karbea Flowers for you.

Karbea · 01/01/2015 22:15

santamaria I agree about throwing everything out, I really want to start again with my wardrobe. A pinterest article I just read, said about doing a wardrobe clear out if you look at something you should ask yourself if this was for sale now, would you still buy it? I'd answer no to 90% of my wardrobe.

shopafrolic · 01/01/2015 22:19

The wardrobe edit I did was the best thing ever Karbea Flowers for you

OneLittleLady · 01/01/2015 22:25

karbea - my life and wardrobe changed drastically when the disease I have spread like wildfire and is now in most of my body. Whereas before I loved zips and buttons and all manner of quirky fastenings and details, I can't make them work for me now. Now it's all about how easily I can get things on and off by myself as I don't always have someone able to help me. even my socks have changed from knee high sparkly things with frills and bows to big thick thermal things I can put on with one hand. I found myself again, with quirky patterns and colours, I could lose the other stuff and make new stuff work. You will find yourself again, you've got a big thing to adjust to, it's not easy but you will find yourself Thanks

bettykt · 01/01/2015 22:27

Mara Spiral is back on Jan 10th BBC4 at 9pm. I'll be glued and trying not to read the subtitles Grin Your NYE sounds wonderful.

I too haven't had my colours done, I'm curious but I quite like the lack of colours I wear. I wear gold and silver and think both look equally fine. Hence I couldn't say what season you would be Liberty as I haven't got a clue.

Karbea I have gone from working pre dc to being a SAHM and only this last year I have come to grips with my casual uniform. I wore a SAHM uniform of Converse and boot cuts for years but last year I decided I wanted to get back a bit of me and how I used to dress,i.e. better quality clothes in plain colours. I also started wearing all my best stuff everyday too.

Karbea · 01/01/2015 22:34

Thank you so much for everything you've all said, it's really appreciated.

onelittlelady life can be such a challenge can't it, you think you're a heading in one direction and then boom! Everything changes. The thing is making it work and making you the best you can be. I'm sure some people think clothes/shoes/bags are just superficial but in reality they are the most important thing we have, like it or not what we wear and what we look like determines how others see and treat us. If you look good, you feel better.

bettykt · 01/01/2015 22:35

Karbea just read your previous post Flowers

Santa you speak a lot of sense

bettykt · 01/01/2015 22:36

Lovely message One

Cranagh · 01/01/2015 22:39

I loved Spirals, great there is a new series.

Karbea, I'm sorry about the IVF.

Betty, I was told both silver and gold looked fine on me, which was good news but then most of my jewelry got stolen anyway!

Colour analysis doesn't appeal to everyone (and the style day doesn't to me though everyone who does it swears by it) but at the very least it will give you ideas of new colours to try.

libertychick · 01/01/2015 22:40

Hugs for you karbea.

MarshaBrady · 01/01/2015 22:44

I love all these long posts and will come back tomorrow but just want to say

Big hug Karbea

One lovely post

OneLittleLady · 01/01/2015 22:46

Karbea they may be superficial to some but they are important, you are right, they are the first thing people see about us. Until someone speaks to us they judge us purely on what they see in front of them. Sometimes, it's about more than the skirt, or the red cardigan, it's about how it makes you see yourself and the way you perceive you.

Karbea · 01/01/2015 22:48

onelittlelady exactly!

santamarianovella · 01/01/2015 23:35

Really sorry about the IVfs karbea,

I don't think clothes are superficial at all, they are a reflection of yourself, and it tells a lot about a person, anyone who says they dont care about clothes,or how they look, have the same outlook in all aspects of life.
For instance :
shop described her self perfectly with the her leather leggings and red lipstick waiting for the Bin lorry with some cookies, Grin, it's just so her, perfectly put together no matter what the circumstances are.

And one tees always make me smile, it really shows that you are an optimist and a fighter one, someone who won't back down.

I will think about the rest of you tomorrow,my brain is shutting down, was woken up by dd,at 6 am, I tried putting her to bed late tonight,so she can sleep a bit later.
Night all!

And I think I will start watching spiral, till GOT or HOc are back on, thanks for tip betty,

Drywhiteplease · 02/01/2015 00:47

karbea you're in the right place here. Clothes are important to some, less so to others. For me I feel rubbish if I'm not put together, hair and make up everyday......my clothes make me me and call that sad if you like, I'm cool with that.
I've never been clear what the SAHM look is really. I think what is important to find a way of dressing that makes you happy and feel confident.
So sorry about your IVFs...
Not sure my ramble is at all helpful.

