I bought something from Fat Face. Is this the end?

Picked a random jumper up in John Lewis and liked it. Looked at the label - 100% cotton. Liked it even more. Looked at the price - reasonable. Liked it even more. tried it on. Liked it. Dp liked it. Then I saw the label. I bought it anyway.

Am I doomed?

Me too, Floisme. Yes, I'm knackered and I still haven't got my figure back after having DD2. But that doesn't mean I'm going to embrace shapeless tunics and loose fitting jeans (with a bloody "jazzy" scarf).
I'd rather wear clothes that make me feel like "me", not a generic, identikit "mum."

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2016 14:56

It's definitely a bit shapeless. Bought the jumper in my usual size, a 12, and having now worn it I should almost certainly have sized down. I still like it though, and can see myself wearing it with quite a few things.

A few years ago, I did that find some gentle waist shaping improved matters, Flo but now it just makes things too tight in the wrong place. I'm at the point of needing something that makes the most of my décolletage while trying to deny that the mess below my bustline is even there. I'm many years beyond post birth wobbliness and well into middle aged tyre territory.

I love this thread.

Hopefully everyone will give away their Fatface and Whitestuff stuff, and I will swoop on it in the charity shops.

I got a nice grey wool lined zip hoody from White Stuff for £3 today. I will look classy wearing it Smile

Floisme · 08/04/2016 17:58

Oh me too, ouryve - I'm deep into middle age and I've had to learn how to dress all over again. I used to like a loose fitting tunic but it's the worst possible look for me now. I need clothes with a bit of structure to compensate for the sagginess. And good underwear.

pollylovespie · 08/04/2016 18:24

I find White Stuff has a lot of fairly frumpy stuff with the occasional gem, likewise Boden. I'm in my 40s and shop mostly in h&m for the cheapness. Seasalt I would think is aimed more at 60+ tho they have the odd gorgeous item. I got a fab dress in Joules but it's generally very boring. Re Fatface- I've always associated it with swotty students who didn't skive their lectures or smoke. I think you have to be more careful what you wear when you're oldish and fat like me- what looks fab on a model often looks frumpy on me.

I like WS and FF. Late 40s. Wear the skirts and tops. Wearing one now. Not all the clothes are shapeless and baggy. Fat face knit
wear is nice.

TwentyOneGuns · 08/04/2016 22:00

I quite like FF as like a PP my colouring is soft summer so their muted palette suits me plus I'm easily taken in by their generous sizing :) That said I was in there today and didn't see anything I liked, it all looked very samey and it's true, very blue.

I think all of these slightly 'mumsy' shops have a few gems lurking behind the gaudy florals and fun prints, I don't think you can write anywhere off entirely. I've had really nice things from White Stuff, Boden, Seasalt and FF but there's plenty in each that I wouldn't be seen dead in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/04/2016 22:02

Is blue suddenly the 'in' colour? Everywhere seems to be full of it.

Just looked at M&S. They have 90 blue dresses, 10 red and 9 grey.

And John Lewis have over 1 thousand blue dresses and 29 yellow ones!

yes I've noticed a lot of blue around. blue does not suit me at all.

G1raffe · 09/04/2016 00:08

Ooh I like blue. I need clothes. I avoid clothes shopping and haven't been in but 2 years. This is good news for me!!

Tillii · 09/04/2016 00:55

I've noticed a lot of green, blush pink and peach. Not blue so much

TwentyOneGuns · 09/04/2016 07:41

I wear a lot of blue and white in the summer but hardly ever in the winter. As the shops are now filling up with summer stuff perhaps that explains all the blue?
