What cheap, quick things do you do for a boost?

After what seems like months of virus' and general life I'm beginning to feel a bit haggard and knackered.

Everyone around me seems to be bounding with energy, looking groomed and polished while I just throw any old thing on and feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. To them I probably look how they look to me, I just don't feel it!

So, what are your best cheap, quick fixes in this situation? Anything from a vitamin/super food to make up to clothes to a certain nail polish colour to a must have item of clothing (ok, so that's not going to be cheap but adding it to my NEED list and swooning over it will give me a boost!) I know I need to take better care of myself but for now I'm planning on faking it until I make it!

A sheet mask and a sleeping mask - instantly brighter and plumper skin.
Possibly also a green smoothie (pineapple basil kefir honey chia seeds whizzed in the blender).

applecatchers36 · 21/05/2015 22:12

Mash up an avocado and use it as a moisturising face mask.
Oil pulling (rinse mouth with coconut oil) to remove stains from teeth.
Bright painted toenails, maybe a nice coral.
Sally Hansen spray on leg fake tan.
Bath with a few drops of moisturising oil.

Flyinggeese21 · 21/05/2015 22:29

Brilliant thanks Feelmy. I currently use a cleanser and warm flannel but will definitely try coconut oil, that really appeals! Thanks.

buzzy1 · 21/05/2015 23:08

An early night helps me look less hag like in the mornings

EmNetta · 21/05/2015 23:49

Instant tan works for me, particularly in winter, and it's often reduced at end of season

littlemoot · 22/05/2015 01:07

An hour in the garden on a nice evening tidying up and planting always gives me a boost. Exhilarating to be outdoors after work

I was enjoying reading your pampering session, MrsDeVere, until the last line... I think I would omit that one from mine.

I'm the same age range as you and I think my health regime is better now than it ever was. For me, supplements hit the spots that I (constantly) miss.

Grin... I would do that too.

Before I found my excellent 'waxologist'(?), I used to use creams for hair removal. It's very difficult to be embalmed in this stuff and try to do household chores to while away the time. Folding clothes, dusting - all abandoned due to getting cream everywhere and myself full of dust, all the while staggering around like a bad approximation of John Wayne.

I didn't know that about ice, I like it too. I know I'm not anaemic as I give blood but as I failed the last one, a blood test revealed that I wasn't far off it.

I take a daily 'pot' of supplements now, Holland & Barrett is my dealer. Berocca is fantastic stuff, even moreso if you like orange drinks.

MrsDeVere, I don't know if you have a Costco near you but my mum is never out of there and sometimes they have a really good offer on Berocca - 4 tubes/boxes of it in a pack for £10. It might even be 5 in a pack. That Flurodex sounds a pain, too much precision for me.

I drive a lot so always have a small water bottle in the car and pop a Berocca in it. I'm not a big fan of orange so I just sip at it whilst driving and it soon goes.

I'm hearing a lot of things about Vitamin B3 at the moment... supposedly one of the very best supplements to have. I should check the level in my multivit. I'll take anything as long as it's 'small' as I have a strong gag reflex to anything 'good for me'.

Lopsidale · 22/05/2015 13:31

Upping my water intake has helped me loads. Also look into taking tumeric in your diet. It's a miracle I swear by it!

You're welcome. :)

I know you're a Clarins fan, MrsDeVere but Costco also (sometimes) have Olay on offer - I get the pack of 3 or 4 'total effects' - they also have the BB one but I prefer the original. It's really cheap when on offer.

I use a lot of Estee Lauder creams and now have that Clinique facebrush thing, but my go-to daily moisturiser is Olay total effects 7-in-one. Smells lovely too.

I have quite expensive ash blonde hi-lites, but once a week I use Touch of Silver shampoo which is cheap as chips in Home Bargins. It keeps my hi-lites looking bright and fresh.

Doing hot cloth cleansing at bedtime and then putting a drop of lavender oil on your pillow before you go to sleep. Makes me feel pampered, and makes my skin feel plump and smooth when I wake up.

Professional bikini and leg wax every 6 weeks or so. Never have to stress about pant beard or going bare legged. Skin always silky smooth as waxing also exfoliates.

Professional OPI pedi once a month. This is my especial treat and I don't smoke and rarely drink, so that's how I justify it. So never have to worry about baring my feet as they always look good. Between times I slather foot cream on 2-3 times a week at bedtime and sleep in socks. Feet are baby soft in the morning.

Do a quick series of yoga stretches every morning as soon as I get up. Makes me feel awake and slightly more limber.

Drink Earl Grey tea with lemon. Makes me feel vair genteel and relaxed.

Let DD 'do' my hair. Brushing it. Plaiting it. She's very gentle and it's incredibly soothing.

Drink hot water with a squirt of lemon juice and a tea spoon of manuka honey in it at breakfast. Makes me feel all cleansed.

Every morning I check the straps on my bra to make sure it's sitting properly and that norks are suitably hoisted aloft. Letting your boobs droop can lose you several inches off your torso and make your waist look thick.

Every morning after shower, I slather body lotion on all over while skin is still wet. Then just let myself air dry before getting dressed. Doesn't matter how cheap the lotion is, still always have silky soft skin. I think applying it when wet seals in the moisture?

Lopsidale do you take turmeric supplements or just add the real stuff to food?

bigbuttons · 22/05/2015 20:58

Yes, I'm interested in the turmeric too. What's it good for?

DiscoDancer · 22/05/2015 21:30

Marking place

FeelMyAge · 22/05/2015 21:33

I'm also intrigued by the tumeric and the sleep and sheet masks. What are they?

chocolatespiders · 22/05/2015 21:39

I have heard turmeric is good for animals joints and also good for human brains!!!

How do I do the coconut hot face cleanse?

Thanks

DragonsCanHop · 22/05/2015 21:48

applecatcher rinsing with coconut oil? I recently bought solid coconut oil from the supermarket and using it on my legs. How do you rinse with it, melt into water?
