I regularly get them (cream carpets) cleaned professionally, but I've also my own vax which I use frequently too. I've 4 cats and 2 dogs, my carpets have a hard life...

Fedupnagging · 22/10/2014 22:02

Lovely bag Novice, gorgeous colour. You have a wine fridge? Shock whispers

Lib, the best way to clean a carpet is to get someone in. Failing that, (ours retired) we hired a machine from Homebase which did a pretty good job and wasn't too strenuous.

Queen, I'd like a hat please. Maybe you could dress us for the MOBO's next?

libertychick · 22/10/2014 22:06

See I knew you would know what to do Dry. I may need the pro's on this. Will order some of the ChemDry stuff.

libertychick · 22/10/2014 22:07

Major cross posts!!! Thanks all for the carpet recs - votes seem to be falling towards the pros...

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 22/10/2014 22:07

So many posts! Yep novice i would like to get gorgeous shoes I can wear again, but realistically I think I'll have to stick to under 3 inches. I have no problem walking in heels but my feet have really high arches so standing for long periods (even in flats) really stretches the tendons and hurts my lower back. Alcohol does help though.

Yes underwear...! So much to think about. I was thinking I may need Spanx but not sure that would have the desired effect? Wink

bettykt · 22/10/2014 22:09

Stunning dress Blair very elegant.

Novice fab bag, will you use it tomorrow?

Liberty glad your presentation went well, I haven't had a bath in years, I like the idea of having one but I get bored and can't seem to relax and savour the moment and then I think what a waste of water as I get out 5 minutes later. In answer to your question, I have given it much thought, not because I don't want to meet you all but more to do with being a bit intimidated and being a relative newbie here but I've decided yes I want to come to the MU and meet you all in person. Do I pm Mara?

libertychick · 22/10/2014 22:10

You don't need Spanx Blair Shock

Karbea · 22/10/2014 22:11

Do j crew have any nice bridesmaid dresses? I didn't have any this time, but first time round I had dresses made for my bridesmaid and flower girls.

libertychick · 22/10/2014 22:16

Yay Betty! Yes just pm Mara so you are on the list for having the details confirmed. It is intimidating coming to a MU - I was so nervous at the first one but everyone is really lovely and all the MU's have been great fun.

Stokey are you coming? And anyone else, it's an open invite.

BrandyAlexander · 22/10/2014 22:18

Lib, ooh carpets, something i am obsessed by! We had cream carpets all the way through our entire house in our old house. And a baby and toddler.Hmm

We have a vax machine, we use it once every 3 months. We use vax cleaner with it. We also get them professionally cleaned every year, eye wateringly expensive but worth it as they do the edges. 3 times a week our cleaner uses a dyson because it lifts the dirt. You can really tell the difference between dyson and others so recommend you get a good one and persuade dh to use it daily.Grin

In between I use the carpet sweeper that QueenC and I love! My starter if I was you would be professionals but you could also hire the Rug Doctor cleaner from Homebase. It costs about £40 for 24 hours. It's cheap but it's heavy and really hard work!.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 22/10/2014 22:18

Thank you lib but I just mean for streamlining purposes, haven't given it much thought though. I will definitely need one of those backless stick on bras - it gets sexier by the minute!

I will have a look at J crew Karbea but I would definitely want to see them in person so I'd need to check whether any of their UK stores have the bridal/bridesmaid ranges.

Oh totally forgot to say I got this cashmere scarf today in & Other Stories. Really good value. It was the only shop we went in today where we looked at every single thing, they have some lovely stuff.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 22/10/2014 22:20

betty the last MU was my first one. It was scary but the copious amounts of prosecco helped Grin Also Shop offered to meet me beforehand and I was one of the first to arrive which was nice, didn't have to walk into a room of strangers!

Drywhiteplease · 22/10/2014 22:32

Betty I can highly recommend MUs. I loved the "reveal" "oh wow it's Liberty/Sleep/Blairand the whooping when people arrived. I didn't find it at all intimidating, just great fun. Like meeting old friends but really well dressed ones

libertychick · 22/10/2014 22:32

ThanksNovice. We do have a dyson, DH hasn't be able to hoover following his knee op, it's a banned activity for 3 months so the carpets are probably looking so bad because they have only been getting done once a week by me. I'm very tempted to outsource this job! Will get some quotes.

