Come and chat about fashion, make up and anything glittery and frivolous. We'll take your bad hair day seriously and you never have to apologise for a new bag Grin

And if you happen to know where I can find comfortable but stylish trainers in kakhi or dark brown you are particularly welcome (Blatant abuse of thread setting up privileges) Wink

They do look good Amber but apart from the cold I'd have to paint toe nails.........but, i did wear sandals one NYE about 10 years ago and it was snowing and I'm still alive Grin

MarshaBrady · 22/03/2016 20:51

Dry I know. Dh gave me such a hard time! He's put it in a box with silicon, no chance.

MarshaBrady · 22/03/2016 20:52

Linus big love to you today, I'm glad everyone is safe, but it strikes at the heart Thanks

SoyYo · 22/03/2016 21:01

Hello catching up with links and news on thread
Love the dress dry but not one to dispense advice on shoes as I don't wear anything above 2 or 3" due to wide feet but think black would suit dress

I very nearly travelled to work meetings in Brussels this week and then my diary got filled up but colleague that did go stuck there as he couldn't get flight back to UK, just dreadful the multinational I work for has offices close to airport, 5 people who work for our company were at airport when it happened and one was slightly injured...just awful have been messaging with people over there all day and words cannot express shock...as a frequent EU traveller makes me shudder and will try and put out of mind Sad

karcheer my MIL passed away last November and very sorry for you I know what you and DH must be feeling right now Flowers

On fashion front waiting for uniglo order including Ines navy blazer which will probably not suit and go straight back but I let you know on quality if you're interested
Also ordered a new leather bag from a company called Knomo which looked super organised for work but hugely disappointed, good quality leather, good size, nice deep tan leather, useful pockets and laptop section but in the end I don't love it and was "meh" about it so I will have to return. The search continues for a new work bag that will hold my laptop and all the other rubbish I carry when travelling...

On work/life balance I could tell you sooo much having brought up to lovely DS and Always working, have done it all from role swapping with DH when I got expat transfer and boys only 3 & 6, to working p\t to full on full time and we've survived it all. Key is housework and garden help. I grew up in another time, another country and with live in servants at home (I know it sounds awful but that's what they were sorry to tell you) and so no hangups, but whenever family visit me they all feel sorry for me having only part time help here. Whereas like you I feel extremely lucky to be able to afford it so its all relative. Finally DH and I are and have always been hands on and very equal in sharing domestic and childcare duties, regardless of who happens to earn the higher salary at the time

Love your chats!

QueenC · 22/03/2016 21:17

How's things shop? I really like the star tee you pinned. Also like the BR blazer.
karcheet how's things?
cranagh nice tee
marsha ive never dropped my phone down the loo but when I used to carry a bleep at work it would often fall in Blush
soyyo glad your colleage is ok

cranagh the holidays really worried me but they seem to be ok so far. Luckily my dm and cousin are helping over the summer and it helps that in the holidays I can do my 14 hours in 2 days so less childcare is needed.

VivaVegas · 22/03/2016 21:31

It was probably me that was moaning! The scales are simply not balancing at the moment, need to sort it out.
The sad events of today do make you think about what's really a big deal and what's not and how just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can change things.
In more cheerful news, my cobalt shoes should be ready to collect tomorrow!

FedupNagging · 23/03/2016 07:35

Ugh, have been awake since 4am so am tired before the day has even started! Viva, hope you had a better nights sleep.

Mara I sailed right passed your links yesterday Blush - the equipment jumper is so nice, I love it.

SoYo' I've been reading the curly hair thread - your curls are lovely, so pretty. I've been straightening my hair over the winter but am now inspired to embrace the frizz curl

Marsha I think you'll be buying a new phone today!

shopafrolic · 23/03/2016 07:52

Marsha the iPad came back to life after the bath incident remember? Stick it in a big bag of rice in the airing cupboard.

shopafrolic · 23/03/2016 08:28

Marsha

maradesbois · 23/03/2016 09:47

Morning,

Can't stop thinking about Belgium too, I was there at the airport just a few days ago when they caught the French terrorist and there was a strong police/military presence which felt stupidly reassuring at the time. Love to you and yours Linus

Vegas hope you can get something done about your work/life balance, sounds stressful atm but at least you recognise that something has to give.

Psyching myself up to write my essay, need to hand in tomorrow before the holiday weekend. Wfh again which is good as outnet delivery due but is going to be an absolute pita to send stuff back if not good.

Some gorgeous Etro dresses on outnet yesterday but good stuff got snapped up immediately. I love, love this one

Shop how are things?

maradesbois · 23/03/2016 09:51

Oh and meant to say Dry I vote for your black heels, silver sandals sound too much

maradesbois · 23/03/2016 09:54

Just read back, yes, the whistles black suede heels sound perfect

AmberNectarine · 23/03/2016 10:20

I couldn't wear black with that dress but that's just my colour based oddity.

LinusLovesBretons · 23/03/2016 11:19

Morning!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts everyone. I still find it hard to believe what happened. I used to live and work in Brussels and have been to Brussels airport dozens of times.

