Lovely day till right at the end, when we all sat through East Enders because DD thought someone she knows was going to be on it.

O.M.G.

How does anyone stand it? Child murder, adult murder, adultery, car crash, bad manners, ghastly wallpaper, alcoholic cirrhosis, criminal deception and it looks as though one of the murder victims is a case of mistaken identity. My blood pressure is through the roof. And then DD's friend didn't appear. She is very apologetic. i've told her I will need a cup of tea in each hand for the foreseeable future to recover from the trauma Xmas Grin She's made a good start.

Delighted to see news of everyone's good day.

CointreauVersial · 26/12/2015 00:47

Have been playing cross-generational parlour games. The one where you write names on small pieces of paper, then describe them to your team-mates. I'm appalled to find out that DD1 didn't know who Oliver Cromwell was. None of the youngsters had heard of Engelbert Humperdinck, Carson from Downton, or Sarah Millican. But they took their revenge on the oldsters with Ariana Grande, Zoella, and a variety of Spongebob characters. Grin

Lalsy · 26/12/2015 09:30

Hello crepey dears, I can't see all messages but glad to hear of Christmas truce Stropps, and of getting through MI and BD. And of your white knuckle midnight mass triumph addle. And Crem hope re entry of dd into domestic circle was smoothish.

Thank you so much to my SS, who clearly knows me too well. A gin I have never tried!

We had a lovely day, if slightly quiet. I can live with that. Everyone very cheerful and only minor ailments 😒

Blackduck · 26/12/2015 10:11

Hello all. My SS - the Teenager who came to tea, and some champagne mixers - I think my SS blew the budget.... But many thanks.

Dinner was cooked and eaten, but it is very clear dmum can't come home and we will need to work on what happens next. It was bitter sweet.

Dp drove us home and I am afraid we over indulged on wine at that point whilst discussing it all.

Rosebag · 26/12/2015 10:29

auriga I loathe Eastenders....

BD so sorry about DM. It's a horrible realisation, that they just can't come home, but I found once we'd got to that point it was easier to make decisions and get some sort of a plan sorted out.

herbs I have PM'd you....

I am not up yet...and aching somewhat. Old.

bigTillyMint · 26/12/2015 10:32

Lovely low-key day yesterday with no moaning/tantrums, etc from anyoneXmas Smile

But I didn't sleep well worrying about DM's future (and having eaten waaaay too much!) - wish I could wave a magic wand Oh well, off up there shortly.

motherinferior · 26/12/2015 11:29

Thinking of you, BTM.

I am still in bed. It's nice here.GrinMy offspring have clearly inherited my sister's present-giving skills, having deployed themselves with style in Tiger (including a quite marvellous fleece blanket which matches the cop

motherinferior · 26/12/2015 11:30

COP? Which matches the colours of my office.!

Am suggesting to DP (currently turning the left

motherinferior · 26/12/2015 11:32

SOD - this is because I am holding the phone differently!

Suggesting to DP (currently turning leftover roast potatoes into a frittata - the man has many lovely qualities) that the shawl he gave me ("they didn't have the one you wanted and I'm not sure about this one") is repurposed for his aunt. Grin

Blackduck · 26/12/2015 11:33

I am still in bed too MI - I am thinking I might not bother getting out of my pjs......

Lovely earrings from ds that he chose and bought with his own money!

Blackduck · 26/12/2015 11:35

Ahh, so not a good shawl then?!

Talking of 're gifting' of which dps sil is a past master - I wish she wouldn't - as she handed ds's present to me in Sunday she said 'it's not exciting'. So why give it to him? I'd rather you didn't bother - actually it's bloody insulting.....

Blackduck · 26/12/2015 11:39

MI I am not implying you are being insulting, but it's clear with sil she opens a cupboard pulls something out and says 'that will do'..... Angry

motherinferior · 26/12/2015 11:40

Oh no, BD, I got what you meant! I think his aunt might like it.

