This one

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 16:07

I've got two of those t shirts in pink and white. The material is dreadfully thin and I wouldn't buy another - the white is pretty see through - not what I'd expect for the price.

JohnCheese · 05/04/2016 18:46

Aw really EnglishF? I have the grey. Yes it's thin but I really love it. Considering more colours. I was going to order a white, I prob won't now tho, can't stand see through white ts. Can I ask how does it wash.

Oly5 · 05/04/2016 19:14

I love all the cotton in Fat Face, and also love the quality of Boden.
Hate White Stuff and Joules though.. A mumsy step too far for me

AKissACuddleAndACheekyFinger · 05/04/2016 19:16

What's wrong with Fat Face? And Joules?? Almost everything I own is Joules and I like it.

Just a thought, but if this were a thread about a child going to school on mufti day and having the piss ripped out of them for their clothes labels wouldn't everyone be up in arms about bullying/judgement/nastiness?

What are the shops that MN will allow me to shop in?

Duckfacepalm · 05/04/2016 19:18

EEK I wear that brand. I have a fat face as well :) mini plastic chav fist pump :)

Sparklycat · 05/04/2016 19:30

I love fat face, I wish I could afford to shop in there. One day!!

Gwenhwyfar · 05/04/2016 19:38

"Only on mumsnet do I come across this snobbery towards Boden, joules, fat face, crew etc. If they are so awful why are they doing so well and why do so many people buy the clothes?"

I've never seen a Boden shop. When I started hearing about it on mn, I thought it was online only.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/04/2016 19:40

"Just a thought, but if this were a thread about a child going to school on mufti day and having the piss ripped out of them for their clothes labels wouldn't everyone be up in arms about bullying/judgement/nastiness? "

An adult should be able to deal with someone laughing at their choice of shop and should be less open to peer pressure.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/04/2016 19:41

Agree. I have clothes that I suspect lots of people would hate. So what?

Yes you're correct, but it doesn't take a huge leap to work out where the children might learn their behaviour from, does it?

SwedishEdith · 05/04/2016 19:59

People use the word frumpy when they just don't like something.

GooodMythicalMorning · 05/04/2016 20:02

I like Fat face but it's quite pricey. I prefer Saltrock as its better quality without shrinkage and much cheaper so I can buy more Wink

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/04/2016 20:04

It's hardly bullying to say, 'I like this but not that' etc, or that certain shops are designed to appeal to certain types of styles/choices. Surely most of us mix and match from lots of places.

And I like ballet shoes. Grin

Guitargirl · 05/04/2016 20:12

I was stopped by an achingly-on-trend looking woman on the street last year and complimented on my bag. She asked where I had bought it. When I told her it was white stuff she couldn't get away fast enough Grin

AmyInTheBoonies · 05/04/2016 20:21

Grin at Bon Marché. True that is the end of the road.

Fat face is the beginning of the end isn't it, at about 34 I started on the less loud bits of Boden and two years later I'm mooching around John Lewis looking at Hobbs and Joules. I honestly can not buy a lot in Topshop now so I had to move on.

EnglishFern · 05/04/2016 20:30

Not marvellously John. They've got a bit shapeless.

I'd go for a higher end M&S to be honest.

whirlygirly · 05/04/2016 21:17

Fat face infuriates me. It's just lazy. Virtually the same shit prints, crochet jumpers and drab pink and green colours season after season, with a few parkas, gilets and cami tops.

I used to shop there a lot but find it a dull and depressing experience these days.

looki · 05/04/2016 21:24

I'm a bit confused about the idea of reverse snobbery about Fat Face. It isn't it seen as just fuddy? I buy a little from there but I never feel nice when I'm wearing there clothes, that is probably because their clothes are very casual and I wore their dresses as maternity wear. I find their Breton tops great though.

WoodleyPixie · 05/04/2016 21:43

What part of my post did I say they were shops? Boden do have a shop and have the website. I buy most of my clothes and the Dc clothes online as a better range and choice than in the high street sadly.

looki · 05/04/2016 23:09
  • wearing their clothes.
