Auriga darling, when we were looking into stairlifts my lovely SIL found you can often get them second-hand - this might be worth checking out? I am so so sorry. Please let us pour libations of choice down your throat next Sat.

I am feeling much better, thanks to taking most of yesterday off and getting late start today. Am going eventually to pootle into East Dulwich with DD1, who is currently watching one of the Potter movies in homage to the great late RickmanSad

Stropperella · 16/01/2016 11:51

Auriga, I am really sorry to hear about your dsis - she really has been dealt a horrible hand. I hope you manage to regain control of the deadlines. There is a domino effect that is set in motion when "life events" all conspire to hit one at once :(

NUFC69 · 16/01/2016 12:50

So sorry to hear about DSis, Auriga. Please take time to look after yourself.

BD, belated happy birthday to you.

Here we have been on tenterhooks as it looked as if DS and family might be moving in next week instead of towards the end of February, but fortunately the builders have been able to come up with a solution. Phew.

addle · 16/01/2016 13:29

Auriga, so sorry about your sister. Re stairlifts, for my dad we ended up going through the Age UK associated company that didn't mess about with fake prices and were efficient.

NU - phew!

Beautiful weather round these parts - recommend getting out if you can, life being otherwise stressful/difficult for so many of us. DH away this w/e but loved-up DS around so considering best approach to maximum peace and leisure in house

Playing early Bowie albums through in sequence as DD and I share joint memory of very pretty song on an early album played over and over again in car on camping trip in France about 10 year ago. Just can't find it, driving us mad

Auriga · 16/01/2016 16:38

Thank you everyone. Yes, I'm looking into second-hand, reconditioned and rental stairlifts, though the savings are small. The biggest companies (including the Age UK one) don't either do rentals or buy back used equipment.

I'm irrationally wound up by the sickly over-familiarity of the staff on the phone, I know they must all be following scripts but when they use my first name, or ask me how I am today, I want to hang up on (or possibly murder) them.

I've spent today preparing for guests who are coming tonight & am so tired & fed up that I'm frankly no longer looking forward to it. So I've given DH and DD some specific tasks & am about to disappear into a luxurious bath.

hattymattie · 16/01/2016 18:14

Have had only one glass of wine which has gone straight to my head - am clearly lightweight!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 16/01/2016 22:04

Am lounging about at home, watching a documentary on the Bolshoi Ballet - amazing and shocking in equal measure! Saw 'Room' at the cinema earlier - the first half was very good, the second rather spoilt it, but the main actors were excellent.

Auriga, very sorry to hear about your poor sister and what a lot you are having to manage - I really hope you can make it out for a drink next Saturday. I would love to see you BD and anyone else who can come... what's the plan?!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 16/01/2016 22:09

In rare s and b news have just done some shopping from my sofa while dh makes coffee and bolshoi doc is on pause - this jumper and this dress. Some bargains to be had on there now and their stuff is (usually) lovely.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/01/2016 22:34

Nice. I have a dress very similar to that, and it's very useful.

Have done nothing today except cleaning, tidying, washing, changing beds and cooking. Made cinnamon buns, which went down very well. Even if they were a bit overdone. DH went out with the girls. It took quite a lot of persuasion, as it is usually me who goes out with them at the weekend, but they had lunch at Gaby's spent money in Forbidden Planet and Fop, and came back quite cheery.

DD1's Theory of Knowledge teacher has just emailed me to say how much better DD1 is doing and she is very pleased with her work over recent weeks, which is a huge relief. I really hope she does well in her French exam this summer, as it would be a huge confidence boost for her. DD2 hates school and everything, wants to drop Spanish and Biology and is generally shouty. She is going for a haircut tomorrow, going from bum length to boob length, as she puts it. I just hope she doesn't come out looking like Crystal Tips...

Ooh, GGG, that dress is bargainous! I have one similar-ish, but mine is very summery. Maybe I need a wintery one? Interesting what you say about "Room"; I have read the book, but didn't realise there was a film out.

Have had an enjoyable day today with DM, who popped over for a visit between holidays. We all went out for lunch (DCs were gratifyingly pleasant and chatty), then DM and I had a little mooch around the shops. Meanwhile, DS has turned his ankle playing football this morning and has had to bow out of tomorrow's quarter final match (against a Woking team, BTM Wink). Although if it keeps snowing (as per the forecast), the match might well be postponed.

Blackduck · 17/01/2016 08:21

Oh GGG that might become the crepey dress.....

MI mention Camino and prosecco....... I am happy for someone who knows London better than I do these days to decide.

I went to bed early and feel better for it. No snow here but very foggy....

motherinferior · 17/01/2016 09:21

Where will you be, and at what time, BD?

Auriga · 17/01/2016 09:25

Hot water did the trick for me as usual & we ended up having a lovely evening with friends, our neighbours from two houses ago. DH ironed the huge linen tablecloth (in half the time it takes me), table looked v welcoming & grub was appreciated. Their children are delightful & still get on well with DD. DM remembered them & enjoyed the evening. We got out her mother's best serving dishes & her grandmother's candlesticks, which trigger lots of happy memories.

Work catch-up today Snow here Grin

Blackduck · 17/01/2016 10:00

I will probably spend morning with mum and then can come in early/mid afternoon if that suits? What works for people?

Collymollypuff · 17/01/2016 11:10

Auriga, that sounds so cosy and lovely, especially for your dmum.

Early/mid-afternoon suits me for a MU, and I am always up for Camino.

Don't go Rudy - it looks gruellingGrin And good call on the work/lounging by the woodburner.

I had a lovely weekend away - feel really relaxedSmile The Grand Hotel Eastbourne is fabulously five-star in a faded gentry type way and so calm and quiet.

But they managed to block the toilet and then break the toilet brush while I was awayShock!

BeachysFlipFlops · 17/01/2016 16:57

We desperately need a new thread ladies, suggestions please.

Good call Rudy, on the work thing.

We are having a manic Sunday evening, sort of jobs all round. Dh is avoiding renewing the car insurance, keeps mentioning that 'we'll' do it later. 'We' won't be, just saying Smile

addle · 17/01/2016 17:01

Sounds fabulous, BTM, very David Niven/Separate Tables

GGG - couldn't resist your website and placed order late last night but think I should have given your name as referral to get you discount. Shall I try to do that in retrospect? Think I know your name.

DS and friend took over kitchen to deep fry ice cream in filo pastry - what could possibly go wrong?

Crepe Souls

Crepin About

Crepe La Vie

Crepe, Rattle and Roll.

No idea. I hate Sundays. Have shouted about Lack of Help and DH is now aggressively and noisily emptying the dishwasher. Did some online shopping last night as I seem to need more work clothes in my new job. Off to Germany next week. May buy gin.
