Happy birthday Linus Cake Thanks [champagne]. I thought maybe Lanvin for SC's shoes too.

Dry scallop carpaccio (put some truffle oil in a marinade) or scallop & prosecco risotto (I have a recipe somewhere). Also monkfish & porcini mushrooms in red wine sauce which for some reason seems to me v leather skirt appropriate. A starter I do a lot for which got the idea from the Michelin starred place near you is a white crabmeat & avocado press. Mix the crab with chives, lemon, black pepper and a little mayonnaise to bind, put a layer in a ramekin dish and top with avocado cubes dressed in lemon juice & olive oil. It can be done in advance and plated up last minute.

Momin wow, you are a loyal customer! I love Hermès too and hope they don't end up getting bought out by LVMH.

happiest of happy birthdays linus! Cake Wine Thanks I hope you have had a lovely day

mom that menu sounds incredible! I might have tried it if there was more than me to cook for and if the few people i do cook for weren't so bloody fussy!

I either have severe exhaustion symptoms or I have another virus. I really think I need to stock myself up with loads of multi vitamins and I think it was zinc that someone told me to take for boosting my immune system. I really couldn't be feeling ill at a worse time as we have so much work to do this week with having extra lessons Sad

libertychick · 04/11/2014 22:52

I am salivating over all the yummy recipes.

Happy Birthday Linus, hope you had a fabulous day and yy tell us about the presents Cake Wine Flowers

I bought this Ted Baker dress and I have already decided to return it - I am so bloody fickle. It looks nice on but I have decided I can't justify the price for something I will only wear very occasionally. And it gives me a tiny bit of muffin above the waist band (hence the spanx). I've decided I need a party dress that can cope with bubbles, tapas and chips if required on the way home Grin so sod the shapewear! For the price I could get something like a clutch and a faux fur coat and use those to vamp up something I already own for night out or I could get a more versatile dress.

I bought these shoes from Hobbs in black suede. I don't own any heels currently, I threw out my previous pair of black high heeled courts a few months ago - they were 8 years old!!! So that feels like a much needed replacement and they will cover nights out and the odd occasion at work where I feel I need to stand a bit taller.

libertychick · 04/11/2014 22:57

Mom wow at your Hermes collection. Good plan though to stick with one brand for accessories.

One yes zinc is good. Pace yourself lovely lady, slow and steady wins the race.

Good purchases today Marsha. Wish I had remembered that sale.

Topazandpearl · 04/11/2014 23:06

Happy birthday Linus, hope you had a lovely day.

Follow Lib's advice one to pace yourself and take care.

Impressed with all the recipes!

OneLittleLady · 04/11/2014 23:09

liberty New Look has a fab, hip length black faux fur jacket in currently, I bought it at the weekend. it's really soft, doesn't look at all cheap and is warm. I will definitely get some multi vitamins and some zinc tablets tomorrow while I'm at the chemist getting some cough syrup. I know this isnt a chest infection as it's just a tickly cough and I'm not coughing anything up so no sense going to the doctors only to be told what I already know, that it's a virus!

libertychick · 04/11/2014 23:26

Thanks for that tip one. I might get a chance to check it out on Thursday.

bettykt · 04/11/2014 23:37

Happy birthday Linus. Hope you had a lovely meal out.

Drywhiteplease · 05/11/2014 07:57

Mara you've reminded me of a pressed starter I used to do a lot by Mary Berry. Impressive looking but dead simple. Monkfish sounds good.
Awks was wondering where you'd gone. Glad you're back. Your British tapas sound brilliant, but please tell me you don't make them all from scratch.

Wardrobes start today. DH said ages ago he'd be in to let the guys in now he tells me he's got an appointment first thing Shock bloody hell. Not only that but he's moving furniture at 7 am this morning......I've been chasing him round the house trying to find my clothes!!!!!!!! Drawers everywhere. Need a lie down Grin

OneLittleLady · 05/11/2014 09:07

liberty ill pm you a link to the fqux fur jacket later if you want?

ugh,i feel rotten.going in to the pharmacy to get something for my cough.means ill be a bit late but i cqnt spend the whole day coughing and spluttering.

linus do tell about pressies!!

MarshaBrady · 05/11/2014 09:15

Liberty I thought of you! I was going to see if you wanted to come, but it was all so squashed and hectic. It's still on for a few days, go check it out if you can.

Stokey · 05/11/2014 09:39

Happy Birthday Linus hope you had a lovely dinner.

DD1's birthday tomorrow so am off to Westfield today to buy some pressies.

I may look for a jacket for myself too but am torn between wanting a parka or faux fur coat or real winter coat... or all three!

I was in town yesterday and completely forgot the Matches sale Marsha, don't think I can make it again this week.

libertychick · 05/11/2014 09:55

I won't be in town again this week Marsha - never mind - as always I don't actually NEED anything Smile. And I don't do well in scrums, get all flustered and either leave or buy the wrong thing.

One yes, do send me the link to that jacket if you get a chance. I'll be near a New Look tomorrow.

Stokey I was in that coat position last year! But I got a parka and a winter coat last year so I feel ok going for a faux fur this time. Or I might get a faux fur stole to wear with other coats - hmmmmm.

LinusDKD · 05/11/2014 10:05

Morning!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! shop just buy me an extra glass bottle of prosecco at the next MU I come to.

Not that many prezzies really as DH's prezzie (a lovely Van Cleef and Arpels Bracelet) is also a joint Christmas present and DP's present is as well. I'll open those at Christmas.

The DC didn't buy me anything as DH forgot Hmm but we will go out and buy something together this weekend as he feels really bad about forgetting.

