What cheap, quick things do you do for a boost?

After what seems like months of virus' and general life I'm beginning to feel a bit haggard and knackered.

Everyone around me seems to be bounding with energy, looking groomed and polished while I just throw any old thing on and feel like I'm dragging myself through the day. To them I probably look how they look to me, I just don't feel it!

So, what are your best cheap, quick fixes in this situation? Anything from a vitamin/super food to make up to clothes to a certain nail polish colour to a must have item of clothing (ok, so that's not going to be cheap but adding it to my NEED list and swooning over it will give me a boost!) I know I need to take better care of myself but for now I'm planning on faking it until I make it!

You rinse by putting an amount of oil into your mouth and 'pulling' it through your teeth for 20 mins. It white s teeth. the technique is called oil pulling and various oils can be used.

Eye dew for instant bright eyes
New hair colour and blow for instant wow look
Home maincure
Light coloured clothes always make me feel happier
Skinny jeans

DragonsCanHop · 22/05/2015 22:48

Thank you bigbuttons I'm enjoying using it as a moisturiser and had read about the benefit of drinking coconut water.

Coconut water tastes like blitzing bark, leaving it to sit in water for a day, draining and drinking it

I will give the oil a try tomorrow

cerealqueen · 22/05/2015 23:36

I swear by:
Omega 3,6,9 oils
jojoba oil (not an oil, but a wax, does not clog pores)
Skin cleansing brush which massages at same time - I have a Siriusonic one
Good blusher which makes you look slightly flushed like you've been for a walk - bourjois blusher tendre rose brun for me
Goos base - Revlon colourstay
Eyelash curlers
Eyebrows dyed and threaded
SLEEP!

shirleybasseyslovechild · 23/05/2015 00:29

omg you just reminded me I paid £120 to get my colours done.

total pile of crapola.

bigbuttons · 23/05/2015 07:28

dragons btw you never swallow the oil when you oil pull, Just pull and eventually spit out. Of course you can eat coconut oil off the spoon if you like ( and swallow it!). I have jars and jars of coconut oil. I have it on my toast, I cook with it. I would not use it on my face though as for quite at lot of people, not all, but a lot it can block pores and cause horrible spots. So beware if you put it on your face!

RedDwarfPosse · 23/05/2015 08:10

Have just tried the oil pulling.... It's not for me!

It's the most disgusting taste & feeling, I literally puked after just 20 seconds of having it in my mouth. I tried again but my stomach continued to wretch. I now feel SOOO ill.

It was like chewing lard until it melts into a disgusting oily mess in your mouth! Absolutely vile...How anyone can swill this around for 20 minutes must have a very strong stomach...hats off to you!

FrugalFashionista · 23/05/2015 09:00

Sheet masks are inexpensive paper or cotton cloths soaked in a hydrating liquid, here is an example. You wear them for 20 minutes or longer, the best give you instant glow. Sleeping mask is an Asian beauty routine staple, you put it on in the evening (it's not sticky) and you rinse it off in the morning. Again, smooth and glowing skin. I think the Bouncy mask at The Body Shop is like that but the Asian/Korean thread has lots of other suggestions.

Lipstick or lipgloss
I look like death without it.Grin

bigbuttons · 23/05/2015 10:11

Lol, oil pulling is not for everyone, that's for sure. I personally don't mind. I always add a couple of drops of peppermint oil to my oil, that's gives me a minty fresh feeling too.

RedDwarfPosse · 23/05/2015 10:15

It's not just the taste though bigbuttons it's the whole chewing solidified oil, anf then melting into a greasy mess that continues to expand with saliva.... eurgh eurgh EURGH!!!

So disappointed as I was looking forward to whiter teeth Sad

bigbuttons · 23/05/2015 10:19

I know, it's a texture thing. Once it mixes with the saliva it stops being so oily though. The texture is only bleugh right at the start.

ginorwine · 24/05/2015 09:17

Mine is sitting with feet in a bowl of water with face pack on !

Rjae · 24/05/2015 12:36

Sleep. Hmm

Trying to remember what that actually is.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/05/2015 14:06

getting my toenails done, and my latest is the St Tropez gradual shower tan. shower normally, wash and rinse hair, turn shower off and rub in the tanning cream all over in circles, wash hands, stand and shiver for 3 minutes then rinse it all off and voila a subtle glow that builds up the more often you do it. no mess and no orange towels or sheets!

motleymop · 24/05/2015 14:34

What us 'tightlining', lndnmummy?

motleymop · 24/05/2015 14:35

*is

FeelMyAge · 24/05/2015 15:27

A 3 minute tan?! That's the type of product I need, find tanning so time consuming by the time I've done all the prep work but look 100 times healthier with a bit of a glow.

OP posts:
Vivacia · 24/05/2015 16:10

I am very interested in this 3 minute shower-off tan. I can't seem to find the right product though (just looking on Amazon at the moment). What's the actual name of it?

Vivacia · 24/05/2015 16:11

Ah, "new and exclusive to Boots".

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/05/2015 16:29

yup theres another thread about it too here

aquashiv · 24/05/2015 18:39

Eyelash/brow shape and tint.
Lip wax.
Cuticle cream work to make me a bit less feral.
Berocca if I am feeling tired and run down.

MurielWoods · 24/05/2015 23:29

Can I recommend B12?

I'm crap at absorbing the stuff and although my levels are very low they were not low enough to convince my GP to prescribe injections.

So I took matters into my own hands and ordered my own from Germany.

Easy to self inject and I feel amazing! I have so much more energy compared to last year, the horrible dark patches have disappeared from under my eyes, I sleep better and my concentration has improved.

I'm going to be stealing lots of ideas from this thread too Grin

chocolatespiders · 25/05/2015 05:03

St Tropez gradual tan in shower lotion
Buy it in boots -14.50

Lndnmummy · 25/05/2015 09:21

Tightlining is when you apply eyeliner from underneath the lash line, you just fill in between the lash line. No steady hand needed and no straight line needed either. It makes a massive difference and instantly looks polished rather than harsh. I am forever grateful to the MUA that showed me.
