At last! I get to use my thread title.

Over here, my hags.

So I'm the third crepey to have just finished The Miniaturist! I loved it, and agree about the film, CV. Weren't you both - CV and Beachy - also reading H is for Hawk? (Also loved.) And I read Elizabeth is Missing not so long ago, but found that claustrophobic and a bit unsatisfactory; I kind of object to novels hung awkwardly on topical ishoos (dementia in this case).

Very happy memories of Cromer here. Dh won't indulge my love of the Norfolk coast. Angry

motherinferior · 11/04/2015 13:12

I am not commenting on CromerGrin. Suffice it to say it was the boondocks even to those of us in Norwich - we were headily metropolitan by comparison.

I scored a review copy of Hawk and loved it.

Have made a break for freedom and am going to V&A under tenuous claim to be doing 'research'. Both Inferiorettes have parties. Their father alleges he will join me later for cake but should he be unable to manage this I will bravely manage alone.

beachyhead · 11/04/2015 14:17

I did read H is for Hawk as well on hols. I did love it, but I found it a bit self indulgent. I felt I was reading an English Lit degree thesis Smile

Waves back to Rose. Yes, she had her thyroid out, she also had some masses in her lungs, which seem to have gone following the treatment.

I think it's fair to say that Dylan is not attempting to have a friendly chat with the hedgehogs. There appears to be a bit of throwing them around like a football, but I think the end intention is to eat them...I'm not sure he'll learn , but other than an orchestrated hedgehog relocation programme, I'm not sure what to do!

We were all up (including teens) by 645am this morning! Lovely jet lag....it's amazing what you can get done!

Blackduck · 11/04/2015 14:26

Four for The Minitaurist - I loved it too.
Stropps have a medium in the Uniqlo jacket and its snug... Think they are cut small (unlike some of their other stuff)

Good news on mil Beachy.

Here summer hol flight - Tanzania/Zanzibar is booked.... Eek.......

I remember walking in Cromer and being blown away - that was a lifetime ago too BTM...

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2015 15:07

BD, how exciting! We went -last trip BC. Climbed Kilimanjaro, Safari, Dar and then Zanzibar (then back via Mombassa IIRC!) What have you got planned?

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2015 15:09

Do you get lots of hedgehogs there, Beachy? Townie Alert! He is something else, isn't he!

MollyAir · 11/04/2015 15:38

Golly, exciting holiday plans! Dd has decided we must go to Switzerland. Near the Matterhorn is a St Bernard dog place which is probably a must. Any recommendations otherwise?

H is for Hawk is indulgent. I think there was a huge risk of it being totally awful but she managed to swing it. What a risk.

Stropperella · 11/04/2015 17:30

Have just blubbed copiously watching the Women's Boat Race.

motherinferior · 11/04/2015 17:55

Stropps, CV - F's daughter is in that team!

Stropperella · 11/04/2015 18:34

MI, I know, I saw OPM's post on FB. Made me cry even more. My dad was a big rower (well, a very small one really - he coxed) and all of his university team were friends until they died. The Boat Race was a big thing every year when I was growing up and even when I was quite young, I always thought something along the lines of "Why just the men??".

Stropperella · 11/04/2015 18:36

Beachy, watch out - my old dog liked to collect hedgehogs and hide them in places until he could "deal" with them. The spines never deterred him, they just made him more ragey. Whereas current dog just goes "ooh, spiney, no thanks". Sensible little fellow.

herbaceous · 11/04/2015 19:57

Have returned from Bracknell. Nearly nodded off on the M25. Am about to enter persistent vegetative state on the settee. Only bad news is our digibox isn't working, so no catching up with Masterchef for me...

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 11/04/2015 21:12

Yay to Oxford's slam dunk in the boat race. Grin Grin Whoop whoop.

And wow, MI, didn't know about F's DD! I don't remember F being hugely sporty (but I may be doing her a disservice).

We are on our way home. Sad DH and I will definitely be back...alone. DB's little holiday barn was extremely comfortable.

Today was fun - we took the DDs to an amazing glass blowing place; they both made little tea light holders, which are being posted on to us once they've "annealed" in the kiln; we watched all sorts of glassy things being crafted, and I spent far too much in the gift shop - beautiful stuff.

lalsy · 11/04/2015 21:53

Dull question: Stropps, what sort are your new trainers? I do agree about seriously clumpy and supportive shoes - I have loads more energy and fewer creaks wearing trainers most days so have decided to explore all options and stock up. I am not sure what to do about summer though.

Stropperella · 11/04/2015 22:50

Lalsy, they are Salomon XA Pro 3D and frankly possibly the most comfortable thing I have ever worn on my feet - and I am a lifelong lover of sensible shoes. They were (by my standards) terribly expensive, but I got a hefty "mates' rates" discount as I know the shop owner (one of the benefits of small town life) and so they cost me about the same as 2.5 physio sessions. I have worn them all the time since I got them. Even though they are an alarming shade of electric blue (my fault for finding black ones dull) but are jazzing up my dog-walking. They are also waterproof, which is handy as my wellies have just developed a hole.

Thanks, Herbs and BD for your words of wisdom re: Uniqlo sizing. I don't have the money for one of those coats, but I was idly speculating... I have already had to raid the emergency fund to buy the clown shoes.

Stropperella · 11/04/2015 22:53

Hmm, the sense of that post fell apart a bit in one sentence (crap proofreading), but I'm sure you get my drift. :)
CV, sounds as though you had a very nice break, teen grumpiness notwithstanding.

CointreauVersial · 11/04/2015 23:19

Nearing the end of the thread, crepesters....

I'm not sure I have any inspirational titles up my sleeve (none that don't involve foul teenage offspring anyway).

Keep On Crepeing On...? (or is it Creping?)

The good news is we made it home in 2hrs 10mins. Shock We are all basking in the heaven that is unlimited WiFi.

MollyAir · 12/04/2015 00:12

Drapes for crepes? Japes by crepes in drapes...apes for crepes...

Apey japey crepey drapeys

MollyAir · 12/04/2015 02:01

Kickass Crepeys tame their teens and other daemons

beachyhead · 12/04/2015 07:27

Why is it frosty this morning? It's mid April!

I had visions all last night of Stropps old dog building a Leaning Tower of Hedgehogs, stuck together like stickle bricks and saying in a menacing Bob Hoskins voice, 'you can stay there until I deal with you' Smile
