The Dior Overcurl mascara smudges quite a bit on me (but it generally seems to get good reviews) and the little palette is very small, but very cute. As a freebie with the mascara it's not too bad - but some people might find it disappointingly small.
It contains 2.2 g of product - as a comparison, a Mac eyeshadow contains 1.5 g. The picture shows the palette next to a £2 coin.
If your budget is £50, I'd suggest the Guerlain Meteorites powder pearls - they're around £30 at House of Fraser today. You might even be able to find a nice brush for it - although the Guerlain Meteorites one isn't that good IMO.
There are also neutral palettes around £32 and they are really nice.
A Chanel cream blusher is also nice and you can barely go wrong with the colours - they are just lovely.
Nail polish from a higher end brand (Dior, Guerlain, Chanel, OPI and Essie) are also very good and you can barely go wrong with new or classic colours.
I'd probably steer clear of lipsticks, just because the colours can be hard to get right. A Tom Ford one would be nice (they're around £37), but it's silly potentially buying a colour that doesn't suit her.
Hand creams and lip balms are generally fail safe - Nuxe have some great ones and they have special offers on them on the Nuxe website (and free shipping and samples).
