Turq I just couldn't do that.
But......I had a wedding party with 8 close friends. We ate fruit cake, drank champagne, brought our albums, were allowed 5min video highlights and could wear any piece of our wedding outfit. I bought loads of white net and decorated my living room. Squeezing some into dresses was scary . It was a fab night. Smile Imagine a MNV wedding party.

maradesbois · 21/07/2014 23:05

Re tk maxx dvf dress got it in the high st Kensington store, would never have found it in my local one.

blair I got my dress at Suzanne Neville, it had fab corsetry and a huge train with long veil. All very traditional but it was a big church wedding. It was the second and last shop I visited, just felt right. A good thing I did do though was book an appointment at browns bride. The lady was really helpful with advice re shape, budget and dressing for the type of wedding.

My dsis on the other hand had a small city wedding abroad and wanted a short dress with no veil etc. She got a lovely one from BEHOLDN site which is a sister co of Anthropologie. With a few minor adjustments from a seamstress here it was perfect. The dress was relatively inexpensive but she got some amazing sparkly jimmy choos that could be worn again.

More sun! What a great summer Smile. Shop'youll be super tanned before going away. I might have to get out the bandeau top I was inspired to buy after you had the decorators in last summer. Difficult sunbathing with builders Hmm

MNHQ we need a little sun and a champagne (congratulations) sign please..

Santa when my DD was eight her best friend moved to the US during the summer. They were both very upset but it really helped both of them to be able to Skype each other. I know it is not the same as my DD was staying here and had other friends, but they both settled once the new term started.

Belated happy birthday Liberty! (The year after a significant birthday can feel a bit of a let down).

Dry that dress has been demoted and demoted, from occasion to work to everyday (is a bit bobbly now) but CPW has been great! Love the blue dress you linked, would really suit you.

Love the wedding dress talk. My mum was going to make mine (she has done wedding dresses for others). We went shopping for ideas and I fell I love with the first one I tried on. I thought my mum might be upset at not making it but she said that what was more important to her was that I had the dress I loved. I still have it and although it no longer fits me, it does fit DD. I can't see her wearing it though, being a late 80's dress it is a bit frou-frou for current tastes!

Thanks for the welcome back and comments re holiday. I had a lovely, relaxing time and it is so lovely to come back to great weather rather than the usual grey skies. Hope you all have lovely holidays too.

shopafrolic · 22/07/2014 09:31

Morning all! Holiday countdown has begun. We go on Sunday and I can't wait! Does anyone else get v stressed before a holiday though? I am surrounded by lists of things that need to be done. Panic!!! I have been known to get so wound up in previous years that I have given myself an upset tummy which lasted 4 days into the holiday Hmm. I'm weird aren't I?

No Shop you are not alone. When my DC were younger I used to complain that all DH had to do was his own packing, whereas I had to do mine plus everything for the DC, which involved having to have everything clean - hard to do unless they wear pjs for a week! Then there are all the other things you need to bring, Calpol etc just I case. I also always want to come back to a spotless house with freshly made beds, so that is more effort. DH used to wonder why I was so grumpy!

It's better now as the DC do their own packing, if they are coming with us. This year was a revelation as the DC were both at home, so they looked after the dogs and the house. I did do a food shop for them but I didn't meal plan and buy everything (if they can fend for themselves at uni, they can at home). They even had dinner ready for us when we came home!

Even at its worst though, I always relaxed once we had set off for our destination. I hope your preparation isn't too stressful and you can relax quickly into your holiday x

Sleepwhenidie · 22/07/2014 10:04

Why so much to be done Shop Confused. Have three lists

Imperative-passport, driving licence, wallet, phone, tickets.

Should have- packing done, any admin type stuff that absolutely shouldn't wait til you get back (as in, your phone will be cut off next week if you don't pay the bill Grin.

Nice to get done - tidy house, clean beds, admin that could wait a bit.

No stress!

Turquoiseblue · 22/07/2014 10:04

Nope I do that too shop Wink. then I m jittery and it takes a few days to settle into holidays. It helps that the dc are older now and super travellers and much easier to manage.

Stokey · 22/07/2014 10:12

Shop you selling your wedding dress and buying a garden bench made me laugh - like one of those don't buy a bag, buy a bench threads.

