Mint Velvet is it the greige lovers Per Una or naice? Can't decide.

I mean I am attracted to all the grieginess and muted what-not but is it the tiniest bit Per una with a touch of the 'I've still got it in a Loose Woman stylee' sappy biker.

I am Peri-menopausal and recognised I am becoming increasingly style challenged. Not enough to consider Boden 'culottes' golf shorts a great sartorial offering, mind.

So what do you think? Am I starting down a crusty path with the greige fondness or it is stylish?

The cotton harvests have improved, so it's not that any more. The only place that seems to do cotton is Sainsburys now. If they can do it cheaply, then there's no reason the rest of the can't.

fat Face and White Stuff manage too, but I just loathertheir stuff. But it is cotton at a reasonable price. I think the big retailers have got used to making lots of profit from polyester

ElizabethHoover · 16/04/2015 07:25

its VERY VERY Overpriced imo. Sells well on ebay. I had a plain ( grey!) silky tee that was really useful

Their shoes are often nice. But look at this www.next.co.uk/x558336s4#979430x55

mint velvet a like

burnishedsilver · 16/04/2015 11:31

I agree Orange. If there was a non profit related reason for sticking with polyester the prices should reflect the cheaper fabric. Alice Temperly is particularly bad - hundreds of pounds for 100% polyester. If I wanted polyester I'd go to Primark.

maybemyrtle · 16/04/2015 11:46

Youfarging is spot on. Last time I went in it was just like All Saints circa 2006, but in cheaper fabrics.

Gillybobs · 16/04/2015 12:54

The silk t shirts, knitwear, accessories and the shoes all suit me really well. They are all real wardrobe heroes for me. Not into the overly flouncy stuff

The three women who founded MV all came from Principles....

noddyholder · 16/04/2015 13:21

All my mates LOVE it I just can't get on with it I agree its per una but grey

ihatethecold · 16/04/2015 19:29

I bought these shoes from MV last week for a wedding I'm going to soon.
I don't ever wear heels so this was a good compromise for me.
I know they are expensive but I never spend a lot on clothes for me.
It's the only thing I've bought new and they are very comfortable.
They also had really nice ankle boots in the store.
Might have to save up!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2015 19:48

I've found something I like the look of in Per Una. Is it zimmer frames, scones & nice cups of tea from herein?

mowglik · 16/04/2015 20:15

Oo love the sound of scones and cups of tea and I'm 35 BrewCake lovely

Still don't get the per una comparison though, the styles are so different! I agree they need more colour though, their greys and mauves palette doesn't suit everyone

Everythingsgonegreen · 16/04/2015 20:17

My dizzy chum always refers to it as Mint Grey - find it dull and uninspiring.

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 16/04/2015 20:20

When they first started up, they had a lot of proper silk stuff, and the fit was good.

Now everything is polyestery, and the shape of the tops incredibly boxy.

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 16/04/2015 20:30

Arf at Turin Shroud! So true!!

GREY
Tie dye
holey knits
LONG tunics
wedgey ankle boots

they DONT LIKE
skirts
workwear
sexy

Georgina1975 · 16/04/2015 21:23

I agee with YouFarging too. Cheap and nasty material - looking at MV clothes makes me feel itchy.

nooddsocksforme · 16/04/2015 21:25

mint velvet is nothing like per una but like everywhere else some things are nice , others not. colours not good and they would sell way more if they sorted that out. lots of strong opinions -everyone has different tastes. so where do all the 40-50 earolds turning their noses up at mint velvet shop-not much out there for us lot

ElizabethHoover · 16/04/2015 21:25

I do agree that a few years ago they were much nicer.

ElizabethHoover · 16/04/2015 21:28

nodd - is that even English? Shock

Bluestocking · 16/04/2015 21:29

Inspired by this thread, I had a shimmy round the MV concession in John Lewis this afternoon and I can confirm that it is indeed The Greige Per Una. Inspired description.

ouryve · 16/04/2015 21:29

That is a really simple, pretty cardi, Remus, and I'm tempted by it. There has to be a catch. Remember when everything was teamed up on the hanger with a load of cheap beads? There has to be beads or diaante, somewhere!

ElizabethHoover · 16/04/2015 21:30

concessions are always a bit lame tbh

ouryve · 16/04/2015 21:31

Looks like she's got her skirt tucked in her knickers, fifty.

Shame, because it's not a bad dress until you get to the hem line.

nooddsocksforme · 16/04/2015 21:41

Hoover -too much wine for a thursday -been a bad week

pinkrocker · 16/04/2015 22:20

There is a buy/sell page on facebook. I can't afford anything full price right now so I've joined.

GeorginaWorsley · 16/04/2015 22:30

Sorry cannot see the likeness to per una at all.
I like some mint velvet stuff .
Especially jeans and the posh joggers they do.
They usually have a couple of jackets or cardigans that I like too plus slightly dressy tees.
Oh and I love greyGrin

I find it suits my age (48) and lifestyle.
I do think it is expensive though and I often get inspiration from their site then trawl Mango etc for similar.
its been said before on MN but there is a gap in market for slightly more 'grown up ' clothes somewhere between the polyester cruise wear of Wallis etc and the over priced Whistles Reiss etc that doesn't enter Per Una or Viyella territory imo

nooddsocksforme · 17/04/2015 21:23

i agree georgina -my rubbish post last night was trying to sat they are nothing like per una and where else is there for 45-55 years old to shop. there is a complete lack of decent shope for us