DSis sent me a lovely beach kaftan from Oz. Wrong season though. Wink

And DPILs asked me to buy something when I was in NY so I bought another
Rails shirt. Quelle surprise!

one I hope you feel better soon!

dry yay, wardrobe day!

Talking about wardrobes, can I come and live in yours momin?

lib lovely Hobbs shies. I really loved their shoes for the office when I lived and worked in London.

About those flats that Sofia Coppola was wearing, I checked out LV and Marc Jacobs but no luck. Will check out Lanvin next.

Brrr, very cold and rainy again today.

MarshaBrady · 05/11/2014 10:12

Oh Liberty I feel bad now, I'm such a numpty I had my got to get through this head on. It was a scrum though and I had to share the changing room with someone else (not too bad actually, it was all a bit bonding, everyone chatting about buying stuff!)

I'm still thinking about a coat I saw in Liberty. Probably gone by now.

Linus nice pressies.

QueenCardigan · 05/11/2014 10:49

Hi all. Ridiculously busy here trying to catch up with house stuff after being away and then entertsinng 14 adults and 18 kids on Sunday!

linus and shop happy belated birthdays Wine Flowers Cake
dry my dh has grown a beard too!! He often does on holiday but this time he's keeping it. I really dislike it. I was hoping everyone else would tell him how awful it is but everyone's said it suits him and that he has more gravitas at work Hmm.
lib I like the sound of chips on the way home Grin
shop I totally understand why you feel you can't wear your autumn wardrobe. Just such a shame as you have some lovely stuff. Will you really lose lots of ££ if you ebay? Can you dye any of it?

I'd quite like a faux fur jacket too but would never really have the occasion to wear.

I had some stuff to return to white stuff from my spree the other week (skirt and tights) and have just bought the velvet shoes in there as I haven't been able to stop thinking about them. I've justified them as I need new going out shoes and also can't wear heels at the weekend due to toe.

blair everyone pretty much knows my uniform- dark denim straight leg jeans, navy/grey blouse, coloured cardi.

shopafrolic · 05/11/2014 11:48

Linus this thread can't go on to the next edition soon enough - I feel so mortified :( Glad you had a lovely time. DH didn't get me anything from DS either (and went to bed last night at 9pm), but he did get me nice gifts and we're going out for dinner with friends on Friday so I can't complain.

So - ladies who leather....... Liberty's AMAZING leather trousers have arrived. A couple of questions. They are made from lamb's leather and say they are cotton lined - although they don't have separate lining - so how does that work.
I think it's love - but it's a lot of money (even at £200) so I want to be sure. They fit perfectly other than very slight gapping at the waistband at the back (not enough that they slide down when I sit down though). But they aren't standard leather, they wouldn't be wipeable...... so, how often do you get yours cleaned - and how much do they give / knee with wear......?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 05/11/2014 12:35

Don't have leather trousers but I can't abide trousers that gape at the back, they would have to be perfect for me at that price. If it is very slight though you might decide you can put up with it.

Have been perusing asos new in, a few links:
Party skirt for Liberty
Party skirt for One
Amazing bodycon party dress for anyone who likes silver sequins

QueenC I've found another navy lace pencil skirt, never bought anything in M&Co but it looks nice, maybe one for the sale?

Also QueenC I had an idea for a future Sunday morning shopping session... Christmas jumpers Grin

ps Did I miss the wedding outfits reveal?!

foxysocks · 05/11/2014 12:57

shop, I tried the HL leather leggings from MyW with all the code stacking fun. I sent them back because of that gaping at the back - I think it's a sign you need to go down a size. the reviews on shop bop all say the same, size down as they are so soft that the leather gives with wear.

cleaning is specialist dry clean only with leather. I'm surprised not wipeable though, the ones I tried on would be - what do you mean by 'not standard leather'?

Sleepwhenidie · 05/11/2014 13:05

Linus - so sorry I missed your birthday yesterday Blush - Happy belated birthday, hope you had a lovely day. I finally got the Paige leggings, they're not a keeper. Let me know if you want me to send them to you (not sure what happens if you don't like them?). They are marked XS rather than 26 and they are very snug on me. The pleather is quite thick, but the ponte (?) back makes them much more comfortable than they would be if they were 'leather' all over. I was unsure, maybe 8/10 on them but DH wasn't keen so that made the decision.

On the other hand, shearling Pistols arrived and it is love. I have them on my bare feet, don't want to take them off Grin - thanks for the push everyone!

Our front door key snapped in the lock last night, locksmiths currently having to replace the entire lock £900 + labour Shock - DH will be delighted when he finds out. We are only covered up to £500 under insurance but I guess we should be grateful for that Hmm.

Funny about the beards - luckily my DH looks really much older when he stops shaving for a few days - he knows this and is vain so never leaves it long Grin

Menus sound delicious, will definitely be trying your scallop recipe Mom - where is that Japanese place for the fish in marinade please Smile

QueenCardigan · 05/11/2014 13:19

shop where are you planning on wearing them? Isn't lambs leather delicate and so not great if you're on the floor playing trains with ds. But would be great for going out but then you need to think of cpw?

blair I love the idea of Christmas jumpers. Will deginitely do that nearer the time! I haven't yet liked the wedding pin board but may do so now. It's not entirely finished but it gets quite stressful finding outfits for so many Grin

QueenCardigan · 05/11/2014 13:20

sleep £900 Shock

QueenCardigan · 05/11/2014 13:24

vogue wedding....

Take your pick of things if I haven't allocated you anything....

libertychick · 05/11/2014 13:27

Blair I LOVE that skirt - thank you. Will order and try...

shopafrolic · 05/11/2014 13:30

This is a close up of the leather finish......
