Would you like this for Christmas?

And if not, what would you suggest (budget about £50)

Thank you....

I would be very wary of buying make up unless I knew the person's tastes very well indeed. But if I were to buy luxe make up for someone else then I'd go for Tom Ford personally.

I vote voucher. I'm picky about smells (being heavily into perfumes) so scented candles would be somewhat difficult to buy for me. Voucher is the most foolproof way, even if not the most exciting.

I was just coming on the suggest a posh candle, but see several people have beaten me to it. Although I would not be that pleased to receive a posh candle myself, all the women in the up market magazines seem to love them !!
If you were set on getting her make up, how about the Urban Decay Naked palette, they always seem to get good reviews.

I second NEOM candle! Or one of their gift sets with body products

I hate candles too. Loathe the smelly ones, and also they remind me of the impossibility of candles in my life.

Ormonde Jayne are my candles of choice. 30% off today only and free postage. I may have accidentally gone there as a result of this thread and treated myself to perfume and body lotion incase DH is stuck for a Christmas present

I would hate to be given make up/cleanser/handbag/perfume: too difficult too choose for someone else.

I devote my life to these choices (in amongst the big stuff, obviously) and if makes me feel guilty and horrid if I am given something like this that I don't use.

So I agree that a Space NK voucher would be a good thing, or Cult Beauty.

Please please just buy her vouchers or decent candles (Fornasetti, Diptyque, Daylesford). I would be described as glamorous (accepted it now, always wanted to be boho/surfer type) and am tough to buy for. I always gratefully accept all gifts and send the requisite thank you notes but use very little I'm given due to skin sensitivity or the fact that they're just not me. I'm too polite to say anything (unless it's my husband, he knows to ask!) but hate to think of the wasted money..

Oooh, I might look at them then.

I've tried Jo Malone and Diptyque candles. I think they're a bit overrated love Molton brown ones.

I was just coming on to say Jo Malone, or a super post candle from Diptyque.

This thread goes to show that the trouble with glamorous women is they are so damn picky and individual! I would hate to be bought bath stuff, spa vouchers, aromatherapy and scented candles but love make-up and skin care gifts.

Space NK vouchers are good - as is one really good make up brush.

poly I agree with you I don't rate Dior at all I've got a few palettes and get envious looks off friends but I much prefer shu uemura, Bobbi brown used to like chantecaille and Laurier mercier etc.

In fact I'm not mad about Bobbi brown my faves at moment due to no MAC or Chanel in local work dept store.

I have a voucher for this so you don't have to buy the perfume, if that's any good to you? Has to be used today though (I want it myself but am poor!)

Or Aromatherapy Associates oils sets - also much safer. Have given these to stylish people and they've gone down well.

To 'who doesn't like Dior makeup' question, I don't hugely. Much prefer By Terry, Becca, Laura Mercier,Chantecaille (all available from Space NK and no I don't work for them!).

polyhymnia · 28/11/2014 16:41

Still say Space NK voucher best bet.

bluesky I wonder what their candles are like? I love a good candle and if they use aromatherapy oils.... heaven.

Report
SuperFlyHigh · 28/11/2014 15:46

bluesky - you're tempting me - with the 20% off I think I will buy again for me - they're not new... just different packaging maybe formula is a bit different. The only slight faff is they're tiny glass bottles but you can recycle them (the mini ones) what's great is i can easily take them on holiday, weekends away etc.

superflyhigh they are lovely aren't they, I bought myself the little drawer of bath oils for Christmas today!

I think cleanser is to work-a-day, but the mascara is nice.

And yes to anything from Aromatherapy Associates and also Neals Yard. Lots of great essential oil stuff in there.