Blair I not entirely surprised that you forgot to link your scarf!!

OneLittleLady · 22/10/2014 22:51

thanks for outfit compliments!

betty you will love MU. I was terrified the first time, traveled to London on my own, trekked across London on my own but it was so worth it. The cries of 'ooooh it's One' were a lovely welcome indeed Grin i was not well dressed apart from my swanky red boots and a sweating mess when I arrived as I got lost and then had to double back on myself!

LinusDKD · 23/10/2014 07:09

Morning!

Brrr it's cold! Only 2 degrees here! DH has just put the heating on this morning as it was a clear sign it was time.

Wearing my Goldsign Virtuals, a new Brooks Brothers non-iron shirt (reccomended by Betty from Bergdorf Goodman in her autobiography so I thought I'd give it a try) and my new J Crew jumper I bought in the sales.

Now all I need is a pair of thick socks!

betty last MU was my first as well and the welcome I got was incredible. I did have a glass of bubbles beforehand to steady my nerves but everyone was so kind to me I felt at home immediately.

I just wished I could have stayed longer! And I wish I could come to this one, sooo Envy

Mominatrix · 23/10/2014 07:15

novice: LOVE the bag, and the colour is perfect. It looks like a taupe? Great colour which can be used in all 4 theoretical seasons.

blair: beautiful dress (thanks for linking). Jimmy Choo does a bridal range, and they have a lovely 3 inch heel. You might want to check out their Bicester store which does have their party ranges in sometimes. Also at Bicester is a La Perla outlet - what I wore for my wedding, and have never worn since as it was so delicate. Defintely special occasion lingerie, and not everyday ware. Great idea, Karbea- J Crew do do bridesmaid type dresses. Not sure if they have then in the shops here - as they are an American company, see if they can oder some into the shop for you (this way you can simply return on site if you don't like them).

betty: great choice for a work dress - looks versatile, comfortable, and easy to wear. Cos is another store which has very good workwear - it is very much Philiphile-esque, and definitely is not photogenic, so you need to go in and try things ons. You'll have fun at the MU - I love them.

liberty: glad the talk went well. I admire anyone who can public speak. I have terrible stage fright, which is probably why I went into a profession where my customers/audience are all unconscious. I can't do baths - the idea always sounds wonderful, and I do enjoy the first 5-10 minutes, then I start getting antsy and need to get out of the tub. Not really worth it when it takes longer to fill and drain the tub than the time I stay in!

Well done one on starting your clear out. I find it a very cathartic experience, but tend to over-cull. Not sure if charities come pick-up, but I don't see why not if you have a substantial amount.

What an amazing event Sleep - bet your children are getting kick out of glimpsing their father on TV. Maybe next year?

I think I am going to look into Chemdry, dry. I have some puppy accident stains which don't seem to be able to removed with soap and water. Don't need the professions as it really is just one small area. Where can I find the product?

Hope you are having fun shop.

Today will be spent at a skatepark. Oh the joys of half-term.

Drywhiteplease · 23/10/2014 07:56

Mon I haven't a clue. I bought mine from a carpet cleaner who came years ago. I'll google tonight and get back to you.

shopafrolic · 23/10/2014 08:02

Morning all.
Too much to catch up on.
Lib glad it went well. We get our carpets professionally cleaned once a year and then use OxyCic stain remover and Dyson powder for cleaning if things look grubby in between. We have a Dyson roller ball vac and a Dyson Animal handheld vac which is AWESOME. I love it, love it, love it.
Blair your wedding dress purchase sounds much like mine - made me :)
Dry I just spat my granola out when I read that your dad has a beard Grin
Mom puppy? Tell me more dog lover
Betty lovely that you'll be joining us. Everyone is so lovely, you'll be made v welcome I promise. didn't know Linus had been drinking beforehand
