29 crepes a leaping.......

magimedi · 10/02/2016 19:33

Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

Have a lovely day Beachy. Sorry to hear that you are feeling puffy and tired. Take it slowly and no rushing back to work. Thanks

BD , hope you get news of a space for DM closer to you. The powers that be just see slots and then people to go in slots, not the practicalities for the family or the emotional side. Stay strong. Thanks

Mrs S, hope you are ok. You've had a hugely emotional week, so don't beat self up as well. Go easy on yourself. Thanks

wordassociationfootball · 27/02/2016 11:52

Thanks all. MI is right, it is a good school. Had concerned reply from head's PA. They will investigate. It was a cover tutor and then her usual English teacher for a double lesson.

Last night was a follow up school reunion. Sexy ex was there. Still got it and made it clear he thought I had Blush Grin but lordy what a dreary bread head he is. Plus he told a couple of grim/crap jokes. Mrs S do you dare report?

I amazed myself by completingvPark Run this a.m in 36 mins, several years behind dd2 and dh and just in front of someone who walks it!

herbaceous · 27/02/2016 12:29

I would like to make a complaint. This week I have fasted (well, 500 cals) for two days, and gone swimming. I have lost a grand total of 0 (zero, 0) pounds. This is disagreeable. I do hope it's not a side-effect of the v low-dose sertraline (SSRI) I've been given in lieu of HRT. That would suck.

wordassociationfootball · 27/02/2016 13:06

Herbs. Week 2 will yield resultos if you keep at it.

Lalsy · 27/02/2016 13:29

WAF, well done on parkrun! Mark of good school, IMO, is how they tackle mistakes and problems - they happen everywhere and bad schools deny them.

What is a bread head?

wordassociationfootball · 27/02/2016 14:32

Lalsy bread head... Over interested in money.

bigTillyMint · 27/02/2016 14:33

WAF and MrsSShockGrin Go girls!

WAF well done on Park Run! And it sounds like the school are taking it seriously.

Herbs, I don't know how you can do the 5:2. Indeed I have lost interest in any sort of diet and am growing like a balloon. Not helped by DH taking me out for late brunch. He actually had to talk to me after I confiscated his phoneGrin

Now to relax - DD is working (with very loud music playing) and DH and DS are off to watch footySmile

motherinferior · 27/02/2016 14:34

All quite grim here. She wasn't up to lunch out but he was out getting the telly mended so we talked a little bit over lunch and she perked up over the fudge and ginger wine I got in their local posh wine shop. Now on slow trek back to London via Ely.

Lalsy · 27/02/2016 15:25

Oh, MI. Perking up a bit is a win, in these circumstances I think Flowers.

WAF - excellent phrase - will try to find opportunities to use it.

wordassociationfootball · 27/02/2016 16:09

I had a feeling you'd be on a wavelength with it Lalsy.

MI well done with the wine. Small special things are so important. Sorry it was grim Sad

BTM Smile at confiscating dh's phone.

Have to learn mermaid plaiting for dd2 who is going to be Glimmer from The Hunger Games, that great literary character

BeachysFlipFlops · 27/02/2016 16:38

Shit forgot about Book Day.... The well known Dorothy from Wizard of Oz is the go to (as dsis as ubermother made a costume about 15 years ago and it's done at least three to four girls in the family!)

It seems the promise Dj made last night that 'you just relax all weekend' has gone out the window now the rugby is on. So I'm trotting off to hear dd2 murder Handels Messiah (or bits of) in the cathedral tonight Confused

bigTillyMint · 27/02/2016 18:12

WAF Star for mermaid plaiting! And to Beachy for sourcing a ready-made costume for WBD, the scourge of parents (usually mothers!)

We have rugby on here too. DD got all excited when friend suggested going swimming as well as gym, we had to root out a bikini that might still fit, and then they were back 5mins later as the leisure centre shuts at 6!

DH and I off round to friends later for dinner and DS is suddenly disinterested in the rugby and flurrying on his social media. I predict DD will be moaning about screeching girls later. If she doesn't go out!

Stropperella · 27/02/2016 20:06

Ahhh, WBD - ds has announced that he and 2 friends are going as characters from the Hunger Games. And he is Katniss Everdene. Confused He says he has a wig and a bow and arrow, so it's all sorted, apparently. Hmm
Beachy, very sorry to hear about your medical situation. When are you going to have surgery? Hope you're feeling more comfortable soon.
MI, glad that the wine perked your dm up a bit, but it does sound very Sad
WAF, so not pfb. Hope the school is closely examining what went wrong with their system. Ds's school system had an epic fail last term when they accidentally sent a "where is your child?" text to more than half of all the parents, i.e. about 300 people. Funnily enough, their phone lines were then red-hot for the rest of the day. Grin
Hope MrsS is resting up with a large gin, cats, and a good film.
I am super-mightily pissed off with this 2 jobs malarkey. Was so pissed off earlier that I had a fairly major meltdown on finding that some twatsicle had left the freezer door open and I would have to embark on emergency defrosting manoeuvres. I kicked a foam footstool ferociously around the sitting room and it didn't make me feel any better at all. Bah.

Rudy, good luck with sorting out the fuck-noodles. Hope to see you on the 12th!

CointreauVersial · 27/02/2016 23:32

Grin at toppling chickens and foam footstool footballs!

Thank fuck my DCs have outgrown Book Day. Purgatory. The only thing I have to worry about this evening is equipping DD1 for her DofE Practice Hike tomorrow. She has just about grown into my (charity shop bargain) walking boots, thank goodness. I'm trying to persuade DH to drop her off before he takes DS to football so I don't have to get up early. Although he is coming down with man-flu, and sneezing lavishly in all directionsAngry, so it may be me getting up after all.

