What cheap, quick things do you do for a boost?

After what seems like months of virus' and general life I'm beginning to feel a bit haggard and knackered.

Everyone around me seems to be bounding with energy, looking groomed and polished while I just throw any old thing on and feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. To them I probably look how they look to me, I just don't feel it!

So, what are your best cheap, quick fixes in this situation? Anything from a vitamin/super food to make up to clothes to a certain nail polish colour to a must have item of clothing (ok, so that's not going to be cheap but adding it to my NEED list and swooning over it will give me a boost!) I know I need to take better care of myself but for now I'm planning on faking it until I make it!

I tidy up my eyebrows - always makes me feel instantly 'done'
I use a CC cream even if I'm not wearing any other makeup
I dye my hair - a fresh dye job always makes me feel brighter
I also suggest Benefit's That Gal primer to anyone who will listen - it's magical stuff and doesn't dry my skin or look too shimmery like a lot of primers
A good face scrub with an exfoliator or cloth, followed by a face mask
Eye cream before bed - makes me look rested
Exercise - just a walk will do it
Pints and pints of water

KnitFastDieWarm · 21/05/2015 14:27

Oh, and earrings. Make me feel polished Grin

Mumstudentbum · 21/05/2015 14:56

Shave my legs, slather with lidl moisturiser (about £2 and amazing) clean nightie and clean sheets. A spritz of lavender around the room.

This gives me a good nights sleep all cosy making me feel better In the morning.

3luckystars · 21/05/2015 15:42

I found a great tonic its called metatone, its for people recovering after an illness. I'd take that and get loads of sleep and then go to Boots when you feel up to it and buy whatever takes your fancy.

Glad you are feeling better.

LillianGish · 21/05/2015 16:00

Just given myself a bit of a boost actually. Hair cut (€30 so didn't break the bank - I have short hair so getting all the shaggy bits tamed is an instant pick up and takes about 5 years off) then picked up a new foundation and a summery lipstick. Feel a million times better.

BabyGanoush · 21/05/2015 16:10

Good basic hair and skincare.

IMO, being out of doors and doing some exercise (like walking) is great for feeling and looking better.

Nothing improves the look of facial skin more than a good dose of oxygen/fresh air IMO!

BabyGanoush · 21/05/2015 16:11

mumstduentbum, agree with those tips too!

Luckytohavemybaby · 21/05/2015 16:21

Ditto all the eyebrow comments.
Go for a run or brisk walk then give myself a facial
Some yoga stretches
Put on some fake tan
Drink hot cranberry squash
Take multi vitamins
Hope you feel super energised soon x

Homebargains do a cheap vit b and c complex like berroca. It's only £1.

billybear · 21/05/2015 19:02

I get lots of bugs that take weeks to go a friend recommended from Holland and barrett health shop priced about £2.50 a box.PROPOLIS lozengers made from honey bees. I have 2 a day wrapped like sweets , I have been on them 6 weeks and feel a lot better.

FeelMyAge · 21/05/2015 19:06

Forgot to take berocca or evening primrose oil today, not sure I looked any different after the few bits I did last night but I definitely felt slightly better! Will do same again tonight and add a bit of fake tanning to the list.

Think I need to go in with the heavy duty tonic to be honest to see any real difference!

Walked to and from work (only about 2 miles each way but blew a few cobwebs off Smile).

Need to book in for a haircut and I'm pinching the earrings/one accessory idea for tomorrow!

Umisays... Where did you get your colours done and how much did it cost (if you don't mind my asking)?

I think we must have similar colouring, those colours suit me too. I suspect I'm a 'Winter' but I really don't know.

yy to iron tablets (I'm deficient, I know) - and Berocca. I haven't had mine today... >>> rushes off to get it!

I take lots of supplements every day and an Actimel.

I also book in with my beautician regularly and my hairdresser every six weeks. That way, I know that my 'bad days' are numbered and expert help isn't long to go.

I really have to do that wardrobe cull, I'm sure I'm addicted to buying clothes but I would still tell anybody who asks that I have nothing to wear.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/05/2015 19:25

MrsNPatz... I've had that once, very nice. Where do you buy it from?

FeelMyAge · 21/05/2015 19:50

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe I've just googled Winter and confused myself even more! I think I may be either a cool or clear winter (if I am in fact a winter!). I have dark brown hair with dark reddish tones, grey/blue eyes, I think they are quite a bright/vivid/sparkly colour as people always comment on my eyes and skin that is quite pale but tans very easily and holds tan for a long time.

OP please could you say what the coconut oil cleanse entails? It sounds fab. Thanks.

evertonmint · 21/05/2015 20:09

Eyebrows - it's taken me nearly 40 years to realise that I look and feel so much better if they're neat and slightly more arched than their natural shape.

I wear jeans and t shirts a lot as I WFH and have small DCs so on school and nursery run a lot. A blazer makes me feel much smarter for minimal effort.

Just spending the time on a proper skincare routine in the evening makes me feel like I love myself more!

And finally plenty of water and no sugar/carbs - I feel tired and awful on sugary/carby days, and vital and happy when I've not had them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/05/2015 20:29

What website did you go on, FeelMyAge?

Your colouring sounds really interesting, almost Celtic but with skin that tans easily... Envy

FeelMyAge · 21/05/2015 21:16

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe I just googled 'winter colour analysis' thechicfashionista (sorry, haven't got the hang of links!) was the first one to come up.

I have my own boost which I completely forgot about until I went to get tomorrows outfit ready - nice, matching, luxurious feeling underwear! I'm guilty of saving things 'for best', nice underwear makes me feel gorgeous and stand tall, which in turn makes my clothes look better - the clothes that I've taken a bit more effort with as I've got nice underwear on!

OP posts:
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/05/2015 21:31

Thanks, will have a look at that one.

I do that too - save nice stuff for 'best'. I don't know why? I need to stop doing that and wear it all.

FeelMyAge · 21/05/2015 21:34

Flyinggeese21 my version of the coconut oil cleanse is possibly not the same as everyone else's Grin I slather on coconut oil, massage it into face and neck (I do mine without taking my make up off first, not sure whether that's the right way but it is very satisfying to see mascara literally melting away!), wet muslin cloth with hot water and gently wipe off. Then I reapply coconut oil, massage in, fresh muslin cloth in hot water and lay it over my face for a few minutes and then wipe off in little circular motions.

I buy the coconut oil from supermarket (the stuff you can eat, tried a cheap pot from Superdrug but it just wasn't the same!) and the muslin cloths are from various hot cloth cleansers that I've bought and not quite liked enough to buy again.

Have read on here that different people use different oils and there will definitely be someone more qualified and less slapdash than me who can explain better. Not sure whether it's the coconut oil, the massaging or the exfoliating action but my skin looks lovely and radiant when I do this. If I do it every night my skin looks a lot smoother and plumper after just a few days!

Waxing at a salon. It not only removes hair but also ex foliates your skin as well!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/05/2015 21:48

Definitely a 'clear Winter'. Just in case anyone else wants to check their colours, FeelMyAge found a great site:

Sitting in the sun even if it's only for 15 minutes
