I bought something from Fat Face. Is this the end?

Picked a random jumper up in John Lewis and liked it. Looked at the label - 100% cotton. Liked it even more. Looked at the price - reasonable. Liked it even more. tried it on. Liked it. Dp liked it. Then I saw the label. I bought it anyway.

Am I doomed?

I think we need a link. (Especially as I have a John Lewis voucher....)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 19:22

Links don't seem to be working for me, for some reason, but it's the one that Sofa said, in dark grey.

I'm rather partial to Fatface and their menswear and boys' stuff is fabulous. A big draw is the big choice of garments made with natural fibres, including knitwear.

If anything limits me, for myself, it's the amount of sleeveless stuff. Not good on me at all.

I find Joules and Seasalt a bit too neat and tidy for me and I did buy some nice, cool t-shirts in White stuff, last year, but they ended up a bit twisted out of shape by the end of the summer and I needed a 16 for my boobs, which meant that they were just a bit too gapey at the neck and I had to constantly check that i wasn't flashing more thn a bit of bra strap.

This is the first season in a long time I've found anything wearable in Next. I rather like this linen shirt, though it's not the best quality linen, which makes it a pig to iron - mine's in aqua

I also have a nice striped cotton sweatshirt from there that's very easy to wear, though again, the quality of the fabric is slightly lacking and it's very easy to snag.

Fat Face does well because of the reasons you'd imagine:
Young staff/sort of Corwall surf theme to lull the middle aged customer.
Unthreatening washed out looking colours to blend with (though not compliment) British complexions.
Styles that suit many and fullers figures.
Safe casual wear
Expensive enough to make you think the purchase was worthwhile.
Aspirational children's wear.

I wouldn't wear it as a uniform but would by the odd thing.

This one. It certainly is a lovely jumper. I bought it in green (but may consider other colours... i've got a JL voucher to spend).

Laska5772 · 04/04/2016 19:37

I'm a Yummy MN Granny ..
I've got a few things from fat face and white stuff and bought 2 tunic dresses (denim and red) in Boden sale this last week. See. I just dont care..
(wore the denim one to work today with leggings and boots and thought I looked dead cool! Grin)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 19:39

I like that Boden dress - v 60s.

Laska5772 · 04/04/2016 19:43

Yep, I'd buy that also (if it didnt have buttons down the back) . Ive got one of these in blue and love it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 19:45

The buttons down the back are what sold it to me.

Wish this was black. Fingers crossed that the link works.

Thanks Remus I went a bit mad , butwas 20% off and another 10% on quidco.. so justified it to myself!

megletthesecond · 04/04/2016 19:48

I'm 41 and would look frumpy in FF / Boden / Seasalt. I sometimes think I'm going to spend my life in H&M.

Laska5772 · 04/04/2016 19:49

Sadly link didnt work on my PC Remus

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 19:51

It's the Tenby Jersey Broderie Dress - but it's blue. Did I mention that I don't like blue? Grin

The Seasalt tops wash really well and are in gratifyingly thick fabric.

I think a Seasalt top, dark skinny jeans and long boots is the cats whiskers for spring.

Plus Joules gilet if it's cold....

burnishedsilver · 04/04/2016 19:59

I think the key is to ignore the labels and judge each item on its merit. Lately I can't find any brand, in any price bracket, that's consistently producing quality items in natural fabrics. I have to cobble together outfits by picking up random bits from all manor of brands.

Laska5772 · 04/04/2016 20:02

Remus are you a 14 by any chance? Ending in 45mins on ebay!!

SauvignonPlonker · 04/04/2016 20:18

I'm nearly 44 & love Joules, Fat Face, White Stuff, Ness. Not so keen on Boden though; I need to try things on rather than buying online.

I'd look silly in H&M, Primark etc. The quality of their clothing is poor, and looks cheap & nasty.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 20:19

Not a 14. That one is nice but I think I'd look a bit like a serving wench in it!

Floisme · 04/04/2016 20:51

< standing up for H&M> Again.

You have to rummage and try on but the quality is there , especially the Logg range.

EnglishFern · 04/04/2016 20:58

H&M pjs are great, I've had ones from Next (got a hole in the first couple of weeks) and M&S (shrank), the H&M are still going strong.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 21:02

H&M longline vests are brilliant. I have about 7 of them. And the £3.99 t-shirts that are something like 98% cotton and 2% elastane. I don't buy anything else from there though, mostly because the design of the shop makes me want to hurt people (or myself). The vests and t-shirts are usually in exactly the same place, so I can rush to that corner and grab.

EnglishFern · 04/04/2016 21:16

I don't browse around either, funnily enough. Mine seems sorted into "types" of clothes and I just cba.

I do browse the kids stuff though. I rarely leave without picking up a few tacky bits for DD who loves pink and glitter their stuff. Happily it's cheap enough that you can't go too mad.

Floisme · 04/04/2016 21:16

I want this but I'd spill my tea down it. 83% cotton and lined.

I like FatFace but feel I'm a bit too dumpy to wear what I'd like to if I was a size 12. I like the natural, laid back style. White Stuff I find is hit and miss. Don't like Joules, never think to look at Boden.
I do like a charity shop bargain though.....my DH was out of work for nearly two years and one of our local ones sells everything for 99p so I've had some fab bargains, including last weekend a gorgeous lined jersey dress from Phase Eight for all of 99p!
I had my colours five years ago and one of the best tips was to just cut out labels if they make you uneasy eg if you need a size bigger than usual in something you love, just cut the label out and it will make you feel better!
