Would you like this for Christmas?
www.johnlewis.com/dior-iconic-overcurl/p1561269

And if not, what would you suggest (budget about £50)

Thank you....

That's true about spa vouchers dammit. OK John Lewis vouchers - if I were your sister in law, op I'd be very happy with them.

Hoppinggreen · 28/11/2014 12:45

I have just bought both my sil's ( one glam, one not so much) a naice set of hair stuff . I buy myself expensive make up but usually cheap shampoo until recently so it's something I would love to get.

AgathaF · 28/11/2014 13:05

Does she like nice teas or coffees? There are some really nice gift on the Whittards site?

Carpaccio · 28/11/2014 13:31

The Dior Overcurl mascara smudges quite a bit on me (but it generally seems to get good reviews) and the little palette is very small, but very cute. As a freebie with the mascara it's not too bad - but some people might find it disappointingly small.
It contains 2.2 g of product - as a comparison, a Mac eyeshadow contains 1.5 g. The picture shows the palette next to a £2 coin.

If your budget is £50, I'd suggest the Guerlain Meteorites powder pearls - they're around £30 at House of Fraser today. You might even be able to find a nice brush for it - although the Guerlain Meteorites one isn't that good IMO.
There are also neutral palettes around £32 and they are really nice.

A Chanel cream blusher is also nice and you can barely go wrong with the colours - they are just lovely.
Nail polish from a higher end brand (Dior, Guerlain, Chanel, OPI and Essie) are also very good and you can barely go wrong with new or classic colours.

I'd probably steer clear of lipsticks, just because the colours can be hard to get right. A Tom Ford one would be nice (they're around £37), but it's silly potentially buying a colour that doesn't suit her.

Hand creams and lip balms are generally fail safe - Nuxe have some great ones and they have special offers on them on the Nuxe website (and free shipping and samples).

If you know your SIL and have primed her (talk by email etc drop hints for what she'd like) then I'd go that way.

God knows what YSL mascara I bought cos it was the worst crap ever... got 2 as well, 2 different colours then couldn't be bothered to take it back.

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 13:53

For my aunt one year I got her some Clarins lipgloss/hand cream whatever to cheer her up as a surprise when her house flooded, moody woman never thanked me so I presume she hated it...

strange that cos in her bathroom all you can see is row of Clarins stuff and she's the woman that has everything!

bluesky · 28/11/2014 13:57

I'd get something from www.aromatherapyassociates.com, they do gorgeous bath oils, smell like a divine health spa, lovely packaging. They are a real treat.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 28/11/2014 13:59

What about something like this?

www.latestinbeauty.com/glamour/?gclid=CjwKEAiA1-CjBRDOhIr_-vPDvQYSJAB48SmEMGswlxJdPv5zljLMx9wLO0Q2O99BW1ORrYT8JFx6jBoCAxbw_wcB

A mix of products she can try?

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/11/2014 14:00

Yes. The shadows are neutral and who doesn't like Dior make up?

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 14:01

bluesky - that's a fab idea, I got myself a mini travel set of their oils one year - you can use I think as massage as well as bath - this is what i got and I think they're fibbing as I got this at least 4 years ago so it's not new...!

www.aromatherapyassociates.com/gifts/all-year-round-gifts/10-oil-miniature-bath-shower-oil-collection.html

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 14:03

TripTrap - if you mean a Dior pallette they are lovely but it wouldn't be on my wishlist.

The Glamour box would be a favourite of mine.

TheWordFactory · 28/11/2014 14:10

I think cleanser is to work-a-day, but the mascara is nice.

And yes to anything from Aromatherapy Associates and also Neals Yard. Lots of great essential oil stuff in there.

bluesky · 28/11/2014 14:12

Oh and they've got 20% off and free delivery at the mo (Aromatherapy Associates)!

superflyhigh they are lovely aren't they, I bought myself the little drawer of bath oils for Christmas today!

Greengardenpixie · 28/11/2014 14:36

What about a gift voucher and she could choose herself? ..for House of fraser etc.

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 15:46

bluesky - you're tempting me - with the 20% off I think I will buy again for me - they're not new... just different packaging maybe formula is a bit different. The only slight faff is they're tiny glass bottles but you can recycle them (the mini ones) what's great is i can easily take them on holiday, weekends away etc.

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 15:47

bluesky I wonder what their candles are like? I love a good candle and if they use aromatherapy oils.... heaven.

polyhymnia · 28/11/2014 16:41

Still say Space NK voucher best bet.

polyhymnia · 28/11/2014 16:48

Or Aromatherapy Associates oils sets - also much safer. Have given these to stylish people and they've gone down well.

To 'who doesn't like Dior makeup' question, I don't hugely. Much prefer By Terry, Becca, Laura Mercier,Chantecaille (all available from Space NK and no I don't work for them!).

sillymillyb · 28/11/2014 16:49

I have a voucher for this so you don't have to buy the perfume, if that's any good to you? Has to be used today though (I want it myself but am poor!)

SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 17:19

poly I agree with you I don't rate Dior at all I've got a few palettes and get envious looks off friends but I much prefer shu uemura, Bobbi brown used to like chantecaille and Laurier mercier etc.

In fact I'm not mad about Bobbi brown my faves at moment due to no MAC or Chanel in local work dept store.

Fcukfifa · 28/11/2014 19:00

Just want to throw it in, my sister is very stylish etc, I bought her a Jo Malone candle and she was over the moon with it

TheWordFactory · 28/11/2014 19:05

Just bought a stylish friend some bath oil that aids sleep from This Works. Every glamour puss needs their kip!

Levantine · 28/11/2014 19:30

I vote for the space Nk voucher. Brilliant present

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 28/11/2014 19:46

This thread goes to show that the trouble with glamorous women is they are so damn picky and individual! I would hate to be bought bath stuff, spa vouchers, aromatherapy and scented candles but love make-up and skin care gifts.

Space NK vouchers are good - as is one really good make up brush.

bluesky · 28/11/2014 21:04

Superfly, their candles are v good, i got one for MIL birthday.

My favourite candles are by NEOM though
