Help me oh stylish ones, I know this Boden garment is weird and bonkers, but I'm helplessly drawn to it

You know sometimes you just see a dress or whatever and think "yes yes yes I love that!" and have to get it? Normally when that happens I know I'm onto a keeper and it will be a good buy. But even I can't deny that the Boden tunic-y dress thing I have the hots for at the moment is going to make me look like a lampshade on holiday.

here
in pink.

Please give me your HONEST opinions on this, come on both barrels I will not be upset.

It's hideous. Unless you have a figure like a supermodel, do not buy

FelixFelix · 27/03/2015 14:11

That is seriously weird. Please do not buy it. At first it looked like one of those tabbards that old ladies wear to do their cleaning, then I noticed the bogey green pom pom trim Shock

grannycake · 27/03/2015 14:12

Step away from the screen - it's frightening

hellsbellsmelons · 27/03/2015 14:12

Well if you are using it as a nightshirt or you are a dinner lady that needs to wear a tabard then you go for it! Grin

Although I have to say the model looks nice in the green version.

HoggleHoggle · 27/03/2015 14:13

Sorry, not keen here either!

Also I am so sick of Boden's prices. £60 for a thin bit of cotton with a few tassles?! I think not.

Spend the money on something else Smile

museumum · 27/03/2015 14:13

It's awful!

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 27/03/2015 14:14

Before I opened the link, I was expecting Pucci ish swirls; but it's not at all.

I really think it looks like an April Fool's trick.

But I don't think you should take the opinion of random strangers; order it and try it on, it might look great on you.

Allalonenow · 27/03/2015 14:15

Well, to me it's got the look, especially in the pink, of a 1950s housecoat as worn by "a little wife", but what do I know?
A lot will depend on the fabric and what size you are.

If you love it, get it.

youngestisapyscho · 27/03/2015 14:16

Awful... looks like an over swimwear thingy.

LizzieMint · 27/03/2015 14:17

Jeez that's the most hideous thing I've seen for ages. Yy to the dinner lady tabard look, but with lampshade trim. Wtf are boden thinking?

juniorcakeoff · 27/03/2015 14:18

It looks like one of those things you put kids in when they come out of the pool. Jesus hope the Boden buyer that thought that was a good idea is ok.

brakespeare · 27/03/2015 14:19

Oh wow. It's a no from me too. I know what they're trying to do, emulating a high fashion trend I've seen over on manrepeller, but still no. Biden should not try to emulate high fashion trims and I don't think you should either.

Unless that is, you're 23, 6 footish and rock an all over quirky look with tonnes of similar accessories, and shoes that cost the same as my monthly child care bill, in which case, go rock it!

Petal02 · 27/03/2015 14:19

I thought it was beachwear cover-up type thing?

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 14:19

Sigh. :( I was actually thinking that to indulge my love for this monstrosity, I would have to wear it as a nightdress only (poor DP).

I love pink and green together... I love the spots... I love how you can see looking at it that it's going to have that papery-crisp summer cotton feel. The bobbles just tip it over into a degree of madness that I also kind of find appealing.

Maybe I've got PMT?

brakespeare · 27/03/2015 14:19

Boden, obvs. . .

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 14:20

I'm 45, 5'10" and size 14.

I will look like an old, ginormous lampshade.

OP posts:
SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 27/03/2015 14:23

Fuck me.

Bastard love child of dinner lady's tabard, nylon housecoat and 70's lampshade is right Shock

Run away!

MonoNoAware · 27/03/2015 14:27

I know feck-all about fashion (this popped up in active) but a word of warning; if you carry your weight on your upper body or have large boobies this will look awful. If, however, you veer towards a pear shape, you might carry it off...

I speak from bitter experience after ordering a similarly shaped Boden -monstrosity-- garment last year and despite being fairly slim, looked like an oddly shaped balloon perched on two chopsticks.

spiderlight · 27/03/2015 14:30

The blurb on the page calls it a cover-up, so i don't actually think it's meant to be an actual dress at all.

GlitteringJasper · 27/03/2015 14:31

My granny used to wear one of those, over her clothes to keep them clean.

Where on earth are you planning to wear this?

LatinForTelly · 27/03/2015 14:32

I like it when the Boden models look like they're trying not to laugh.

Step away, OP! I have one Boden dress my DCs call the Toddler Dress. I still quite like it though.

ItsJustPaint · 27/03/2015 14:35

I thought it was a painting smock

But nearly collapsed at the price

60 quid Shock I think you are having s bad day love. Close the screen and forget it !

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 14:39

Brakespeare, don't worry I'm not into it in a high-fashion rip-off kind of way! I'm not under the impression people will think it's Miu miu :o

Mono I am pear-shaped! A plus point at last :)

I can see myself wafting around in this in a summery garden situation, beach holiday, etc. maybe with cropped jeans and birkenstocks. (I realise there actually IS no styling this thing, that's just the truth)

OP posts:
MollyMaDurga · 27/03/2015 14:40

I must admit i understand your strange attraction. . I'm 45 too, it may be a retro thing. But it is not a very nice garment in this case. I love a bit of seventies stuff, love Indian tunics boho style.. But this is crap, overpriced and the material looks cheap? Is not hippy enough! It needs silk, a nice cut and clearer colours. There.

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 14:59

Actually now if I did buy it, and wear it, I would totally out myself as I'd probably be the only person in the country.

MNers would come up to me in some seafront cafe and go "OMG it's YOU!" :o
