Looking for a bit of help - I know I am a winter, but not sure what type. Have blue/grey eyes, mid brown hair ( originally with slight reddish tint), paleish skin that freckles slightly in the sun, can tan lightly but never very deeply. Am not as high contrast as say Courtney Cox, fairly vivid blues/purples/pinks look good on me.
Also am not sure exactly what is meant by the style terms such as gamine/natural/dramatic etc. Could anyone post links to tests/quiz so that I could try to determine for myself?

ThePerfectNegroni · 14/08/2014 15:55

Thanks missscatterbrain. The woolovers bobbled but some regular maintenance with a bic razor keeps on top of it. Not sure what to do or if I should spend a bit more. A grey and damson one on each site would be £60 for the two.

MissScatterbrain · 14/08/2014 16:58

Aunty - how do you know you are a winter? Do you look good in black and white?

cardigal · 14/08/2014 18:07

aunty It cost me £110 to find out my colours and £145 to find out I'm a natural classic with ingénue tendencies - it's impossible to explain in writing what took 10 hours to work out one-to-one with a trained consultant!!

IsItFridayYetPlease · 14/08/2014 18:58

I had a disaster with a razor so I now use one of these to keep my knitwear looking tidy.

AuntySib · 14/08/2014 19:02

I did have colours done about 25 years ago, and was told by a CMB consultant that I am definitely a Winter - which I agree with - I do look good in black and and white, cream and most yellows and oranges make me look ill, and muted colours don't work too well on me either unless I have a tan and slightly sunbleached hair - getting too old for that look now anyway!
But I think definitions have moved on and become more specific.
As for styles, well I know what I think suits me but just looking around for new things to try. I know what works for me, but bored of same old...
And these days style for me is more about covering up an ever growing list of parts I don't want to display, and emphasising those bits which are still OK!
So while neat fitted stuff might have been ideal at one point in my life, it's not so good now!

IsItFridayYetPlease · 14/08/2014 19:04

CMB had me as a warm spring almost 20 years ago, HoC has me as a jewel winter!

MrPop · 14/08/2014 19:28

Isit this is the blazer I was talking about.

emerald green cardi

Does my bum look 40 blog posted a code for MnS (AUG14A27) so I bought the bag a few of us were interested in. I went for the purple colour, I've seen it IRL and it looks good. The leather is kind of glazed which I thought would be good with young dc.

QueenC I love your boots - I passed an aldo today and saw them in the flesh. They are really lovely, great colour. I also really liked these - they are a much richer colour in the flesh.

ThePerfectNegroni · 14/08/2014 19:51

I'm watching last nights Bake Off and always notice that Sue Perkins wears a winter palette. Do you think she's had her colours done?

NowhereNow · 14/08/2014 19:52

This Pure Collection cardigan in the claret colour turned up today and it is a pretty good match for burgundy: merino cardigan
It says it's merino, but it seems very itchy to me. The label says 10% cashmere 90% wool. I'm keeping it anyway as it was a bargain at £16 for a wool cardigan Smile

Beare · 14/08/2014 20:17

Hi. Anyone know the web address for the style quiz? I can't find it in part 3.

QueenCardigan · 14/08/2014 20:22

now stop it! I don't yet have a burgundy cardi in my collection....Grin. Is it a nice bright burgundy?
miss emerald and cobalt sound lovely together.

Can't remember who asked about uniqlo merino stuff? These cardigans are the first I've bought from there and haven't been washed and worn yet. I've never bought from woolovers either. I did have a cashmere mix uniqlo jumper last year that bobbled but my de-bobbler sorted it out.

aunty the type you are just depends on which bit of the winter pallette suits you most. I don't think it really matters though. The blues and greens are my best yet I'm struggling with emerald. Style wise there was a quiz linked maybe on the last thread. Possibly the chic fashionista website rings a bell?

As a gamine, I do love the chelsea boots you linked to upthread, QueenC - budget can't stretch that far just now though!

Talking of emerald, today I wore the perfect shirt from Next, in green, www.next.co.uk/x5464s6#698474x54 and I had positive comments from my manicurist who said "great colour!" So THANK YOU to whoever recommended it.... DH also commented. So it must be good on me... I wish they did it in purple too.

The current trend for pointy- toe flats is fantastic for gamines, and as I'm a shoe fan anyway, what better excuse to buy the following:

www.shushushops.co.uk/home/shoes/ballet-pumps/ermes-tweed-pump
www.shushushops.co.uk/new-autumn-arrivals/diamante-heart-pump
www.madeleine.co.uk/ballet-flats-0a1023248.html?pt=47 - in navy/silver.
I've ordered all three and can't wait!

AuntySib · 14/08/2014 22:21

Thanks Queen! The Chic Fashionista site was interesting.

pinkflaming0 · 14/08/2014 22:45

It was me who recommended the Next shirt NigellasGuest - glad it works for you. I'd better order it for myself to add to the white and black I already have!

pinkflaming0 · 14/08/2014 22:47

I'm waiting for purple to appear too. They did royal blue a few seasons ago which was lovely but I wore it to death, it faded and the collar went so I had to let it go Sad.

NowhereNow · 15/08/2014 00:07

It's not as bright as the swatch, but that might be partly to do with the difference in the fabrics. It's definitely darker/deeper than the picture on the website - I've taken a photo of it alongside the swatch but can't figure out how to upload pictures to my profile from my phone Confused

NowhereNow · 15/08/2014 00:09

Sorry - that was for Queen who asked whether the burgundy cardigan was bright.

fooogle · 15/08/2014 07:07

I've got a uniqlo merino cardi which I like. I didn't find it bobbled though it is a very fine knit so did worry about snagging it.
I've had a couple of pure cashmere jumpers (maybe mens?) as I've found them in charities...they've been cosy though fluffy but not really bobbly.

QueenCardigan · 15/08/2014 07:18

now thank you but don't worry. It's sold out in my size anyway.
nigella glad the shirt works. Love the shoes. I like pointy but they look odd on me.

Love the Aldo burgundy boots and the M&S blackberry bag!

NigellasGuest · 15/08/2014 08:32

pinkflamingo ah thank you for the shirt recommendation.! It sounds like it's a piece that they keep year in year out then? Fingers crossed for a purple version! royal blue sounds lovely too....
Queen - what style are you, clearly not gamine?
Whoever was talking about the Dior Addict lip glow, I have ordered that and will be collecting from Boots today. I'm interested to see how it reacts with my lips. It can't be out of keeping with a winter colouring if the whole point of it is to "awaken" your natural lip colour.....

pinkflaming0 · 15/08/2014 12:46

Yes NigellasGuest they've done it for a few seasons now but not with the stripe before.

When I first saw your username I read it as NigellasGusset which made me do a double take!

NigellasGuest · 15/08/2014 13:23

I love the stripe!

MissScatterbrain · 15/08/2014 15:45

Wearing emerald cardie with lobelia t-shirt & indigo jeans. Another nice combination - I think the jeans are key as the whole thing wouldn't work as well with black trousers.
