At last! I get to use my thread title.

Over here, my hags.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/04/2015 21:38

Where's OPM?

Blackduck · 04/04/2015 21:39

Home. A bit Hmm. Need thinking time re DMum. And some downtime.

bigTillyMint · 04/04/2015 21:50

Sympathies BD - is it something like my mum?

Have heard from Cremo who sends her love and is missing everyone, but is a bit snowed under in RL.

Oh good about Cremo. Lots of love to you if you are reading Crem, and hope everything is OKish.

BTM, hope you feel better.

There is a really sad thing at London Zoo (I think) where they tell the life stories of some gorillas. Is Sad and Shock - and I am someone who never donates to animal charities.

Things were different in the olden days - absolutely, Stropps. I sometimes feel like I am on tape saying that as (kind, good) people tell me all about how UCCA worked, how there were no university open days, how their parents didn't know what GCSEs they were doing. I want to shout "memory is fallible and comparisons with Mars unhelpful". It really doesn't help anyone work out how best to support our teens in the here and now.

Happy Easter, hags.

wilbur · 04/04/2015 23:29

Happy Easter, all! Just about to head bedwards but thought I would check in. That's excellent about your AA man, Rudy, although not about the broken car - will it be a pain to fix? I have made simnel cake, flapjacks and scones today. We've eaten all the scones, I have to finish the cake topping tomorrow and flapjacks are to take to MIL as she is having the children for most of next week. If I come down tomorrow and find the mice have been at them, I will go very shouty crackers indeed.

And welcome Barbarella - I have both double chin and wobbly neck issues. If there was a non-invasive, inexpensive way of dealing with it, I would be first in line. Presumably though, you are lounging about in one of these outfits so I imagine you don't need to worry about people looking at your neck. Grin

Very best for Pesach, Rose & other celebrants of Passover, hope you have some lovely dinners this week. I'm quite excited that I will be in NY during Passover, although sadly not invited to any feasts. I will eat a lot of kosher pickles in solidarity.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/04/2015 00:52

I spent Pesach in Israel in 1997 when I was working there. Went to some very, very secular friends who lived on a moshav in the middle of nowhere, and got spectacularly lost getting there. Their daughter had made gefilte fish - "What did you make these for? Nobody likes gefilte fish!" And lots of screaming in Hebrew. We ate the gefilte fish - "See, Tamar, no-one likes them, we're just doing it to be nice, nu?" We ate a revolting "cake" made out of matzot and chocolate - "You complain about my gefilte fish? This is disgusting and I'm not eating it!" More screaming. THen "We have to read from the Haggadah, but only a bit, the smallest bit, just the essentials." An hour later, after much reading of the Haggadah, we still hadn't found the bit deemed "essential". There was more yelling and the Haggadah got thrown out of the door. I couldn't even drink, as I was driving back to Tel Aviv afterwards.

MontserratCaballe · 05/04/2015 08:14

Happy Easter Crepes and very best wishes for Passover, lovely Rose.

Easter bunny put eggs down and waiting for children to be unleashed. Then driving to Peterborough to see MIL. I'm not sure the Lord was at His best when He created Peterborough. Expect the gin consumption to go right up.

I'm in West Wittering, Rose, but leaving this am sadly.

Blackduck · 05/04/2015 08:43

Happy Easter all.

Yes BTM - I think similar to your mum, but combined with the physical issues posts stroke too.
It's pretty grim, and my DDad is not the most patient of individuals...

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2015 08:52

Happy Easter and Passover!

Sympathies, BD. I can see why your DDad is getting frustrated though - it's not easy when they are forgetting/confused, etc. And with the physical stuff too. And when you are not nearby. Has she been assessed at all yet?

