My face attachment has a red tinged plastic rectangle but my body attachment just has a rectangular gap, should it have a plastic part in the centre too??

Thank you snoring -fuck it, I am going to buy it!!!

Just ordered mine after years of my general hairiness getting me down! I have very pale skin and very dark (also quite thick) leg hair. I hope it won't struggle with the thickness of the hairs. This is my last ditch attempt at hair removal before I shell out the big bucks on laser at a salon.

White eyeliner for guidelines and colouring in moles is a good tip (also thought about putting a little sticky label over the moles, not sure if that would work). Any other tips from those who have seen good results? I wish it was possible to use this without shaving first as I hate shaving - my hair is so thick that everything just gets really irritated if I shave more than once every few days. But hopefully it will be worth it.

barbidou I found the thicker hairs on my chin responded better than the thin ones. Infact those horrible annoying thick rooted chin hairs haven't had a regrowth since my first zap.
My bikini area also has thick hairs and they're a bit tougher but I'm almost there after 3 months.

Good luck!

Thanks SnoringMonkeys - there is hope then! I bought the one without the facial attachment for now as it was cheaper, and I would only really want to use it between my brows which the instructions say it shouldn't be used for (probably fair enough, don't want to blind myself...)

Can anyone check to see if you can use one if you are tanned and dark haired? Tanned as in Mediterranean, thanks. I really want one.....

This is a skin chart they have on the box Disco, looks like it should still work for you. My skin is light-medium brown with black hair and it works brilliantly on me.

Has anyone done their bikini area with the lumea? I got one today and have done my underarms but it did sting a bit so I'm scared of doing the bikini area

Watching with interest. Years of battling hair everywhere. Am pale with dark hair too. Considering saving up for this.
but my question is... given the major pallor... is 'sunburn' an issue with these machines? My skin is generally really sensitive to sunlight.
Also given cramped space we live in, is the machine noisy at all? DS sleeps incredibly lightly.

Had a go with mine yesterday for the first time. I did a quick patch test the day before - I too am very pale and burn just thinking about the sun! But even though it felt a bit hot and stingy while I was doing it, my skin seems fine. I avoided any moles too.

No noise except a bit of whirring which I can't imagine bothering anyone (similar to a laptop when the fan comes on). The flash is very bright as others have said - I did it in a bright sunny room but still tended to cover my eyes!

Anyone know if this is cheaper in USA or Canada?

Also, its on offer at boots £150 off, why so much off it? Is it a poor model?

Report
IloveChoo · 09/03/2015 12:26

and finally is the new compact model any good as its way cheaper?

Report
DiscoDancer · 09/03/2015 23:11

Oh that boots offer is good? Wonder if there is a new one coming out hence the price drop?

I wonder if all the reductions are because the new conpact version is being launched for £200 which does both body & face. Less flashes, 100k v 140k (i think) but half the price?

snoring I am a bit confused about how you can have the latest one but not the precision plus. I spent aaaages researching it before I bought mine, and it seems like all the most recent ones had it (2003, 2006, 2008) -it's basically just a facial attachment, and worth it I think, although if you're not going to use it on your face, then obviously not. The 1999 and 2004 don't have it, but they are quite old now (those are model numbers and not the year they were released btw).

Ilovechoo - I think the one on offer at boots is the main one sold atm (2006/11) - as far as I know it hasn't been sold for the rrp of £450 for years, maybe when it first came out. I watched it on boots and amazon for a while and it varied between £295 & £350 each week on both. It only quotes that price so the deal looks better!

I have that one and paid £295 for it and am really pleased with it, but I would probably buy the cheaper compact one now if I were to buy it again, and save £100. The only difference seems to be the number of flashes (but then again will it last for 5 years anyway?) and it does seem to take slightly longer than the larger model.

There is a link at the bottom here which compares the recent models
www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SC2006-11-Precision-Removal/dp/B00IJX7530/ref=sr_ob_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1426014548&sr=8-5&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

I also got mine through topcashback, and used boots vouchers, so got back an extra £20 and then £10 or so more in boots points, if that's any use to anyone!

And whichever model you go for I would definitely recommend!

Anotherone I do have the facial attachment but not the bikini area attachment. I think they released two versions with the same number of shots (>140,000). Mine is the SC2006/11 version and the bikini one is SC2008/11. I tried looking for the precision plus with the bikini area attachment in November/December and it wasn't being sold anywhere and assumed they'd stopped making it.

I use the body attachment for my bikini area because it covers a larger area and gets done quicker!

If anyone wants the compact model, you can get it for £126 and free postage if you stack 2 codes on the Philips website -

Oh yeah - and another 8% Topcashback (hopefully)

HalfSpamHalfBrisket I love you! Just ordered the new compact version for £126.. popped into Boots today and as far as I can tell the new compact is replacing the other model as it does face and body and lasts 4 years v 5 years, so not a major loss.. just couldn't bring myself to spend £200!

thank you! Flowers

Glad I saw this thread. I still have my thick winter coat, but I intend to start shedding it before the Easter holidays.

White eyeliner. Must get some!

I've bought one of these since reading this thread a few weeks ago, and zapped myself according to the instructions last week. I have dark hair and fair skin.
At the moment the hairs seem just the same as usual under my arms and haven't fallen out at all. Did I use too low a setting? I did 4 on legs and 3 under arms I think...

Just an update, my compact version arrived and its fab. Very light, easy to handle, comfy to hold and i did my legs this morning pre school run and it only took about 15-20 mins with the flash & slide action...

Only question is i'm suprised it doesn't come with protective glasses as the flash is very bright - even with it pressed on a leg... will wear my sunnies next time!
