Wondering about this as there are some things I like but my mum shops there!!

I'm 35 and she is 60!

over 50s or presenters on QVC

GeorginaWorsley · 28/11/2014 23:03

I would say mid forties onwards.
I buy selectively from there, have a couple of Jersey tops, some knitwear, couple of dresses and necklaces.

I leave most of the printed stuff alone though.

SwedishEdith · 28/11/2014 23:16

I am 50 and have never seen anything I'd buy from there - it seems expensive and synthetic.

GeorginaWorsley · 28/11/2014 23:25

I used to buy more, now finding myself more drawn towards mint velvet, Whistles, Cos, White Company.

I think Phase Eight suited me better when I was bigger, more curvy.
have lost 2 stone this year and a lot of it swamps me
plus I dress differently I think.

Floisme · 29/11/2014 00:07

So basically, they've got something you like? But you won't buy it because you've seen a 60 year-old there?

Really? Grin

PretzelPrincess · 29/11/2014 00:09

I'm in my mid twenties and I have a few things from there. I like the longer length in dresses etc and I think it depends on how you dress them.

Fadingmemory · 29/11/2014 00:10

Some of the clothes are OK but a lot either look rather cheap or frumpy. I'm in my 60s!

CoffeeBucks · 29/11/2014 00:23

Occasionally there's some really lovely pieces - usually spring/summer rather than autumn/winter. I like their jewellery as well. But I have the same problem that my mum, who at 61 is 28 years older than me, shops there all the time...

SinglePringle · 29/11/2014 00:41

I'm 45. I never even go in. I look at the window and realise it's not for me. I shop in All Saints, Zara, Massimo Duti, Top Shop, & Other Stories and ASOS plus independent shops and smaller designers from Liberty, My Wardrobe and Selfridges.

mooth · 29/11/2014 08:01

Does it really matter - don't people just buy what they like?

Their yellow lace shift dress that Pippa Middleton wore a couple of years ago is fabulous (I have it, I'm 45). She's considerably younger than me!

pinkfrocks · 29/11/2014 08:45

I'm late 50s and would wear very little of it. somehow it seems a bit mother of the bride and lots of man made fibres. I think occasionally they do nice knitwear but the only dress I ever bought was unworn and ebayed.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 29/11/2014 08:55

I've been looking in them in the search for an office party dress. They are a bit mother of the bride, but I tried on a couple of things that were too young for me if anything.

noddyholder · 29/11/2014 08:58

I think it depends how you wear for some things not what. But I am 49 and not keen.

photocop · 29/11/2014 09:09

My mum shops there (she's 67) and so do I (I'm 40).

There are plenty of things there I don't like, but I do like the long drapey cardigans and also the ruched-style dresses.

pinkfrocks · 29/11/2014 10:06

I've always thought the dresses were simply too 'dressy' for my lifestyle- a bit 'occasion' like Coast. Ok for a party perhaps but not much I'd ever wear everyday.

I think they were better and more quirky about 10-15 years back but have now slipped into Coast territory.

JeffreyGartnerEatsWell · 29/11/2014 10:08

i'm mid 40s but some of the stuff is a bit too bohemian and flouncy looking for me. I prefer a sharper hobbs style look. hobbs not aimed at younger people so it's all whatever your taste. I prefer fitted clothes. Not crazy about patterns either.

meglet · 29/11/2014 10:12

Probably 50-60yr olds.

I'm 40 and pop into Phase Eight a few times a year. Then I remember how frumpy it is and leave empty handed.

pinkfrocks · 29/11/2014 10:15

Ah you see Jeffrey I like Bohemian - and that's how they used to be when they first started- but not imo they are now very middle of the road and not what I'd call everyday wear.

GeorginaWorsley · 29/11/2014 10:18

Agree there are a lot of frills and flounces.
I used to wear a lot of the Italian range stuff and what on ebay gets termed 'lagenlook'

I prefer simpler styles now and am currently wearing charcoal Mint Velvet jeans, white vest, pale grey White Company jumper and black leather Ash trainers

I don't do many prints now and Phase Eight has an abundance of printsGrin

Like everywhere though there are some nice bits.
I like some stuff in Whistles but a lot isoverpriced and square shaped Grin

JeffreyGartnerEatsWell · 29/11/2014 10:20

floisme i've bought jumpers from country casuals. I don't pay any attention to a shops image. If I like an individual garment, then I like it.

My kids drama teacher really pulls of that phase-eight look but it matches her personality too. I am smaller, and I feel I need to stick to fitted clothes. Anything that offers to 'drape', I know that will look like i've rolled around in the bed and stood up.

Eastpoint · 29/11/2014 10:23

I used to buy lots in Phase 8 & Jigsaw 20-25 years ago. As I've got older so have they and now I don't shop in either. I've only ever bought 2 things in Whistles & that was in 1993, I'm just not their shape.

pinkfrocks · 29/11/2014 10:26

Oh I don't like anything flouncy or 'waterfalling'. No way! And I rarely do prints and never floral prints.
But years back P8 was different and a bit more niche.
Now when I look at it I wonder if I'm looking at LK Bennett, Hobbs, Coast. Kaliko, etc- they are all quite similar though Hobbs is more 'officey' imo.

JeffreyGartnerEatsWell · 29/11/2014 10:30

I love this dress that they're sold out of boo, could imagine wearing this to my xmas party

GeorginaWorsley · 29/11/2014 10:30

Have bought my mother of bride outfit for DD wedding early next year from Hobbs

Otherwise though doesn't suit my lifestyle.
bit work wear or occasion y for me

Castlemilk · 29/11/2014 10:31
