Jicky ...giving it a second chance .. Love or hate ?

Whilst impatiently waiting for my decants of Malles portrait of a lady and chanel 28 la pausA I have found a decany of Jicky I bought ages ago ! At the time I was so disappointed and couldn't get past the barn yard opening notes ! Other reviews say a lemon / lavender opening but I didn't get that and had to wash it off ! So having a lazy morning I decided to revisit it ..
At the moment it's so complex and keeps changing but I think I like it .. Not one to wear to work but more a guilty pleasure ! Might have to retry misouko .. That made me feel really nauseous initially .. Like a mix of vomit and dirty nappies ., but I really want to love it !!

I've just done it too! Grin

Never heard of the ones I'm getting either, and was v difficult deciding which three favourite perfumes to list.

Stitchintime1 · 17/05/2015 15:36

I thought it was most recently used. My favourite perfumes are very different and often only favourite because they remind me of that time in my life.

Stitchintime1 · 17/05/2015 15:37

Exciting isn't it? I love perfume so much. Do you fellow perfume lovers also love house scents? And flowers?

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/05/2015 15:41

Love flowers, not so keen on house scents, other than v natural ones - lavender, mostly. Oh, and grapefruit.

Stitchintime1 · 17/05/2015 15:42

I've just looked again at my recommended scents. There is a lot of patchouli in there. I'm a bit nervous. I don't think I like patchouli.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/05/2015 15:54

It says that when you get them you rate them on like/dislike scale and then get more recommended based on your feedback and can continue to do this.

I think it might take me quite a while tbh, as I like different types for different seasons/occasions, eg citrussy ones, like Guerlain Pampleune, in summer only.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 17/05/2015 16:03

I was a bit cheeky and only put in Chanel 19 as all time favourite, because I had a feeling that if I really put in my 5 (which would be Chanel 19, Paloma Picasso, Ysatis, Rive Gauche and (currently) Liz Earle n1) they would tell me to chug off back to the 80s and get a life. Grin

Stitch, one of my all time favourite smells is what you get on your fingers when you rub geranium leaves.

Perfume is so important. I can live with one pair of shoes and Asda jeans, but oh god, scent.....and I can almost scream sometimes when someone walks past me wearing something that transports me somewhere far away and long ago. Smile

cressetmama · 17/05/2015 16:12

Ooooh SOTD is back. Mine is CdG Serpentine, which was their seasonal for last summer, and which is similar to Maison Martin Margiela's Untitled (which I love; just bought another (2nd) decant) but slightly sharper. It's light which is better in daytime IMO, especially in spring-summer.

Nose is great; I loved them and went through a load of diagnostics. I discovered Odin's 11 Semma via them, which is great for evenings and cold weather... if you like humbugs and cough sweets. I think it might appeal to the pp who liked Ambre Russe, as that's another favourite.

Stitch I used to hate patchouli too, but it's not all horrid!

cressetmama · 17/05/2015 16:13

which-y post! Sorry perfumistas; I normally check!

Stitchintime1 · 17/05/2015 16:49

I tried it with different perfumes from longer ago and pretty much the same brands came up. Not entirely the same, but the same three over and over again.

FrugalFashionista · 17/05/2015 17:07

Sangria, I have a perfume suggestion for you: Geranium pour le Monsieur. Ignore the gender bias Wink

SOTD: acetone, removing glitter polish

CointreauVersial · 17/05/2015 17:39

LOL - glitter polish is very tedious to remove, isn't it?

SOTD is Angelique by Papillon Perfumes. I belatedly sent off for samples of their three fragrances, and this is the second one I've tried. It has pretty much disappeared already without me really noticing what it was like, which isn't a great sign. But I swooned over Tobacco Rose.

fishfingersinmysandwiches · 17/05/2015 18:04

Oooh SOTD for me is Ambre Sultan (Serge Lutens). When I first tried this perfume I disliked the heavy dose of dried herbs in the top. But I have grown to love it, and for some reason it is the only perfume I have that my kids really like too.

