Wondering about this as there are some things I like but my mum shops there!!

I'm 35 and she is 60!

I buy the odd thing from there especially if in sale - yesterday bought a Phase 8 stripy sweater dress for work in an outlet shop for £8
I'm 50 and as previous posters have said buy items I like regardless of brand
Current wardrobe starts from New Look, Warehouse, Oasis through to Planet, Windsmoor and CC, with M n S and Debenhams in between
I shop a lot in charity shops and designer outlets, my most recent bargain was a Jaeger jacket for £3

SuperFlyHigh · 29/11/2014 10:53

Depends. I'm 43 but don't buy things from there for me but do for mum (young 73 year old) their floral tie stretch tops suit her and got a nice striped stretch top there.

The rest just isn't me even the occasion wear

SuperFlyHigh · 29/11/2014 11:03

remus your 'nasty' link with the dodgy hem is I think phase eight trying to do an All Saints of about 10 years ago or Joe Browns. I agree they should be more consistent re the fitted dress you linked to.

Floisme · 29/11/2014 12:21

Whenever a shop tries to target older women, they get it hopelessly wrong. They never seem to grasp the basic fact that women over 50 come in as many different shapes and sizes and have as varied tastes as any other age group.

polyhymnia · 29/11/2014 12:59

Hear, hear!

Floisme · 29/11/2014 13:20

I don't know why these places don't take a lesson from the so-called teenage shops who may have a few OTT things in the window but who also stock lots of basics that can appeal to all ages. I'm 58 and what I would really like is a H&M with better fabrics and less random sizing.

Oh and sleeves Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 29/11/2014 18:17

floisme your type of H&M should really be Cos then which I like but it scares me sometimes

DollyTwat · 29/11/2014 18:30

I'm wearing this tonight and it looks fab. I'm 45

It might be super but I don't live near a branch sadly and the website is grim. & other stories might be another if only I could shop in London

pinkfrocks · 29/11/2014 19:04

I don't have the arms for that dress Dolly.

Upper arms are decidedly flabby even though my body is an 8-10.

Floisme · 29/11/2014 19:39

Same here, pink Sad Nice dress though, Dolly.

Dancingyogi · 29/11/2014 20:05

I'm 43 and I never hold much hope of finding anything in my local Phase eight, it just isn't my style...too wedding focused. Occasionally they have something lovely. I think most of the clothes are aimed at glam 60-80 year olds.

happyyonisleepyyoni · 29/11/2014 20:12

I am 41, tall, dark and curvy and I wear their wrap dresses all the time, have had lots of compliments (and pulled) so I'm not complaining....

MaryWestmacott · 29/11/2014 20:29

they do tend to make clothes that you need to have height to pull off. I've picked up a few jumpers and long sleeved t-shirts in their sales, and I do like their jewellery, not as cheap looking as a lot of stuff available at the same price.

Catypillar · 29/11/2014 20:37

I'm 32 and have a few things from Phase Eight- non-patterned tops and dresses for work. Everything I've had from there has been great quality and fits well (I'm 5'9" and have a reasonably large chest- both are problems for other shops). I wouldn't wear most of their stuff but I usually find something nice in among all the mother of the bride outfits. Otherwise I mostly shop in New Look, Uniqlo, H+M, Promod and TKMaxx, and I don't dress older than I am.

Pusspuss1 · 29/11/2014 20:39

Ah - this thread explains why, although I go in there all the time because it's one of few shops we have nearby, I hardly ever buy anything. Due to being a mere slip of a 30-something, I am decades too young for it - who knew! ;-)

BrandyAlexander · 29/11/2014 22:21

phase 8 clothes are aimed at women age 35 to 55 but most of its customers are age 45 to 55. I don't see the point in writing off a whole shop. Coast is interesting. Its target customers are age 25 to 44. most of its customers come from 2 age groups. Under 25s and over 65s. go figureGrin

SinglePringle · 30/11/2014 02:18

I say again, I'm 45 and shop in Zara, & Other Stories, J-Crew, Top Shop, Mango, ASOS, Jaegar Boutique, Massimo Duti etc etc. If Phase 8 are aiming at me, they are getting it totally wrong. Draped viscose and patterns are so outside my definition of style....

ArsenicSoup · 30/11/2014 02:32

Their yellow lace shift dress that Pippa Middleton wore a couple of years ago is fabulous (I have it, I'm 45). She's considerably younger than me!

Yes, but she's a Middleton. They both dress very conservatively for their ages.

NoelleHawthorne · 30/11/2014 04:05

Christ folks. Calm down!

BlueEyedWonder · 30/11/2014 07:52

If you're 5ft and a very small size 8, they offer nothing for your wardrobe regardless of whether you are 30 or 80.

notsogoldenoldie · 30/11/2014 08:13

Yes, hit and miss. I'm 55 and I've bought three asymmetric v-neck jumpers there which I live in. They're thin-knit, wash well and cost £35 each in sale.

Otherwise, frumpy, shapeless and droopy.

notsogoldenoldie · 30/11/2014 08:26

I wish I wasn't "targeted" as an older woman though. I dress more stylishly (at least I think soGrin) than most of my younger friends.

I wear anything that suits, and shops need to get this message. I may be 55, but I'm not ready for crimplene yet.

vivlevyhandbagqueen · 30/11/2014 08:43

Due to limited choice of clothes that fit well and I actually like I am trying to embrace shops I might not have ventured into previously.

Phase Eight comes into that category for me -their plainer dresses are well made and a good fit-does sometime venture into wedding wear though.

Sizes good and pricing fair though.

Floisme · 30/11/2014 09:01

I don't object to being targeted - I object to everyone doing it so badly.
