Help - Wedding outfit recommendations needed !

OK - need your help ladies !

Wedding is on 23rd Dec - in a cold and hilly place !

Me is size 16/18 - not massive chest but broad back, wobbly tummy, and generally rather soft and rounded !
Hair is dark blonde with highlights in a short bob !

Would like something smart and stylish that makes me look slimmer than I am. Although at 39 am wary of looking like mutton !

Hat not strictly necessary - although I do like hats - few others have got fascinators, but I'm not sure about those !

Ideally something that I could wear again ?

Help please !

first instinct says trouser suit with bustier / camisole / corset type top underneath and killer heels...

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 15:41

Golly - wouldn't have thought of that in a million years !!! Very boring me !

Have you seen any nice ones around ?

nailpolish · 01/12/2006 15:44

JackieNoHoHo · 01/12/2006 15:52

Might be a bit formal but nice colour.

nailpolish · 01/12/2006 16:01

i like this and there are trousers to go with

everything seems a bit chocolate or black just now ...

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 16:03

Hmmm - like the colour but it's a bit man-made !!

Also - I do the suity thing a lot at work - so not sure about another suit !

Seems a bit masculine this look - I was thinking of being a bit more girlified ? DD is the bridesmaid and I am so jealous !

I saw a nice teal blue velvet ruffley jacket and matching skirt on the Monsoon website - make me look bigger d'you think ??

OP posts:
nailpolish · 01/12/2006 16:05

nailpolish · 01/12/2006 16:06

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 16:06

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 16:10

Yes I like that Monsson dress - what would I wear over it ?

OP posts:
scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 16:12

Well the tits aren't massive but a good push-em-up bra makes them look respectable I guess !

OP posts:
nailpolish · 01/12/2006 16:13

which dress do yo u like

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 16:15

I was talking about the first one you posted - the Rosa print one - but actually I like all of them !! Think I need to browse the Monsson site more !

Would a Monsson dress plus jacket be terribly dull ??

OP posts:
nailpolish · 01/12/2006 16:59

wouldnt be dull at all

monsoon is very weddingy

i am sure they would have a jacket to match the dress if you go in the shop

and a bag and shoes!

scatterbrain · 01/12/2006 19:13

Hmmm - dh has just said that all those dresses look MUMSY !!!! Arghhhh - but I am mumsy fgs !!

Back to the drawing board maybe ?

Anyone else got any inspirational thoughts ?

JackieNoHoHo · 01/12/2006 20:35

Do you fancy a 'galaxy' style dress ? You'd probably have to invest in some magic knickers to smooth things underneath, but it's definitely sexy. Not entirely sure what colour jacket/coat you'd have with that though.

JackieNoHoHo · 01/12/2006 20:42

Or this is pretty, especially in the red. Fabric's probably a bit thin though if it's going to be cold - really you want something you can wear with boots, I think, to keep you warm.

JackieNoHoHo · 01/12/2006 20:45

How about this wrap dress in the dark blue? Velvet, so warm-ish. YOu could wear black shoes etc. Not cheap though - what's your budget?

KezzaG · 01/12/2006 20:51

That blue velvet wrap dress is lovely.

Or what about a long smart skirt with a lovely soft cashmere belted cardigan, maybe with a bit of sparkle on it or a flower corsage.

I have also seen a skirt and velvet jacket suit in Kaliko but cant find a website for them. The skirt is A line layered with a bit of sparkle and the jacket is velevet with a ribbon bow instead of buttons. I have seen them in a teal colour or kind of burnt orange. I wanted to go to a wedding just so I could buy it.
