"One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress."
— Karl Lagerfeld

Its that time of year again when our thoughts turn to winter woollies, Christmas jumpers and party dresses. Come and join our musings and purchasing, high end and high street, we love them all.

Terrible customer service Shop boo to Matches.
To answer Marsha's q's, I don't have many going out tops mainly because I don't go out v often in the eve and when I do its mostly to a family do where I would wear an asian outfit. Having said that the Raoul printed silk sweatshirt I recently got is what I would call a "going out" top. I don't think I wear my all saints leather jacket v often these days although I love it too much to get rid of it.

Having spent a couple of days in badly fitting boots hell Happy I say return if they are too small even if they will not be worn for walking loads. Its just not worth the pain and you won't want to wear them if they hurt. I would Ebay them and get the right size.
I bought some Karen Millen biker boots earlier this year which I love but kill my feet. I sized down because the 7 seemed to big. I should have got them and put an insole in. I have another pair of Hudson boots which have the same problem. I would love a pair of black ankle boots with a small heel that fit perfectly. Seriously considering the Russell and Bromley ones (although haven't tried yet) but I have never spent that much on footwear, I can do expensive bags but find it harder to justify spending that much on shoes. Please someone convince me its ok!

libertydoddle · 20/10/2015 22:55

Oh I love the hot air balloon one shop. I think you would wear it more often than pink boots enables

V v disappointing CS from Matches.

Have been thinking lots about a going out look. I think I need something like Lucy Choice embellished flats. And bronze / burnished gold. Maybe a leather skirt with a metallic knit top....

libertydoddle · 20/10/2015 23:00

justa the R&B boots are the most I have spent on footwear in a long time - last time I spent that much was about 10 years ago (also on boots). They are so good I have been wondering if it would be completely crazy to get a second pair and put them away for the day my current ones fall apart. So comfortable and I have had comments every time I have worn them. Does that help? Smile

Ujjayi · 20/10/2015 23:12

One fall sounds nasty. Hope you are ok now.

Shop Matches CS sounds awful & yes your relationship is with the store not the brand. Hope all is resolved soon.

Mara your Jimmy Corkhill reference cracked me up! Funny because I keep seeing leather miniskirts worn without tights on IG/Pinterest & all I can think of is Bev Dixon, tottering around in her stilettos Grin

Still can't decide whether to buy the SE boots or not. I'm still trying to find mid-heel daytime ankle boots. Something like Ash Jalouse but in leather rather than suede.

I'm loving the style of Dress Like A Mum whom I discovered on IG a week ago. Quirky & fun. One I think her style would appeal to you & I think possibly Amber too. I also love Two Sisters Two Countries (again on IG) & My Fashionable 40s.

Night Voguettes.

MarshaBrady · 21/10/2015 09:04

Justa I think you should! Do it do it

Lib like the sound of your potential new going out outfit

Ujj do Ash do leather or would you like non Ash?

Shop yes they look great

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 09:27

Have you looked at Hudson boots Ujjayi?
Off to call Matches AGAIN........

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 09:36

Don't suppose any of you have any contacts at Matches who can help me escalate this?

MarshaBrady · 21/10/2015 10:20

Shop I haven't but have they still got your top?

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 10:30

Yup. Top returend 18th Sept.
23/9 They said they were unable to refund as it was general wear & tear - I'd worn it twice for a couple of hours.....
I emailed back quoting Sales of Goods Act (Thanks Novice)
27/9 They emailed to say looking into it
13/10 I chased - no reply
16/10 I chased - no reply
Called yesterday - they told me my sweater had been sent to Equipment and they were waiting for a response from them. Promised me a CB by the end of the day - no call
Called today - Again they have promised me a CB by the end of the day.

Rubbish Shop very frustrating.

Ugh am very hungover this morning. I was out with school friends in Soho last night. We tried to leave at the reasonably sensible hour of 11.30 only to find someone had taken one of my friends' back pack with her work laptop instead of his own. She was staying the night with me so we had to wait while they called up the guy and got him to come back. They plied us with G&Ts & champagne to compensate but didn't get home til 2. Still I was happy with my outfit: Zara black suede button up mini skirt, black suede ankle boots, green peasant blouse & leather jacket.

Hope you all have more productive days than I will Grin

KittyHello · 21/10/2015 11:10

Shop what an absolute PITA, can you complain via their Twitter or FB accounts? They usually speed up the process once everyone can read a complain. Fingers crossed they come back to you today.

Was looking for a daytime skirt for work, I just don't do skirts at all, I live in trousers and came across this

sequinned skirt not for daytime obviously. I like it in grey for going out but would wear it pared down with a very plain top.

