Mint Velvet is it the greige lovers Per Una or naice? Can't decide.

I mean I am attracted to all the grieginess and muted what-not but is it the tiniest bit Per una with a touch of the 'I've still got it in a Loose Woman stylee' sappy biker.

I am Peri-menopausal and recognised I am becoming increasingly style challenged. Not enough to consider Boden 'culottes' golf shorts a great sartorial offering, mind.

So what do you think? Am I starting down a crusty path with the greige fondness or it is stylish?

Some nice, some very Per Una chiffony naffness.

KikitheKitKat · 15/04/2015 16:06

I was surprised recently, on my first ever visit to Mint Velvet, to see how much akin to Per Una their stuff is! I didn't dislike it but it messed with my head because I had the impression that MNers collectively hated Per Una and loved Mint Velvet!

MargoReadbetter · 15/04/2015 16:06

Beautiful description. I find it the same. I feel I ought to like it more than I do because it's often mentioned on here (and where else do I look nowadays?). The prices are a bit steep and fabric care looks like it'll be an issue.

MargoReadbetter · 15/04/2015 16:08

BTW I like grey, it's on my colour palette Smile

lem73 · 15/04/2015 16:08

I have bought a couple of things from there and think in terms of quality and cut it is far better than M and S. However the monotonous colour scheme is a turn off.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/04/2015 16:09

Good analogy - it's helped me work out why I don't like Mint Velvet very much!

ChablisChic · 15/04/2015 16:10

Hm, I'm undecided, but today I have on my very favourite shirt, which is Mint Velvet. It is a very pale peach/nude colour, very fine fabric, and nice and long, but not voluminous. It suits my colouring and shape, but I also have a knitted dress from there that I've only worn a couple of times. Like any make, you can't really generalise, and it suits some people but not others.

AuntieStella · 15/04/2015 16:10

I've just had a look, and was distinctly underwhelmed.

Most the tops are either an awkward length (unless firm and flat of tummy) or sheer.

It left me wondering who the target audience is.

KissyBoo · 15/04/2015 16:39

Maybe their target market is for those twenty years away from considering Per Una 'snazzy'.

Fuck.

I'm peri-menopausal too, which rules out Mint Velvet, as it seems to be very polyester. No anti-perspirant is up to that job, believe me.

ouryve · 15/04/2015 16:42

And agree about length.

CMOTDibbler · 15/04/2015 16:43

My colleague loves Mont Velvet, and has some really lovely pieces from there. However when I look at the website it all just seems so dull.

Greengardenpixie · 15/04/2015 16:45

I dont get mint velvet either. I have one top from there. Its nice but not to die for! I dont like asymmetric hemlines. Since most of their clothes have this, i guess thats me out. The only thing i like about their stuff is their monochrome colourway!!!

MargoReadbetter · 15/04/2015 17:04

Mons Velvet

Orangeanddemons · 15/04/2015 17:07

All their dresses are sleeveless, so it's a no for me. Also the fabrics are nasty

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 15/04/2015 17:07

I liked it when it first came out but it has edged into per una territory in the last few years, for sure.

rookiemere · 15/04/2015 17:09

Ooh I nearly bought those Boden culottes Blush - hangs peri-menopausal head in shame.

rookiemere · 15/04/2015 17:10

I like the Mint velvet jeans - their skinny fit seems to work really well for me.

KissyBoo · 15/04/2015 17:14

On the plus side you stopped yourself re the Boden offering Grin

I used to love mint velvet but do find it hit and miss this season..I think they a good job of styling their clothes and the models are gorgeous so that helps! Not really per una style though, not seen much that I work expect to see at m&s

Funnytobe · 15/04/2015 17:20

The loose shapes and lack of colour do nothing for me. I think if you're tall, slim, flat chested with a cool haircut you could look good. But I am small with big boobs so not my style at all.

As for the comparison with per una, I can't see that whatsoever Confused

Oly4 · 15/04/2015 17:25

Massively overpriced for synthetic fabrics. And all that chiffon. I hate it

rookiemere · 15/04/2015 17:28

Thanks kissy .

Like most shops & brands MV has a variety of stuff. I'm not overly keen on the slouchy dresses and tops in sludgy colours, but trousers are good and some of their t-shirts and jackets are fine as well and don't scream a particular brand at me.

MilkThistle187 · 15/04/2015 17:37

I really like their jeans, they use great denim but everything else is dull, dull, dull.

madmomma · 15/04/2015 17:42

greige per una. avoid, IMHO