QueenCardigan · 02/01/2015 07:49

Morning all. karbea you're in the right lace here. None of us think clothes are superficial and they really do make a difference to how you feel about yourself. The casual wardrobe when you're at home a lot (sahm or not) is really difficult. It's easy to let yourself go and resign yourself to a life of fleeces and sweatpants because you're not seeing anyone or doing anything. As someone else said its about not saving stuff for best and wearing the good stuff every day but this can be a hard mindset to change. If you're comfortable in dresses then there's no reason why you can't continue to wear them ( although you may struggle with heels for dog walking Wink). We will help you through this Smile.

Fedupnagging · 02/01/2015 08:41

Some great posts yesterday ladies.

Karbea Flowers for you and sorry to hear about your ivf.

Hi to Muddling, you will get lots of good advice on here. Did you say you were on pinterest?

I have definitely smartened up my off duty wardrobe in recent years and this has come from, I think, confidence with age, dc's are older so less messy in theory and more time to spend on myself.

Probably won't manage to do dry January -no self control! But will definitely cut back drastically. Will also try to limit carbs and sugar too. Queen, how on earth did you manage to cut sugar completely?

shopafrolic · 02/01/2015 10:07

Morning all - the new boots are on with Paige black skinnies and my Vince sweater. Head to toe black - back to my spiritual home :) Will put the red lipstick on shortly. I still feel as though I am fighting of this sinus bug so will take it easy again today. This Christmas break has been so nice - really good to chill and not do a lot.
What is everyone up to today? Lovely and sunny here after a storm last night.

LinusDKD · 02/01/2015 10:20

Morning!

Brrr it was cold this morning! -5 still at 9 but it's a bit warmer now.

karbea Flowers for you. I'm so sorry to hear about your IVF struggles.

muddling welcome!

santa that woolly hat looks great and superwarm. Btw, is it a holiday in Germany? I am waiting for a parcel and it has been stuck there for days (understandably) and today nothing seems to happen according to the tracking number.

shop I have been wearing red lipstick most evenings in a bid to get better at applying it and getting up the courage to wear it during the day in public. I have Mac Ruby Woo and Russian Red and some Nars lip pencil.

I think I look good in them so that's why I think I am a cool season (another reason)

I do wear pinky lipsticks and glosses as well but never anything brown toned as it washes me out.

QueenCardigan · 02/01/2015 10:25

shop I've just been to outdoor circuits and am very muddy as it rained lads last night. We're now going shopping en famille to get dh a new suit and then go for a walk. After a lazy day yesterday the kids need to get out.

fedup I just went cold turkey. I didn't do it really hardcore though like some people do as I still have fruit. But I was eating far too much processed sugar in the form of chocolate/cakes/biscuits. Can't believe its been a whole year now as I started last New Years day. I felt rubbish for a few days but now it's fine. If I'm at people's for dinner I will have a small bit of pudding and I have had the odd mince pie over Christmas but it feels great not to be reliant on it. At one point I was like a junkie and always wondering where my next diet coke and chocolate fix would come from. If that sounds extreme it's not as I pretty much took diet coke with me everywhere in case I couldn't get hold of any. ive been far too relaxed with carbs over that past few weeks which shows in my 4lb weight gain and tight clothes. I need to get back in the habit of making salads with quinoa and beans/pulses again although they're just not as appetising in this weather.

muddlingalongquitenicely · 02/01/2015 10:34

Thank you for all the warm welcomes i had an early night as back to work today and my head was a little delicate from too much processco and chambord. I could do with a work and an off work capsule as both are looking quite dire!
Im not looking forward to underwear shopping as i get fed up bra shopping but gwtting the tape measure out tonight and sorting myself out the mumsnet way Smile
Yep on pintrest andreaclaire74 im quite new to it and just building up some boards.

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2015 10:39

Welcome Muddling Smile

Fedup I went cold turkey too. I was also mainlining sugar at one point, due to sleep deprivation. Mostly these ridiculous hot chocolates with loads of marshmallows and extra chocolate. And sometimes I'd just have that rather than eat something. Anyway, I felt terrible and stopped it all and felt loads better. Now I find it easy.

Santa lovely hat.

Karbea it is really lovely to have you here.

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2015 10:40

Today I just have a work phone call (some people are back) and I'm going for a run.

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2015 10:45

Linus I also think you looked fabulous with the bright yellow Céline at the mu. So that is leading me towards Spring too. Might be wrong though!
