My face attachment has a red tinged plastic rectangle but my body attachment just has a rectangular gap, should it have a plastic part in the centre too??

Far too early to tell. It took well over a full week for me to start seeing any drop out and it's only been a handful of them to date (no pun intended)

MewlingQuim · 19/04/2015 17:59

I think it's too early to tell if you only used it yesterday.

I love my lumea. I used to have the 5 o'clock shadow on my legs and the ingrowing hairs in my bikini line ouch but no more. Now if someone suggests going swimming I just go, I don't even check for hairs because I know there won't be any visible ones Grin

ZolaBuddleia · 19/04/2015 18:09

I had IPL at a salon on my upper lip, and it did nothing, would a home IPL machine be any different, do you think? Lasering is SOOOOOOO expensive.

Zorion · 19/04/2015 18:54

Thank you! I don't really understand the science so was already feeling nervous about spending so much.

And (a little TMI) having shaven my undercarriage I have a horrible itch which I'm hoping won't last too long?!)

barbidou · 19/04/2015 20:48

I've been using mine weekly, done it around 5 times now. There is still hair growing back, but there are also noticeable hair free areas, and it takes a lot longer to get stubbly. I shaved my legs just over 24 hours ago, and they are still fairly smooth, whereas in the past they would feel rough and stubbly after 12 hours or so! Keep going with it, it does take a while.

Not sure what you mean about the itch... you mean an itch from shaving there or you think the lumea has made it itch? My bikini line is always really uncomfortable when it grows back after shaving - not done much work with the Lumea there yet Grin

Zorion · 19/04/2015 21:20

no, its a shaving itch! I guess I have to put up with it!

The other thing is - I was impatient and went over my small ankle tattoo before reading not to go over tattoos, and the tattoo has now.. sort of... bubbled. After a lot of googling I think it's going to be ok if I don't do it again!!

TartanTrousers · 20/04/2015 06:42

When I shave my legs, I normally get stubbly by the end of the day...it's the next day and after only one use I'm still smooth!!

Why didn't I buy this years ago?!

Armpits not so much mind...

ForSaleChesterDraws · 20/04/2015 07:17

Zorion next time you zap colour your tattoo in with the white eyeliner and try and avoid zapping over it.

HellKitty · 20/04/2015 08:06

Oh I'm joining you!
Did my second Lumea on Saturday. Pale skin/black hair so I have mine at 5. The tops of my thighs feel smoother already, even straight after a shave it would feel 'prickly'. And my underarms seem to be disappearing. DP was stroking then the other night and mentioned how smooth it felt, also looks like it doesn't have the 'shadow' underneath.

Be careful about trimming hairs instead of shaving. I'd missed a bit on my underarms the first time and MAN that nipped! With a faint waft of burnt hair for a few hours too Confused

lowcrabdiet · 20/04/2015 11:00

i have a shaving question... do you have to shave or can you use a hair removal cream instead?

Years ago I went for a consult at a salon for ipl and they recommended using immac (or the like) in between sessions

Has anyone tried that with the lumea. I have awful facial hair and really want a lumea but am so afraid of shaving my chinnychinchin

HellKitty · 20/04/2015 11:02

I think you can use immac, I'm almost positive it says so in the instructions! Hopefully someone else can confirm.

I had ipl years ago too, they'd recommend it after waxing. No wonder it didn't work.

SnoringMonkeys · 20/04/2015 11:43

The instructions manual says nothing about hair removing cream. It just say shave the hair.

Hair removing creams work by breaking down the keratin in the hair so it breaks up into bits down to the follicle. I guess you need hair under the skin so the hair root can be zapped appropriately so it's best to shave. For my upper lip and chin, I put on loads of cream and then glided the razor over the hair gently. Shouldn't take more than a few sweeps. I had 4 thick black hairs in one area of my chin that I haven't seen for months now. I love my lumea!

HellKitty · 20/04/2015 12:01

Thanks for confirming monkeys! I was toying with trying immac myself so at least I know not to.

(DP helpfully threw my manual out..)

poppym12 · 20/04/2015 12:20

on page 16 of my lumea compact user guide, for preparation, it says:

do not use depilatory creams instead of shaving. if you remove hairs by the root with another depilation method (eg waxing or an epilator), you can start treatment immediately.

on page 25, troubleshooting, it says that if shaving causes skin irritation, trim hairs as short as possible and use the appliance at a comfortable setting.

hmmmmm.......i've trimmed the face hairs as i really don't want to shave it but i'm thinking i may well carry on waxing it then whizz the lumea over it.

ouryve · 20/04/2015 12:26

I've given my lower legs 2 goes, now - it's over a week since I did my second treatment and my legs look like they used to about 26 hours after shaving. There's still some stubborn patches on places like my shin bones, which are harder to blast evenly without contorting myself, but there's a definite improvement.

I managed to singe a rough, scabby bit of knee, last time I did it, mind!

ouryve · 20/04/2015 12:26

36 hours. 26 looks like a number I pulled out of thin air!

Zorion · 20/04/2015 12:28

If anyone is going to Spain on holiday soon, mine worked out about £100 cheaper on amazon.es than amazon.co.uk, or in MediaMarkt or the Hypermarket.

Twiggy71 · 20/04/2015 13:15

Just seen this and feel excited I have PCOS too and have so much excess black hair everywhere. I had treatment for laser hair removal a couple of years ago and got rid of a lot of the hair but due to having PCOS it has grown back again.
Has anyone else with PCOS used this and had any luck with it, I have concerns whether it will be strong enough. Thanks

barbidou · 05/05/2015 18:00

How's everyone getting on? My lower legs are pretty good after 6 or 7 attempts. Inner and back of thighs not as good, probably because I can't contort myself to see the back of my legs very well! Bikini line also no change yet but only done that around 3 times.

Pleased with the results so far though.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/05/2015 18:26

Ive just ordered a compact one. My legs are a bit hairy at the minute. Will I be able to use it on slightly longish hair, should I shave them now or just leave them?

SnoringMonkeys · 05/05/2015 20:34

Glad it's going well barbidou!

viva I'd wait until you get the machine then shave before you zap. The zapping is wasted on long hair because it'll just singe the ends. You need the light to get to the root of the hair.

I had hair on my fingers (yes I'm a freak) that are now growing back so fine I just pull them out. This is a life changing gadget. Using it since December and no side effects as of yet! Have probably only charged it fully twice since December too!

Zorion · 06/05/2015 10:24

I've had 3 goes so far, the bikini line is looking good, underarms I think are fine, but I've never been that hairy there. The place I really want it to work, my lower legs, doesn't seem any different yet, except for instead of smooth epilation legs I now have the permanent 5.00 shadow and nasty itching from shaving. I hope it works soon...!

barbidou · 06/05/2015 11:38

SnoringMonkeys - why didn't we get one of these sooner eh? I have some random body parts that I have yet to use the Lumea on e.g. around my belly button Blush - but saving those for after my main areas are mostly done. How on earth have you only charged it twice?! Perhaps we have different versions.

Hopefully you will see a difference in your lower legs soon Zorion - sounds promising if it is working on other areas?

EuphemiaCoxton · 06/05/2015 14:42

I've just ordered mine from argos, over £50 off

Zorion · 07/05/2015 09:08

Hopefully! I am very impatient and not used to beauty regimes without instant results, it is why I can never keep up a good skincare or diet regime! BUT.... it will be worth if I can get through summer with no shaving nicks or waiting for them to be long enough to epilate, then ingrown hairs..... you name it! I live in Spain so have my legs out a lot and people are always asking "what happened?" about the various wounds...