Meanwhile, I'm browsing places to stay in California...

herbaceous · 28/02/2016 09:43

We haven't got WBD until 11 March, so have a while to think up something. Which might be tricky, as DS's current favourite book is his space encyclopaedia. Not sure how I'll dress him up as the Big Bang.

Utterly exhausting choir concert last night. Eighteen (18, XVIII) mainly acapella sacred works, including Allegri's Miserere and Monteverdi Beatus Vir, with a load of Palestrina and the like. Preceded by a three-hour rehearsal. We were low on second sopranos, so I had to belt it out. Next to woman who insists on singing slightly sharp the whole time 'to keep the choir in tune'. Hard on the ears!

Now swimming with DS and friend, then more friends coming for Sunday lunch and no doubt too much wine. Huzzah!

Rosebag · 28/02/2016 10:24

beachy give yourself time to recover...all that rummaging around inside....even when it's just an exploratory...can't underestimate recovery time Flowers

And you MrsS..... Where's Sister? We have need of her for several Crepeys!

wafGrin .... I don't run into old flames very often....maybe because I don't have very many of them Blush when I do they're usually bald and fat, which tends to put the brakes on any indiscretions! Sad. I am.

MI you did well yesterday, hard as it was Flowers

I am deep in homework and DD premenstrual hell. Much screaming yesterday. DH and I escaped in the evening, to Hampstead Theatre and saw a play with incredibly well known and great actors in. But oh it was freezing last night, wasn't it.

I have had an unaddressed (ie, no name) handwritten, letter from annoying trustee full of a bizarre mixture of platitudes, "sorry if you thought I ...." -type sentences ( these are not apologies at all when phrased like that) and veiled accusations, finishing with the hope that we can meet in the future for a chat and a cup of tea. It's upset me terribly......Just not being able to be heard , iyswim.
Whatever I do I can't get my point across. I wasn't expecting anyone to agree with me...we're way beyond all of that. Just to be heard. Sad

magimedi · 28/02/2016 10:45

Flowers MI - such a hard time for you.

Rose - I would just walk away from the whole thing - it can't be worth you getting so upset over.

One of my greatest joys in life is being finished with childrens' education - and I think it's tougher now than it was 10+ years ago - for the parents, I mean.

Have woken up with DH's cold. I've been brewing it all week, I reckon so am almopst pleased it's here because then it can go asap.

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 28/02/2016 11:02

Rose - I agree with MM - just walk away. You're never going to make any headway with people like that.

DD2 is in bed with a temperature of just under 40 and a sore throat.

DD1 is sulkily doing some overdue homework.

DH is cleaning the flat, which means vast quantities of bleach, and moaning about me leaving my stuff on the window sill in the bathroom. I am ignoring him.

I don't have many serious exes, having gone for quantity rather than quality in my yoof. My first love died about 18 months ago from a brain tumour, and the one I went out with for four years before DH is now living overseas with his wife and kids. We're still in intermittent contact and have lunch or dinner when he's in this country.

I have lost the letter from the hospital that says "PLEASE BRING THIS LETTER WITH YOU." I suspect that DH has put it away somewhere.

Think I have a new favourite gin. DH was slightly worried that I managed to identify them all correctly last night, when we did a blind tasting!

magimedi · 28/02/2016 11:05

Do tell the name of your new gin!

Mine is Death's Door - love the name just as much as the taste Grin

OP posts:
magimedi · 28/02/2016 11:06

Posted too soon - when is your next hospital appointment ? Tomorrow?

Am sure they are used to loads of people forgetting the letter - don't fret about it.

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 28/02/2016 11:14

MM - King of Soho, with Tanqueray 10 coming a close second, pushing my traditional favourite, Bombay Sapphire into third place.

Hospital appointment is on Wednesday.

magimedi · 28/02/2016 11:26

Bombay Sapphire gives me a terrible headache - even after one.

We really should meet up in some gin joint....................

Will have everything crossed for you on Wednesday.

OP posts:
Lalsy · 28/02/2016 11:36

Am definitely going to try King of Soho next.

I have a cold too, am going to do very little today and hope that makes it go faster than the last one.

Rose, these people sound awful. Walk away. If you don't feel you have had a chance to set your POV out, maybe send one last very factual email and say that's it? But it sounds like they are not listening whatever you do and behaving incredibly unprofessionally to boot.

motherinferior · 28/02/2016 11:39

I love Bombay Sapphire.

Ring the unit - I can help you identify the number if you need - tell them you've lost the letter and ask them to print out a copy to pick up when you come on weds and/or email it to you. The sky will not fall in if you don't have it anyway - they have your results, and that's what you are there for. Those letters are just a formality. I know whereof I speakSad.

My mum asked me if I would sing something at her funeral. I sang her something very badly and explained that I really can't - I can read but not sing when I am close to tears. My dad being hopeless as ever. Heard him haranguing my mum on why do both his daughters hate him, which would be tragic if there wasn't 52 years of backstory - and apparently on Friday, when my mum has just gone through a particularly nasty and invasive procedure which has pretty well established that the cancer is in her bowel, he was the one in such a state they had to come home before asking questions.

motherinferior · 28/02/2016 11:46

In other news:

Rose, they are being absurdly unprofessional . Remind yourself of that.

Herbs, that sounds a gruelling concert. I must rouse myself to do a lot of practice for ours next week. Have solo aria. Ahem.

And I have a number of ex shags old flames. Two (2, ii) now both coincidentally live in York, where DP now has to go frequently for work and he keeps suggesting a romantic weekend. ShockBlushHmm
