Jicky ...giving it a second chance .. Love or hate ?

Whilst impatiently waiting for my decants of Malles portrait of a lady and chanel 28 la pausA I have found a decany of Jicky I bought ages ago ! At the time I was so disappointed and couldn't get past the barn yard opening notes ! Other reviews say a lemon / lavender opening but I didn't get that and had to wash it off ! So having a lazy morning I decided to revisit it ..
At the moment it's so complex and keeps changing but I think I like it .. Not one to wear to work but more a guilty pleasure ! Might have to retry misouko .. That made me feel really nauseous initially .. Like a mix of vomit and dirty nappies ., but I really want to love it !!

I noticed my samples were between 1 and 2 ml, so fairly teeny tiny!
Although my mini Jacomo perfume was 5 ml only and lasted me a good 3 weeks more or less every day...

Itsalldramarama · 18/05/2015 19:08

Dilemma time now ! foound my decant of mitsouko and just sprayed on and oh my ! Not a hint of vomit this time ! I'm enveloped in pure heaven !!! So after deciding to treat my self with a full size jicky ( found some debenham vouchers during my search :) ) I'm torn between the two ...,

I love Jicky and have been wearing it on and off since my early 20's. I gravitate towards scents that smell slightly "dirty" and Jicky has that animal/musky type note about it after the initial dry down.

I have also started wearing unisex/masculine scents as an antidite to all those sickly sweet ones that seem to be so popular . A current favourite is La Fumee by Miller Harris, which, as the name suggests, has hints of ash tray. I loathe a lot of the modern girly scents which emulate fruit and chocolates, although when it's hot, I prefer ones that have a "green" smell like a florist's shop. I loved Eau de Givenchy, but sadly it's been discontinued.

TrulyTurtles · 18/05/2015 19:28

Oh I love Maison untitled. When it came out they were giving lots of samples out (I got 5) and I've been eking it out. Unusually for me it's not dark and dirty.

ZeroFunDame · 18/05/2015 19:31

Had you previously tried L'Air de Rien Fozzleyplum?

Fozzleyplum · 18/05/2015 19:34

I had, Zero...how did you guess? Smells of old books and attics and is right up my street. It's on my wish list!

ZeroFunDame · 18/05/2015 19:45

We clearly have the same tastes. Grin

Jeux de Peau?

Onda?

Norne? Jeke? Others I can't remember ...

(I'm somewhat devastated to find that O'Driu don't seem to have Vis et Honor on their site any more. I had been trying to decide which relative to sell to get some.)

fortunately · 18/05/2015 19:46

Ooh I've gone for it thanks to this thread! I've never really given much thought to perfume but now I'm intrigued Smile

Nose has recommended me
Maison Martin Margiela, Untitled L'eau
Come des Garçons Series 5 Sherbet Rhubarb
Etro Vicolo Fiori
Maison Francis Kurkdijan, Acqua Universalis
Acqua di Parma, Bergamotto Di Calabria

Anyone got any thoughts?

Itsalldramarama · 18/05/2015 19:50

Have you ordered them ? Still deciding ! What did you put in the diagnostic ? I put portrait of a lady , cuir de russie and jicky in that order

DrankSangriaInThePark · 18/05/2015 19:51

I've got Maison Untitled coming too....am very excited now!

fortunately · 18/05/2015 19:57

Yes I've ordered. I put in Marc Jacobs Daisy, Dior Miss Dior Cherie and Jo Malone Earl Grey and Cucumber. All quite light and fresh.

I'm a bit of a fraud as the first two my mum bought me and th least one I actually bought for a friend last weekend. I'm a bit hopeless so my mother actually finds stuff she thinks I like and buys it for birthday etc.