Rosebag · 05/04/2015 10:52

Thanks wilbur tilly. We are done with the feasting now. Very convivial last night here with friends and lots of singing, laughter, eating, a Skype link to friend's DD who is at Uni abroad. Gosh MrsS ...we've never had a Seder like that! We laugh and joke all the way through, particularly as DS2 has a Spanish Haggadah and insists on reading in Spanish with hilarious results
( Pharoah= Faraon ) and not a gefilte fish in sight. BFF made a wonderful chocolate mousse cake for dessert but there are some weird matzo concoctions which masquerade as cakes and taste vile. Not in this house though. My DM did make one Passover pudding one year which was supposed to be like a non bread, bread and butter pudding...it was a spectacular fail and thereafter called "lumpen pudding" Grin

We are now slightly hung over and recovering hopefully sufficiently to go off to the coast tomorrow for a few days.

Glad the AA man rescued all of you, rudy
monty shame....were your folks ok?

tilly or others in touch with cremo please send best wishes from moi.

beachyhead · 05/04/2015 11:03

Happy Easter and Passover from here too. Thanks for all your wishes for dd2. She finished being sick at 5am when I heard others getting up! She's all recovered now.
We went to see the orangutans this morning and did a jungle walk. Frankly the sweat being produced was cheaper than the spa, so well worth it.
It's very very hot here , so less sun bathing and more shade bathing.
I'm trying to persuade dh to hire a car for exploring, but I suspect it may not be a jolly family day out Smile

Barbarella · 05/04/2015 11:34

Hello everyone, happy easter/Sunday/whatever

How sad about the gorillas. I like Bristol zoo too, I've been a couple of times.

Wilbur, how did you find that photo of me? Grin Ha ha. I tidied Dh's bedside table last week and found a photo of me from 2001 in a black leather dress - I was thin! I feel sorry for dh really, those were the days! But I wonder if we'll look back and think "we looked ok really" (probably)

We have people here at 1pm for lunch and all veg are prepped already :smug:

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Real Housewives, was worried I'd be run off the thread for unsisterly and unfeminist comparisons to rich bonkers plastic women, phew!

motherinferior · 05/04/2015 11:48

Happy Easter all. I am totally exhausted and have retired back under the covers. DD1 is meeting a v sweet friend, DP has gone out to buy Meat as veggie DD1 is out to lunch (so to speak) and DD2 is researching Syrian hamsters. She has practically worn DP down in her campaign for one. (She swears she will keep it away from the cats.) As you can see we don't really 'do' Easter though I plan to make a nice curry later. I must also see if I can manage to write a bit. I live in terror of this being a Great Abandoned Project.

CointreauVersial · 05/04/2015 12:52

Happy Easter!

Am in Woking.

Happy Easter!

QueenQueenie · 05/04/2015 14:58

Happy Easter and Pasach to all, we have family tradition of Lindt chocolate bunnies and a special lunch but no religious overtones for us...
It's bloody freezing here - have just made a real fire, it's that cold.

motherinferior · 05/04/2015 15:53

I have dug my 1,000 out of the cliff-face and am going to make curry and drink pink prosecco Grin

QueenQueenie · 05/04/2015 16:26

That sounds divine MI - as you know I am v partial to pink prosecco / cava / champagne... and I love a good curry but am banned from serving up curry for family supper by my little darlings... what can you do?

QueenQueenie · 05/04/2015 16:26

Forgot to add WELL DONE on the 1,000 words. Cheers!

Auriga · 06/04/2015 07:55

Yes well done MI Grin

Emily Rose, the Bonnards made me want to go to St Tropez. Especially the one of the harbour.

MrsS, thanks for recommending Chartier, we loved it.

Sunny again today, going to Beaubourg then home. Interested to see what DD makes of Jeff Koons.

I am feeling better!

But I have just had DM on the phone in a twist because she has had a letter from her doctor about the Power of Attorney - they were supposed to contact me FFSAngry

motherinferior · 06/04/2015 12:02

Words on page. DD1 out. Feel need to rouse remaining fellow-inmates.
