I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

MrsC - I can't remember what I have (I suspect the EdT) but it is strong - I can smell it on myself, and it's still pretty powerful, having squirted this morning and having some licked off by the cat. I think it's the vetiver that he likes.

I am looking for an incense-y type perfume. I liked Sahara Noir, but it has been discontinued. Quite liked L'Air du Desert Marocain too, but not quite enough.

MrsCocoa · 02/02/2016 23:01

My incense top picks:

Nu - my favourite big hitting warm, oriental incense (TF era YSL)?
Passage D'Enfer - a lighter, airy incense, good for summer (or office?)? (Does remind me a bit of Timbuktu).
Suffolk Lavender - aromatic/darker modern incense?

Haven't tried any of the CdG series - but on my hit list. Donna Karan's Black Cashmere doesn't do it for me. Think there's a discontinued Creed?

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/02/2016 23:15

I have virtually a full bottle of Nu - I never use it. Maybe I will give it another go tomorrow.

OttiliaVonBCup · 02/02/2016 23:22

I like Nu a lot.
The EdP and EDT are quite different though.

Shallimar, I never had a bottle, but jeeo meaning to buy some.

The new Diptyque, forgot the name is a beautiful incense.

Dzhonka or whatever it was spelt was lovely too, very light and airy.

MrsCocoa · 02/02/2016 23:28

Sahara Noir has been discontinued? That's awful. Looks like it's still widely available though?

FrustratedFrugal · 03/02/2016 05:54

Incense: I really like LADDM, CdG Avignon and CdG Zagorsk. I have heard somewhere that people who love perfume often really like incense perfumes, but they are rarely big sellers.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 03/02/2016 06:47

Hello perfumistas....do you know of anywhere I can get a decant/samples of Cuir Cordoba? I am obsessed with it to the point that I keep getting caught sniffing myself in public in quiet reverie....I have checked everywhere I can think of, but even Perfumed Court and StC wouldn't send to Italy even if they have it.

I may end up either splashing out on a FB or getting a friend in the UK to take delivery and then post on, but wondered if there was any lovely little online place I've missed that you know of!

(If there is anything similar out there, do please tell me as well, I have decided leather is my new thing!)

getoffthattabletnow · 03/02/2016 08:21

THENLATER 'Nose' in France will ship 2.5 ml samples of the Cuir Codoba to Italy.
Bois Farine today. The Sandalwood and Cookie Dough vibe is really comforting on a icy sleety morning.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 03/02/2016 08:31

Oh will they? How silly of me- that was where my original sample came from, I never thought of them! Soooo lovely, and the review I read of it as smelling like the inside of your Mum's glove drawer in the 70s is spot on!

Thankyou!

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/02/2016 08:48

SOTD is Ivoire - the old stylee one in the stripy box, not the bland new reformulation. DH says it smells like "sweaty fanny" and is appalled that I am wearing it to work. Grin

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2016 08:59

SOTD Thierry mugler - womanity
Stupid name Grin
Female work colleague "you smell so fit I actually fancy you" Blush

MissBattleaxe · 03/02/2016 09:43

Hollinhurst. That's interesting about Womanity. I hated it so much I was nearly retching and although I keep a sample, I cannot ever bear to sniff it.

I don't mean that to sound harsh, but it's very interesting that was awful to me, is lovely on someone else. That's the wonder of perfume I suppose!

hollinhurst84 · 03/02/2016 10:23

Definitely - my mum wears Chanel, samsara, poison, and not a perfume (I think it's called!)
They all suit her, but smell horrendous on me. Jasmine and especially paired with ylang ylang = cat pee on my skin

FrustratedFrugal · 03/02/2016 20:37

ThenLater I've met Keiko Mecheri at a perfume fair in Italy. Have you contacted her perfume house directly? Surely she must have Italian distributors. Here's one in Naples that I love but you might have one in your town.

FrustratedFrugal · 03/02/2016 20:44

Leather perfumes - Bottega Veneta edp, Cuir de Russie, Bandit, Cuir Pleine Fleur, Tuscan Leather, Marquis de Sade, Cuir Mauresque, Cuir Cannage, Leather Oud...

YetAnotherNC · 04/02/2016 11:19

Waiting for postman to deliver a sample of Sahara Noir....
SOTD Fille en Aiguilles.

YetAnotherNC · 04/02/2016 12:11

Cresset the Encre Noir arrive in the post today. I'm wearing too much Fille en Aiguilles at mo to test it, but a sniff was promising. Thank you, it was a lovely treat to get in the post. Btw possibly weird things to say? you have lovely handwriting... Grin

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 04/02/2016 13:47

Frugal- Thanks so much, I am always v dubious about Italian websites, so good to know that one is above board, very lovely it looks too!

cressetmama · 04/02/2016 15:51

You're welcome YetAnother, and thank you for your kind compliment. If you do love the juice, there's about 95ml left in the bottle seeking a kind home.

But, newsflash! Did anyone see in the news that Estee Lauder is buying Frederic Malle? Do we need to stock up on favourites before they reformulate everything out of existence? here

cardoon · 04/02/2016 17:45

Oh no! Time to buy a FB of Carnal Flower then - where to get the best price I wonder?

cressetmama · 04/02/2016 20:19

The upside may be that distribution will be increased, but (speaking from ignorance) is Jo Malone what it once was?

MissBattleaxe · 04/02/2016 21:21

Well I know The Body Shop went down the toilet when L'Oreal bought it.

CointreauVersial · 04/02/2016 23:49

SOTD is YSL Cinema.I bought a decant on a whim, having enjoyed the odd department store squirt, and I love it! Soft, warm, almondy-vanilla - I can still smell it 16 hours after applying. Mmmm.

TheSteveMilliband · 05/02/2016 10:39

It's been great reading this thread, lots of ideas for fragrances to try. Just tried guerlains mandarin basil which smells lovely and light but maybe a bit too light, not sure of its staying power. I was wondering if you perfumistas also get excited about home fragrance, and mixing your own scents? Am wondering whether to invest in some essential oils to make my own reed diffusers but not sure if it's worth the hassle, and will I probably end up with something not as nice in the end.

MissBattleaxe · 05/02/2016 10:45

I would use reed diffusers but the juice is harmful to cats so I avoid. I'm rather fond of my Geranium Bourbon Miller Harris candle though.