Larastheme · 21/10/2015 11:32

shop, that is no good at all, I love matches dearly, but I agree their CS is very poor indeed, yes maybe the article was faulty, and therefore the manufacturer should be held responsible , but them being a retailer , they should carry some responsibility too,
And isn't this the second faulty item you returned to them? I remember you had issues with the MIH Breton top too,

justa Good boots are expensive, but they last longer,so maybe getting one £200+ boots that will last a couple of years,is better than buying a pair of £150 every year,IYKWIM, and what is the use of a nice expensive bag if the footwear is not as nice? Bad footwear kills whatever great thing you are wearing,

Channelling my inner Francoise Hardy today, wearing my new APC Stevie ruffled shirt, with MIH flares, burberry trench and marant wedge boots,

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 12:06

Ooops - I've been saying Equipment and meaning MiH - still the same issue Lara Blush

libertydoddle · 21/10/2015 12:06

Losing my work laptop on a night out is the type of thing I have nightmares about Stokey. Thank goodness she got it back but I can imagine you feel rough today.

Shop that is really terrible CS, I will think twice about buying from them again. It's making me wonder though who do we all rate CS wise? IMO Outnet, Uniqlo and Hobbs are all excellent - very speedy with responses to emails and quick to process refunds. John Lewis are not what they used to be and I found Comptoir absolutely appalling last year.

Love that sequined skirt Kitty. Pure Collection had a lovely gold sequined skirt last year that was reduced well in the sale and I am kicking myself for not buying it at the time.

Lara your outfit sounds great. Today I am WFH and wearing a midi length kakhi jersey tube skirt from Asos, cream Me&Em scoop neck jersey top (Flowers Shop), my new taupe long line drapy Theory cashmere cardi. Will add Nike trainers when I pop out later. Love this look, feels like I have made an effort but very comfortable and warm too.

VivaVegas · 21/10/2015 12:32

What a pain Shop, I do think CS is very poor in general these days. And I think if you get good service it's almost a surprise! My local Whistles store are excellent in this respect and not s&b but Waterstones are very good, their head office were very helpful, no questions asked approach when I had a stolen gift card to deal with earlier this year. I've had good dealings with Boden when I've had quality issues but fortunately not had any other issues I can recall.
Liberty and Stokey skirts are the one thing I struggle with when its cold but not cold enough for thick tights and boots so your outfits sound great but what are you wearing on your legs??
Love that sequinned skirt Kitty. I still fancy some sparky silver shoes for a bit of frivolous fun, but as they probably won't get loads of wear, don't want to spend too much.
I'm WFH today too but in very old and very casual/comfy clothes that I covered up with a coat and boots on the school run as it was raining!

libertydoddle · 21/10/2015 12:44

viva am wearing socks as I am at home! Later will probably put on some 40 denier opaques. It is tricky in this weather.

LinusLovesBretons · 21/10/2015 13:38

I am definitely going to try on that APC shirt when I see it in the shops lara but I'm afraid that as the colours suit you, they won't suit me as I am a very different colouring from you.

stokey 2 am on a schoolnight?

That is rubbish CS shop and I agree, try and get them to react via fb or twitter.

I HATE bad CS with a passion and my blackist of shops/retailers I don't want to use anymore is growing every year.

Your WFH outfit sounds great lib and I'm very jealous that you can wear trainers like that.

FFS, even my DM (who's 67!) recently bought some trainers (Chanel hightops) and she looks amazing in hers. She wore hers with a Brunello Cucinelli dress and opaques and looked very chic.

Why can't I find a pair that works for me?! I have tried everything from Nike, NB, Stan Smiths to the very expensive versions and none suite me. Waaa!

libertydoddle · 21/10/2015 14:55

Linus have you tried Converse ballet style? Or keds?

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 14:59

Just ordered these cute boots for DS
and these pyjama bottoms and a blue raglan tee for me!
I've started doing some online Christmas present shopping but seem to have developed a "one for them, one for me" approach Hmm
Customer service - NaP and the Outnet always brill - Matches can stuff it. Was impressed with my local Space NK, the Dressing Room are fab, and in-store at JL or Waitrose good.

shopafrolic · 21/10/2015 15:01

I can see you in Ash Virgins Linus

MarshaBrady · 21/10/2015 15:34

Linus how about Marant? Or indeed Chanel high tops Grin

Vegas I got a message via the ether (Pinterest) that you should look at Johnny B from Boden for silver sparkly shoes. And also am saving to message sender - join us! Ok going to check I've got that message right.

LinusLovesBretons · 21/10/2015 15:41

lib normal converse don't suit me either but the ones you linked look very nice. I'm not sure they will work with skirts and dresses though.

shop I hadn't considered Ash Virgins but I might give them a go.

marsah I think the Marants are a bit too like the Stan Smiths but maybe I should try them on.

I did try on my DM's Chanel hightops but they looked completely ridiculous on me. I just looked like a little girl wearing her daddy's trainers, they were soo wide and big on me.

VivaVegas · 21/10/2015 15:54

Thanks Marsha, not sure I understand the latter part of the message though! I did see those yesterday and they are the best I've seen so far. Need to find a Boden discount code, think I've seen a 15% one kicking around.

QueenCardi · 21/10/2015 16:10

linus I love my keds. They're a bit lower on the foot so not so clumpy looking.

MarshaBrady · 21/10/2015 16:17

Oh that should have been am also saying to the messenger to start posting as mentioned she read Vogue. And then a wave
