What's your opinion of this dress - especially petite women.

I'm just 5ft tall, size 10. Will be wearing 3inch high heels.
Can this dress work? Technically it is A-line shape so I think it could work.

The dress is couture - about £1500 preloved and it'll have to be shipped in from the states. It's not available in the UK. It's a risk but looks amazing. What you think??

Sorry but I'm not keen on the way the skirt falls, have you tried on any dresses? I wouldn't pay that much for a dress I hadn't tried on, I found they looked so different in real life to how they did in photos

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 28/08/2015 18:46

Have you got a link for a bigger pic? The draping bits at the front look like toilet roll but I can't see the detail to see it as it should look.

NotTodaySatan · 28/08/2015 18:47

Well I really dislike strapless wedding dresses and frou froy skirts so it ain't for me.

The shape of the skirt also looks quite unflattering on someone who is obviously tiny.

Hmm not keen.

sooperdooper · 28/08/2015 18:48

Also, it's a huge risk to pay that much for a dress to be shipped from the U.S, you won't be able to get a refund if you don't like it on, I wouldn't risk it

MyHeartsPumpingWine · 28/08/2015 18:49

In not keen on the skirt from this dress, reminds me of loo rolls unraveling, sorry.
I agree with PP dresses can look very different on and it's a lot of money to spend to find you don't like it.

nannyplumislostinspace · 28/08/2015 18:49

I don't like it. Sorry. It would be too much of a risk for me.

PurpleDaisies · 28/08/2015 18:50

I really don't like the skirt either sorry. But if you love it why don't you try on some some similar dresses and see what you think? I would be brave enough to pay that much for something I hadn't tried.

patterkiller · 28/08/2015 18:51

I think a wedding dress is as personal as it gets and you're the one that has to like it. Is there anywhere that stocks a similar style you can try. The style I was dead set on looked awful and I ended up with something I had never thought of.

PetiteBateau · 28/08/2015 18:53

I don't like it & I think it is not a great style for a petite woman

ShooBeeDooBeeDoo · 28/08/2015 18:55

I don't like it at all I'm afraid.

It looks like the top of one dress stuck on to a loo roll holder thing.

Even if you decide you love it I think you are taking a risk because you can't try it on and it's a lot of money for a second hand loo roll holder wedding dress.

LadyB49 · 28/08/2015 18:57

I'd be afraid in case it could be a con, a cheapo copy.....and no comeback. Too much money to risk. My young friend got a fab wedding dress in a closing down sale for £90. My dil' s gorgeous dress was £150 in a sale.

Baconyum · 28/08/2015 19:00

Ex bridal boutique sales person here. The trails of chiffon will make it look as if its too small I feel. Also a fully embellished bodice is heavy to wear and can be too much on a petite frame.

As a petite lady with a slim figure you have a lot of options but honestly ime the best thing to do is try AS MANY styles as possible on first.

Go to real bridal stores and the larger department stores to start with. DON'T rule anything out. Lost count of the number of times brides came in with a set idea of what they wanted, but... knowing our gowns and seeing their figure, colouring, proportions, learning what type of wedding they were having, myself and colleagues were able to select gowns they would never have considered but fell in love with when they tried them on.

They look very different on different people, size doesnt tell us your proportions. Colouring also needs to be considered (very few people suit pure white eg plus the traditional colours are definitely not all that's available now)

Honestly go to a real shop preferably a traditional boutique because they really know their stuff.

Also even if you do ultimately buy online, get it altered by a seamstress experienced in altering bridal gowns. Your standard 'take in a pair of trousers' type place doesn't have the experience in dealing with the fabrics or the styles of gowns, again we had several brides coming to us last minute to buy a dress because a dress they had spent a lot of money on had been ruined by 'mum's friend with a sewing machine' who'd never worked with taffeta or silk before.

Congratulations on your engagement and I hope you have a wonderful day. Flowers

LoveChickens · 28/08/2015 19:05

I really like it actually. Normally I'm not keen on strapless but this is nice.

CookieDoughKid · 28/08/2015 19:21

Ah I see what you mean about loo roll! Maybe I can get a similar dress without the trailing loo paper swishing on the floor. I wanted something a bit different than your A-line plain dress / simple dress that so many petite women go for in order to make them look taller. I'll post another link of the dress in a sec.

There's way too much dress for someone who's petite. I think you could do much better by way of something to suit you. Smile

Baconyum · 28/08/2015 19:42

It doesn't even have to be a-line, it could be bias cut, graduated, column, sheath, shorter length, bustle...

Ebb · 28/08/2015 19:46

Kind of similar

burnishedsilver · 28/08/2015 20:03

I like it but I'd be concerned that the dress would end up wearing you not the other way around.

CookieDoughKid · 28/08/2015 20:20

Lovely one Ebb. I'll post a pic of THE dress I end up with as soon as I know what it is! Promise!!

I look forward to seeing it

legolegolego · 28/08/2015 21:57

I like the look of the dress on the first pic, on the second is looks a bit fussy. The lady wearing it looks quite small too but it works for her. I agree what others said about trying dresses on but it is a lovely dress.

SuburbanRhonda · 28/08/2015 21:59

I think the model in the second picture is probably much taller than the first one, and that's why the dress looks better on her.
