Would you like this for Christmas?

And if not, what would you suggest (budget about £50)

Thank you....

Hmmm depends on how well you know your SIL as make up is quite a personal thing. I have a few friends who will only wear certain brands or v fussy about colours so I tend to avoid buying make up (save for stuff like nail varnish).

Sorry no ideas for alternatives but I shall be watching this thread as I have my own super glamorous SIL to buy for still!

ReluctantCamper · 27/11/2014 20:59

Dior makeup is lovely. I have dark brown hair and fair skin and would wear that colour palette, so would be delighted with that present. What's your SIL's colouring?

TheOriginalWinkly · 27/11/2014 21:08

I agree that make up is personal. I would suggest the Rolls Royce of cleansers here

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 27/11/2014 22:00

No, I'd rather one of these www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-silk-camisole-top/p1221257?colour=Black

ICantFindAFreeNickName · 27/11/2014 22:16

I would not buy the make-up or the cleanser as I think both are very personal. If you know what perfume she likes could you buy her something like an expensive body lotion or shower gel to match, as unless people have a lot of money they tend to just buy the perfume not the matching items. Likewise if she has a favourite skincare brand, she might like the bodycare products from the same company.

Chumhum · 27/11/2014 22:20

Yes to the Dior make up and no to the handbag.

SunnySomer · 27/11/2014 22:28

Definitely no to the handbag. But the cleanser would go down VERY well with me. Or something like a good quality make up bag.

AgathaF · 27/11/2014 22:44

Don't like the handbag at all. The top is lovely, although depends what shape of top she prefers. Cleanser is nice too, although a bit boggling at the price!!

Fcukfifa · 27/11/2014 22:49

I'd say a bag was a more personal choice than make up. Especially a mascara and neutral eyeshadow palette.

My sister bought me some ysl mascara for my birthday and I was over the moon with it......fantastic mascara bye and came in nice box etc

Longdistance · 27/11/2014 23:02

Yes to the make up. I quite like it myself, and wish someone would buy me something like than.

irregularegular · 27/11/2014 23:08

I bought my sister an Eve Lom gift set (including cleanser) for an excellent price from strawberrynet

Eve Lom is well known as being really good - though I agree that it is still a bit risky. My mother bought my sister the cleanser last year and she loved it but it's too expensive to buy herself - so I'm hoping she'll be really pleased.

RJnomore · 27/11/2014 23:08

I'd say that's fab you can't go wrong with black mascara and the palette is neutrals. I love dior makeup too it feels sooo nice.

irregularegular · 27/11/2014 23:09

I think a good mascara is a nice choice. And eye shadow too if you know what sort of colours she wears.

polyhymnia · 27/11/2014 23:09

Really don't think it's ever a good idea to give makeup or skincare unless you know that's exactly what the recipient wants. Way too
personal. I would not be happy with someone else's choice of that or perfume at all as I have very strong likes and dislikes.

I think a Space N K voucher would be a much better gift for someone stylish.

mrsdimmock · 27/11/2014 23:12

I agree fcukfifa, i'd prefer to get this ..I think make up is a tricky one to get right tbh..

JustSpeakSense · 27/11/2014 23:12

I think make up is a very personal choice, unless you specifically know what she wears and what she needs I wouldn't risk it!

coffeenut · 27/11/2014 23:16

yes to the makeup you first linked to. My fave mascara and the eyeshadow palette looks very wearable too.

In terms of posters saying make-up is very personal, I think most S&B gifts are (I personally don't like the bag and probably wouldn't wear the camisole as it's too low cut for me).

Riverland · 27/11/2014 23:19

Definitely no thanks to the bag.

The make up you can't go wrong with. A great mascara and good quality neutrals are a lovely lovely gift, I'd be thrilled to receive those. Very thoughtful!

Jennys2108 · 28/11/2014 06:39

Thank you for all your replies! Honestly, she's the woman with everything already!

Yes to the Dior makeup, it's neutral so would suit most. The eve lom cleanser is lovely and luxurious but......maybe a little on the practical side.
The bag - a big NO, Bags are very personal choices so avoid.

Floisme · 28/11/2014 08:17

I was once told I was 'looking glamorous - as always'. Just wanted to get that in Grin
Anyway despite my glamorous credentials, I never wear mascara (it irritates my eyes). I would avoid any make up or skin care unless it's a brand you know for certain she likes.
How about a spa voucher?

atticusclaw · 28/11/2014 08:19

I'm hoping I'm your glamorous SIL. I'll have the Eve Lom cleanser please because I'm running low and its the sort of thing I can't justify going out and spending money on myself.

atticusclaw · 28/11/2014 08:20

I'd say avoid a spa voucher. My friends bought me one for my birthday but I don't really want to go to a spa on my own.

coffeenut · 28/11/2014 08:37

I was given a spa voucher last christmas that I never used...

Cleanser is more personalised than make-up - I would not touch Eve Lom stuff as my skin is so sensitive (and it is overpriced crap - sorry).

I do like the idea of a SpaceNK voucher. I often give Mecca Cosmetica vouchers (the equivalent of SpaceNK where I am).