And I really don'tSmile

NUFC69 · 26/12/2015 13:00

Happy Boxing Day, everyone. Glad to hear that the celebrations went well. Yesterday was great here, too, with not too many tears from the DGC (who, of course, have far too much stuff). Lovely presents, but amusingly two aprons (one from DD and one from DDiL (they know me well), plus a handbag from DD, and a purse from DDiL, bought separately, but almost identical in colour. DSis followed her usual practice of buying things I will never use/wear/love by sending, amongst other things, an absolutely awful framed photo of me and DH - if I thought I really looked like that I would wear a ski mask! DH and I have got to the stage of laughing about it, tbh, although I could cry sometimes.

It's the most appalling day: heavy rain, and we have a football match at 5.30. Confused I might just have a quick look at the sales on the way in ....

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/12/2015 13:17

I would like everyone to go away and leave me on my own. The Shitten shares my sentiments and, having crapped lavishly on my Santa mat (right on his face) is now hiding.

I am reading the best book I have read in a long time - it's called Hausfrau. Have any of you read it?

OP posts:
Collymollypuff · 26/12/2015 13:23

Who's it by, MrsS? Am always looking for the next book to read.

NU, I have had that - a truly appalling photo of me sent as an act of aggression by an envious colleague. At least it's transparently aggressive, isn't it? None of the passiveness, oh no. Grin People do like to remind us of their worst traits, even if they are merrily in denial themselves.

motherinferior · 26/12/2015 13:27

All photos of me are horrible. I actually refuse to look at any, because they make me cry.

bigTillyMint · 26/12/2015 13:58

We are in the slow lane of the M1. It is not going to be a quick journey Xmas Sad

Sorry that some of you are suffering at the hands of thoughtless present givers. I have luckily managed to avoid that so far.
My lovely colleagues were very kind and gave me a large bottle of gin, bottles of tonic and a vox of choccies. Plus I got a g+t bath set in the work SSXmas Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/12/2015 14:02

Molly - it's by Jill Alexander Nussbaum.

We now have a 4 hour marathon of some shitty Catherine Cookson drama. DH has gone out for a walk, DD1 is hiding in her room and DD2 is drawing. I am making coleslaw and drinking Rioja.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 26/12/2015 15:02

I have a g&t scented candle!

BeachysFlipFlops · 26/12/2015 16:34

Well it's all done and most have gone home.... Bit sleepy now.

Thanks so much for my lovely smelling SS. It's really luxurious Smile

My fridge is full of half eaten things, but no real meals left.

Cremo · 26/12/2015 17:02

Me too Beachy , but Dh is promising a fry up feast this evening which mayor may not contain 10 egg yolks, 8 Brussels sprouts and 14 roast potatoes, I put a cauliflower cheese in the freezer for this precise moment , but nobody wants it.
Am shattered. For first time in ages my leg is very sore and my arthritic paws are v creaky. Dd is sitting in living room with headphones on attached to Ps2 and Dh has crashed out. I might go to bed with a book for an hour.Smile

hattymattie · 26/12/2015 18:53

NU - horrible about the photo. Hide it in a draw. Although I"m probably the age now where I would just say "I hate myself in that photo. Am a bit like MI actually - I hate myself in pretty much all photos.

Wanted to curl up with a book today but DD1 wanted an interview suit. We could only find a French interview suit - super jacket but I think the trousers are maybe a little tight and therefore not conservative enough.Hmm

bigTillyMint · 26/12/2015 19:08

Sorry to hear you're feeling sore and creaky - I guess it's now the adrenaline has stopped from work and you're relaxing. Ish!

We are here and DMs heating is most certainly not broken - it's like a sauna! The TV cables were the problem - she had jammed the one with loads of prongs in badly and once I'd straightened them up... She seems OKish apart from a badly cut thumb (something to do with milk bottles I think!) - much better face-to-faceSmile

wordassociationfootball · 26/12/2015 19:38

Back from Wales and tasking self to do an hour"s clear up before falling face first into a Secret Santa bath - for which I give give thanks!!!!!
