Continuing. From here some of us may have jetted off to far flung foreign parts, but we're still friendly, fabulous even in the heat wave and full of frivolous fashion talk. Come and join us Smile

Picked this up whilst shopping with dd today. 2 for the price of 1 so I bought the white too, look fine with my denim shorts forgot no spend August, but under £10 doesn't count surely a look I'd have never done before MNV .

I'd pack a hoody/fleece for the yacht Dry. Even in very hot places it gets chilly at night at sea.

One hang in there. You can do this. You have pinned some very wise words and some beautiful flowers tonight.

libertychick · 04/08/2014 23:58

Shop what a gorgeous bag! Definitely the brown one for you I think.

shopafrolic · 05/08/2014 07:41

Morning all. Empty dog bed by the Aga and empty kennels at the end of the garden. DH and I cried a lot last night - she will be so missed. We still haven't told DS - he thinks she is still 'on holiday' in kennels. I am worried that if I tell him he'll think that when you go on holiday you don't come back. Any tips / suggestions as to how to tackle it with him gratefully received. Thanks for all the texts, FB messages and PMs too - you guys are just wonderful, wonderful friends.

Dry you need some kind of casual closed toe shoe perhaps? Converse / Superga / trainers if there is to be walking / climbing. GiGis are now good for climbing loads of steps to castles etc if you are doing the tourist stuff. They slip a bit on steep stone streets. Also, perhaps a t-shirt or two in case shoulders get burnt?
Off to a big shopping centre today with DS, lunch at Carluccios (his favourite place) and I can pick up my MK and Gucci watches from the repairers.

AmberNectarine · 05/08/2014 08:27

shop just popping in to say how terribly sorry I am to hear about shopdog. I always think it takes a lot of guts for an owner to say 'enough' and put their pet ahead of their own feelings. I hope you don't stay raw for two long and are able to cherish your memories of her xx

Also, in the interests of not killing the thread have just done massive ASOS order with lots of crazy items (leather mini skirt, coordinating lime knitted top and skirt, cropped turtleneck) so god knows how that will turn out. Must be hormonal.

shopafrolic · 05/08/2014 08:35

Thanks Amber - hope things are improving in your world.
I can see you rocking a cropped turtleneck.

Theoldhag · 05/08/2014 08:36

Sad I am sorry for your loss shop, loosing a pet family member is so sad, having to tell the children is agony. Can you designate an area in your garden to plant a shrub with your dc in memory of their friend and protector? When my dd lost her cat (road accident and young like your dog) we made a little shrine where we buried her, flowers, little objects significant to dd and her cat. It helped her to morn her loss.

The way I told her was that sometimes a body dies before it reaches old age, the soul then lives inside of us in the form of heart memories. The body is like a car that holds the soul. Sometimes car bodies stop working for reasons only known to the soul. I told her that love is like star light that never dies as it lives in all of us. We sat at the 'shrine/alter' and talked that love into our hearts by recounting memories of her cat. We left a sugar mouse and a saucer of milk to sustain her cats soul as it moved on to the happy hunting grounds.

Often pets are the first time that our children experience death, I did not want my dd (and ds) to be scared of what is a natural process even though it is a sad one. I also didn't want them to feel alone in their grief, I rennet tears pouring down our faces as we sat and talked, hugged and held.

Thanks
Drywhiteplease · 05/08/2014 09:09

Shop children just accept things and can take big things explained simply.
Tell DS the truth. That while you were away your dog became poorly and she was in a lot of pain and died. The lovely people at the kennels looked after her really well and she was happy on her holiday with her other doggy friends. If you're religious, and believe in heaven, it's a good one for children; she's gone to heaven with your other lovely dog.You didn't tell him straight away because you wanted to pick a good time.
I'll second the shrine idea. we have an area under a llac tree with a gold fish, hamster and guinea pig make a little box where he can't things, a photo, her toy, a little note, a dog biscuit and have a little ceremony.
Sending you lots of love and strength today.x

MarshaBrady · 05/08/2014 09:51

God Thomsons are crap, never use them. that is all.

back in a mo

MarshaBrady · 05/08/2014 09:57

Shop yes go for the simple truth as Dry says. I always remember our family dog dying under the apple tree. It felt like part of growing up in a way.

MarshaBrady · 05/08/2014 09:58

Amber I think you would look great in all that. Links please when they arrive!

Stokey · 05/08/2014 10:01

Lovely advice from Dry and Theoldhag (also don;t like calling you that - The too short?)

