Help me oh stylish ones, I know this Boden garment is weird and bonkers, but I'm helplessly drawn to it

You know sometimes you just see a dress or whatever and think "yes yes yes I love that!" and have to get it? Normally when that happens I know I'm onto a keeper and it will be a good buy. But even I can't deny that the Boden tunic-y dress thing I have the hots for at the moment is going to make me look like a lampshade on holiday.

here
in pink.

Please give me your HONEST opinions on this, come on both barrels I will not be upset.

Dear heavens that's a shockers. If you really truly love it, wait for the clearance. Fifteen quid tops.

KissyBoo · 27/03/2015 16:31

In it's defence it does remind me of something Don Draper's wife Megan would wear poolside California from the last series whilst high as a kite

Why don't you buy some pom-pom trim and liberally adorn your clothes to satisfy the urge? Would be shit loads cheaper too and, er, creative .

No way. And I am not at all anti- Boden. In fact have many plain coloured basics and a few really nice dresses from them. But when I saw that one on site I moved quickly on, wondering who on earth would buy it.

I imagine this takes you back to your childhood in some way op?

AFingerofFudge · 27/03/2015 16:54

i love the way it says "this is no ordinary cover-up". No, it sure aint!!!

Can't you order it, take a photo of yourself in it to post on here and then send it back?? Grin

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 27/03/2015 17:06

Hahahahahah.

For a minute I thought you were serious about liking it.

RingtheBells · 27/03/2015 17:11

I'm 5'10 and size 14 and liked it as a summer top in green - not a dress, but I hadn't noticed the pompoms, which have put me off it now, i also hadn't noticed the price.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 27/03/2015 17:14

It's beach cover up, not really a dress. I like the green one! I would wear that with denim cut offs and wedges in a clashing colour. Acid yellow maybe. And big gold hoop earrings.
Not for 60 squid tho.

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 17:14

"This is no ordinary cover-up. We’ve added a contrast pom-pom trim and a drawstring waist for added style credentials."

I think whoever wrote this was also trying not to laugh!

But anyway, I've ordered it. I can't not now! I'll report back, and thanks to all your wise words of advice, I'll try not to be too disappointed if it makes me look like a total twat. Not sure about posting a picture, I've never done THAT before.

Malice, yes I have quirky taste and I love bright colours. I have some out-there things that I know really work and I get loads of compliments on, but I know there's a flip side and I have purchased some horrors in my time.

I'm not keen on it, but judging on reactions here it is bound to end up in clearance. If you haven't been put off by all of us you could hold off until then and buy it for a fraction of the original price. You could wear it when you wash the dog or something.

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 17:15

(Didn't pay 60 quid as there's 25% off. And it looks like I'll be returning it, so it will in fact be free :))

OP posts:
RingtheBells · 27/03/2015 17:15

25% off if you put in the code 'eggs'

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 17:16

Shit I'll have to get a dog.

pinkfrocks · 27/03/2015 17:21

It's NOT a dress. It's in the section for tunics and kaftans, so it's for wearing on the beach over your shorts or cozzie.

nochocolateforlentteacake · 27/03/2015 17:26

Are they tassels or weeny pop poms around the edge? Is johnny letting his 4 year old design his frocks now?

But if you are drop dead gorgeous, 6 foot 2, 8 stone wet through, long of limb, golden tanned and have the face of an Angel, then wait a while as it most definitely will be discounted.

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 17:26

Hmm well but there are quite a lot of things in that section that I would wear with rolled-up jeans (being tall, they will be more like long tops on me).

OP posts:
slithytove · 27/03/2015 17:27

Can't you wear it as a beach/pool cover up?

Life is too short, if you love it, buy it!

MagentaMouflon · 27/03/2015 17:28

(Except I wouldn't because I don't like most Boden prints, but some I would. I love this in yellow but can't justify it because I already have a similar yellow dress.)

OP posts:
Shockers · 27/03/2015 17:33

I quite like the green, it reminds me of something I had as a child.

I won't order it though because I no longer look childlike and winsome... more knackered and gruesome.

BettyNettle · 27/03/2015 21:51

Not my style at all. If you like it get it, but it is definitely a garden/beach/poolside outfit...

BettyNettle · 27/03/2015 21:57

Oh I see you already got it. Well, I'm sure you'll have some fun while wearing it!

MrsGuyGarvey · 28/03/2015 10:08

I love bonkers, I adore mid century style - this dress is an abomination, no, not never.

mammuzzamia · 28/03/2015 10:15

1980s cleaners tabard. Looks suspiciously like polyester too (even if it actually isn't)