Stitch L'air du desert Marocain smells just like its name. Exotic, spicy, transporting, gorgeous. I don't get much rose at all. Mostly I enjoy a mixture of spices, cedar, and ambergris. I adore it.

cressetmama · 17/05/2015 18:14

Stitch, I think Nose is paid to promote by certain brands. If you go again in a month, you will possibly get a very different set of ideas and samples. If you are wondering about fragrance groups, Les Senteurs in London has a useful colour-coded guide.

MissBattleaxe · 17/05/2015 18:16

Hello everyone. So glad to see a perfume thread again!

I must say that on me, Jicky smelled like Mr Sheen. But I applaud you for going back to it OP. I once eschewed chypres, but revisited them and I am now a die hard chypre-aholic. Ditto Shalimar which I once thought smelled like petrol, but I now kind of "get" it.

Have any of you tried the Perfume Society Discovery Boxes? They are a massive treat. I get mine for between £10-£15 as I am a subscriber ( but you don't have to be to buy them) and they have all sorts of samples from hard-to-get to new releases. I'm addicted.

SOTD Papillon Angelique.

MissBattleaxe · 17/05/2015 18:18

ooh Cointreau hello Smile - and I 've just noticed you're wearing Papillon too! Liz Moores of Papillon was nominated for three FiFis. Sadly she didn't win, but to be nominated three times for your first three perfumes is pretty amazing.

cressetmama · 18/05/2015 09:17

Just bumping because I wouldn't want you to have to trawl through to find the thread! No perfume yet, it's raining here... Maybe Angelique sous la Pluie? Love the sharpness but wish it lasted better!

canny1234 · 18/05/2015 09:52

Hi Ladies - its lovely to read all about scent of the day again.
For that ladies that are new to the perfume threads Fragantica is a really useful resource for perfume chat and reviews.Nose is a really good resource for sampling initially but many companies sell sample sets quite cheaply from their Websites.
Sotd is Un zeste de Rosine by Rosine perfumes. Its a summery pale Rose with lemon on a totally cold wet day here.Maybe not the best choice!

cressetmama · 18/05/2015 10:00

Random selection of 1804 from Nose sample box. It's fizzy and somewhat fruity, and a bit of an antidote to the weather on first sniff.

Elfina · 18/05/2015 10:08

Oh god, I wear black orchid - do I smell of poo?!

missmartha · 18/05/2015 10:13

I haven't tried Nose. By the look of it I should head over straight away.

I am still basking in Jicky this am.

ZeroFunDame · 18/05/2015 10:13

Oh Lord - I hate "thing of the day", it's put me off perfume and MN Vogue threads; far too much effort.

But, just this once, because I am beyond bored waiting for a delivery; I am lightly dabbed with Rubj. And trying to work out why it always feel like "my" thing. (The Voile d'extrait that I'm wearing slightly less so than the pure perfume.) It's what I turn to most readily during Spring/Summer to cheer up an otherwise drab, distinctly unglamorous day.

FrugalFashionista · 18/05/2015 12:55

No need to do SOTDs - I have a hard time with them for a different reason, I have explored too many perfumes already. So I prefer to hang out with my favorites for weeks or months and my SoTDs tend to be really boring.

Today however I am wearing something different. It's 30C here, we went out to the hills yesterday and saw haystacks and poppies. I am wearing Eau du Sud by Annick Goutal. To me it smells exactly like a sun-baked field straight out of an impressionist painting, golden hay, herbs and fluffy white clouds - like this in other words.

No need to disclose what you are wearing but anyone is welcome to share perfume-related thoughts here.

Jicky ...giving it a second chance .. Love or hate ?
ZeroFunDame · 18/05/2015 13:14

One tiny thing: do we really have to be "laydeez"? (As a description of female contributors. I have no strong feelings about what any men on the thread might choose to call themselves.) It feels quite incongruous in a MN (or RL) context.

Itsalldramarama · 18/05/2015 13:52

These Are what the nose diagnostic recommend for me .. Anyone tried them ? Not ordered yet as not sure how big the samples are for ten dollars ?