I need to find my own perfume personality I think! I like the idea of freesia, Penhaligons English Fern (I know it's a mans cologne!) and quite fresh, natural stuff. I also like Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin, although again it's one of my mums!

canny1234 · 18/05/2015 20:26

Acqua Universalis is a delicious 'clean' scent Fortunately.I haven't tried the others but they sound right up your street.James Heeley also has some gorgeous fresh fragrances such as Verveine d'eugenie as do Penhaligon and L'artisan Parfumeur. You can do the Nose Diagnostic more than once if you wish to help build up a more complete picture of your likes/dislikes.
I'm envious of the perfumistas who can wear the classic Guerlains.I love the perfumes in the bottle but not on me .Love Champs Elysees and most Aqua Allegories though ( rather predictably).I would love to try Jicky however because of the Lavender note.

fortunately · 18/05/2015 20:39

Ooh I can't wait till they come!

In other shocking news, I texted my friend to evangelise about my new perfumes and she has never, ever worn perfume! Never even been bought a bottle!

Which is fab actually because she's the friend I bought the Jo Malone for - I can't wait to give it to her Smile

She's also going to try my tasters and see if she likes any of them.

I've got a convert!

cressetmama · 18/05/2015 20:50

Completely love MMM Untitled. Enjoyed Etro's Greene St, but not enough to buy a bigger decant. Not thrilled with Sherbet Rhubarb, although CdG 1 is among my all time faves and also v fond of Serpentine, which is akin to MMM Untitled. Also using MMM Lazy Sunday Morning and Beach Walk quite routinely, so will out myself as an MMM fan! The other scent in the current routine is Eau d'Hiver. Still getting a pleasant waft from this morning's two squirts of Histoires de Parfums 1804, although I was looking for the Eau de Lierre Canny swapped with me last summer.

Of the classic Guerlains, only the original version of Chamade has really stuck with me; 30 years ago it was my scent for several years.

Annarose2014 · 18/05/2015 21:35

Any perfume sample site with free/low shipping? I really don't fancy spending a tenner on shipping as some want me to.

TrulyTurtles · 18/05/2015 21:56

Back to mainstream classics. I have a bottle of Chanel no 5 that someone gave my dm over 30 years ago. Never been my favourite, but gave it a splash today. My it's lovely. I know formulas change, but it's much richer and deeper than the modern one imho.

niminypiminy · 18/05/2015 22:52

I did the Nose thing a couple of times and never found one scent I actually liked, no tell a lie they did send Diptyque Philosykos which I quite liked, but everything else ranged from 'definitely no' to 'meh' to 'brings new meaning to the words nothing special'. I reckon they take no notice of what you put into the diagnostic thingy they sent me four fig fragrances when I'd put in Chamade and Farnesiana and whatever you put in it will magically select the things they are promoting

SOTD was Heely L'Amandiere. It was wet and blowy and cold and I just wanted something that would remind me of a warm, meditarranean spring day. Such a shame it is so expensive for a FB I would love to buy but no way can afford and I've never seen a decant listed on Crystal Flacon.

Itsalldramarama · 19/05/2015 10:06

Annarose- The Perfume Society send a box of samples of and postage is free. Also- you can sign up to the Fragrance Shop Discovery Club- every quarter for £5 a time you get a box of about 6 decent samples. They are usually mainstream, but still a treat to get in the post and there is no postage to pay.

You can also try this iscentyouaday.com/2015/01/13/how-to-get-perfume-samples/

Scents of the day are bleach and mould and mildew remover, but now I have a lovely clean shower, ready for new silicone sealant!

Perfumistas, my friend would like recommendations forva 'white flower' perfume....

canny1234 · 19/05/2015 19:21

La chasse aux papillon by l'artisan parfumeur is a beautiful white flower perfume. At the moment my favourite is Montale's JasminFull - smells like the Jasmine garlands I used to buy for my children in Penang's Indian town.Fragantica will yield you a list of White Flower perfumes if you click on 'notes' at the top of the page and input White Flowers.

Annarose2014 · 19/05/2015 19:37

Thank you Missbattleax!

Itsalldramarama · 19/05/2015 19:42

Well I wore mitsouko to work today and got lots of compliments ! Wow does it last !! Jicky fades quickly but mitsouko lingers .. Lasted all day with a few spritz this morning ... Think I love it more than jicky ...