Dry I think you have too many vests as you only have 2 "bottoms" and various dresses. Maybe you need a pair of light trousers/leggings in case of chilly evenings or bugs. Agree that a hoody or fleece would be useful.

LinusDKD · 05/08/2014 10:23

Morning!

Well, I put my money where my mouth is and wore my J Crew chambray shirt with my TS Leigh tile print skinnies this morning. I really liked the outfit but have changed into shorts and a tee as the weather is getting warmer.

Ordered this last night. I saw The Londoner's mum wearing it in her blog and it looked lovely with white jeans but I don't like the way TS have styled it. 100% cotton and very soft according to the reviews.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 05/08/2014 10:46

shop hopefully he won't think that, as you have just been on holiday and did come back, and it will be a while until your next holiday so it won't be so fresh then? I don't have any experience of losing a pet either but I'm sure you'll deal with it brilliantly. Am thinking of you Flowers

Dry I think I read you need 2-3 tops per bottom and agree with Stokey a pair of long trousers could be good, it would be horrible if you wanted to cover up and couldn't. Maxi and jewellery will be good for smart evenings. I take it you won't be able to wash anything? Yacht sounds totally fab btw :)

Order sounds awesome Amber!

Anyone else excited about Roland Mouret for Banana Republic?

Drywhiteplease · 05/08/2014 10:48

Stokey you are right. Think I could ditch a dress too. According to friend who have done this sort of holiday, the boat part is very casual in the evenings ESP so was planning on doing a lot of short/top combos.
I don't have a fleece that I'd be seen in public in orange Whistles sweat will do the job.

Blair I can't wait. Thought it was today and then discovered it was tomorrow. I think I'll be spending tomorrow lunch time in BR.

I've spent a week on a yacht Dry and wore bikini and cover up for most of it, trousers & hoodie in the evenings. We only got dressed up once in a week and I really regretted bringing wooden wedges with me

  • heavy, waste of space.

So I'm trying to be organised and look ahead to school - DD1 is starting in September. Any advice on name tapes school-age Mums? I can't really sew so think it'll have to be iron on ones. How many do I need? She doesn't have a uniform so I have no idea how many of her clothes she'll wear to school.

LinusDKD · 05/08/2014 11:59

Lovely leather bag for someone who's looking for a big navy bag at a reasonable price:

Drywhiteplease · 05/08/2014 12:27

Off for late lunch and early cocktails Hmm with my friend. As you know the last time I had a cocktail or 3 it did not end well. Am worried and going to try to stick to sensible ones Hmm. Really not sure what to wear. Normally I'd do jeans and heels Hmm. I need a silk blouse

Hello,

Shop no experience of pets but we've tried to use the word death with ds rather than euphemisms such as gone to sleep/on holiday. Agree with you that you don't want going away anywhere to have negative associations. Ds understands that death is final and seems to accept that. Burying shopdog in garden sounds like a good idea. Hope you're enjoying your day out today. Xx

Dry your holiday sounds amazing. Would second what others have said re sweater & jeans for cool evenings at sea plus superga/similar otherwise sounds spot on.

Blair I spotted that dvf bag this morning too and thought good bargain. Congrats btw on setting date. Thought about you when I was in Kate Spade this weekend, very bridal-focused jewellery, accessories etc. A bit twee for some perhaps but I like the brand.

Stokey I do shred in bare feet on carpet. Wouldn't bother getting trainers just for the little bits of cardio. Am on day 13 now, still doing level one as feel like I'm improving and putting more into the moves so not bored yet.

Liberty love your black trousers. Frugality is a new blog for me, must check it out properly but like the cut of her jib.

Linus couldn't see your link, it took me to ts homepage but am on phone so maybe it's that.

LINUS STOP LINKING NOW!!! I will be bankrupt and divorced. I have ordered the Topshop shirt not just in blue but in white too and I may just have ordered the DVF bag Blush. I have wanted a navy bag for ages and it looks perfect.

Good name tapes question Stokey. I need to get them too.

Novice the bras have arrived - both perfect. Thank you so much. DH laughed at your note!

One how are you doing today?? Flowers

I would like to say I'm looking forward to Amber's links but I am not sure I can trust myself - I seem to be very trigger happy with my ordering finger ATM.

What did Thomson's do to you Marsha?

Off to join the 'no spend August thread'.....

LinusDKD · 05/08/2014 15:03