It was also surreal to see a relative of my BIL being interviewed on television as she was picking up her DC at a kindergarten in Brussels.

She has been living with an army presence in her neighbourhood for months and has had to drop off her child at the gates as no parents are allowed on the playground anymore.

I know people in other countries have been living under these stressful and life threatening circumstances for years or decades but it is such a shock when it happens so close to home.

Sorry for bringing the thread down, I will go and have a look at some of your lovely links. Flowers

VivaVegas · 23/03/2016 13:58

Its very sad Linus, I travelled through the airport earlier this year which spooked me yesterday as I think you can be quite detached when something happens in a place you've never been to.
I collected my cobalt shoes and they are a lovely colour, very bright and spring like, first impressions are good but I need to tray on once home from work.

justasecond · 23/03/2016 18:25

That's awful Linus Flowers glad your family are ok. its so depressing, when will it ever end Sad

How are things karcheer?

Loved your outnet buys mara esp the jumper. I missed a couple of things from Etro that I wanted to order. I saw some cream crepe stretch trousers and a blue striped cotton shirt yesterday morning ,they had them in all sizes so I thought I would order later, then they were sold out a couple of hours later in every size.

Hope the phone recovers marsha I heard the rice thing does work but takes a good couple of weeks.

I think a closed toe shoe would look better with that dress dry
viva love the cobalt shoes.

SoyYo · 23/03/2016 20:30

Got home late from office, reading through and catching up. Uniglo parcel has arrived but no time to even open though was not impressed with courier chuck in it over my garden fence when no one opened the door Angry good job it was dry today!

Fedup thank you for kind curly comment I always try and help out fellow curlies, I'm so very curly I've learnt how to deal with it though in my teens I longed for smooth perfectly straight hair once I learnt how to care for it properly I never looked back and have saved thousands of hours trying to fight nature. They are an intrinsic part of my look.

Keep those links coming!! Happy evening

SoyYo · 23/03/2016 20:37

Silly phone speller meant to write chucking it over the garden fence...
Linus Brussels is too much, thank goodness your family\friends are all safe but no doubt everyone still in shock ...

Drywhitethanks · 23/03/2016 21:47

Yes, black suede courts it is.

Karcheer · 23/03/2016 22:33

justa I went with dh to the hospital today, they've not moved her to a hospice yet as I think my fil has avoided making some calls, but I guess why, making that call must feel, very final. Anyway, she was in a lot of pain, having morphin to ease it. She could talk to us, but had no real idea of where she was, and probably who we were.
Hopefully she'll get moved to a hospice as the hospital isn't really set up,for the care she needs now, although they are all clearly saints and I've absolutely no idea how they do it. Poor dh is a mess and finding it very hard, he's very much someone who, will happily throw money at a problem, but alas all the money in the world can't help, which leaves him pretty helpless. I've just held he's hand all day.

In other news the Barts are lovely, I'm a size 35.

QueenC · 24/03/2016 06:50

Morning all.
karcheer very hard for you all but as you say the hospice will be a better environment for all of you than a hospital ward. The nurses/Drs in hospices are fab at symptom control and emotional support. Not saying that hospital nurses aren't but if she's on an acute ward there's so much going on and the needs of the palliative patient often can't be fully met.
dry are you wearing a jacket?
linus you're not bringing the thread down. I love that we chat the hard stuff as well as the fashion.

libertydoddle · 24/03/2016 07:07

karxheer Flowers QueenC is completely right. It will be so much better for all of you at the hospice.

dry black courts sound perfect.

Cranagh those trainers look promising. I must see if they are stocked anywhere in London. The mention of Arnotts gave me a little nostalgic moment Smile

Linus I totally emphasise. I grew up beside the border with Northern Ireland and you do get used to extra security etc but its not nice at all. Currently my heart is sinking at the thought of what Britain leaving the EU could do to the situation there.

Karcheer Flowers for you and your dh.

How are things with you Shop?

The shoes that I've had my eye on (and waiting for a discount code!) are selling out fast in my size so have ordered - had to try 4 different places before I found a pair. I'll link when they arrive.

Stokey I think you have a wedding this weekend too - did you decide what to wear?

QueenC · 24/03/2016 08:23

Dd just said to me "didn't your stomach used to stick out more? The exercise has paid off". I'm glad that she's picked up on me losing weight/toning up by exercise rather than sticking to a certain number of calories.

AmberNectarine · 24/03/2016 08:23

Morning all

Sorry to hear about MIL karcheer, I dread having to deal with anything like that Thanks

Thanks also for shop and linus

We went to the Harry Potter studio tour with MN last night - was absolutely fantastic, we were so spoilt! The kids had an incredible time and now think they are Harry and Hermione respectively, brandishing their wands.

Dressed down for work today in black high neck ribbed top, mid blue skinnies, kitty flats and red McQueen skull scarf. Running hugely late so didn't have time to change bag from Chanel which doesn't really go but I'm telling myself Chanel goes with everything. I'll get one with GHW next time