Love all the wedding dress chat. Your picture sounds lovely Novice what a nice idea. I've still got mine and DMs which was too small for me but is a lovely, lacey long-sleeved (in Sri Lanka what madness) 60s number.

I don't mind packing for summer hols as it's just a question of chucking a few dresses and swim stuff in. Stay-cations or change of season holidays where you don't know what the weather will be like are a struggle.

Has anyone tried the DVF Bally dress? Matches have an extra 20% off this week so am pondering it in green or if I'm feeling brave fuschia. A bit worried it may be a bit short and tight though. Any know what size XS is? In her wrap dresses I'm a 4.

annielewis · 22/07/2014 10:15

Hi everyone - wow so many summer birthdays going on! Happy birthday Liberty

Blair Im another one who can't be bored by weddings! I love them! I also knew when I tried on 'the one' and it was totally not what I thought I wanted! I got married 3 years ago and you could make appointments to try on in Harrods, Liberty, House of Fraser Oxford Street and quite a few other smaller places around central London too. My shoes were cobalt blue (SATC inspired) and were from Dune. See the pics.... :)

shop I am horrendous pre holiday and always get mega stressed too! Its the packing/laundry/money/etcetcetc - you are not weird at all! :)

PS I could never trash the dress!! Have got friends who have done it though but I couldn't!!!

libertychick · 22/07/2014 10:22

shop my DH gets all stressed before holidays and it drives me mad! As sleep says once you have passports, money and tickets you are sorted! Oh and take the rubbish out! Smelly house not good yo come back too :)

Thanks for all the birthday wishes.

Lovely DVF dress stokey. I have no idea on sizing though.

libertychick · 22/07/2014 10:23

BTW sorry for all my typos. Getting worse at this. Combination of phone and laziness!

Stokey · 22/07/2014 10:30

Annie you look amazing, beautiful dress and gorgeous shoes.

MarshaBrady · 22/07/2014 10:31

Annie you look so stunning! What a beautiful pic.

Blair love the wedding chat, we'll keep you going right through I think Grin

Shop Passport, don't even need tickets these days Confused, lock up. Check the gas, iron, doors. Don't say to the other person did you leave the iron on half way to Heathrow Grin

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 22/07/2014 11:44

Annie you look beautiful, what a lovely pic. Love the embellishment and the contrast shoes.

Did anyone see Olivia P did a similar thing recently - she wore the blue Manolos from SATC with her wedding outfit. Here I actually love her outfit, it really suits her.

mara I can really imagine you with a long train and veil, bet it looked perfect. I am somewhat tempted to go down the "short dress and splurge on the shoes route" actually Wink

Dry a MNV wedding dress party would be crazy! (But fun) imagine the logistics!

annielewis · 22/07/2014 12:15

I saw the Olivia Palermo shoes blair and was v jealous! I would have had the actual SATC shoes if budget had allowed but as you're finding out its a bloody expensive business getting married! Especially in London but as others have said there are ways to reign in the budget.... Also - if you don't want to do a full on wedding dress I know several people who have done an Olivia and worn shorter dresses/50s style dresses etc and looked absolutely stunning!

Dry I think a MNV wedding dress party would be fab - imagine us all making our way across London in full wedding dresses....hilarious! am ignoring the fact that would have to shift a fair bit of weight to squish into mine now

annielewis · 22/07/2014 12:15

Going to a wedding on saturday actually where the bride has splurged on Jimmy Choo's...can't wait!!!

libertychick · 22/07/2014 12:16

Gorgeous dress Annie. Blue shoes is a great idea. Blair check if there is a wedding expo soon at Earl's court. I got my dress at one. In the final hour of the final day if it lots of the sample dresses were hugely reduced. I got a dress that retailed at 1400 for £75! Some adjustments cost £110. I wore silver beaded flip flops (£9) and hair band and jewellery from accessories (about £20) and I felt amazing.

You look beautiful annie, lovely dress and shoes.

It seems to me to be disrespectful to trash the dress afterwards. If you don't want to keep it, either do a shop and ebay it and buy a bench or, if that is too much hassle, just give it away.

If the dress gets ruined accidentally, that is one thing, but to deliberately trash something that was (probably) the result of many hours of consideration, not to mention expense seems so wrong. Or am I having sense of humour failure?

shopafrolic · 22/07/2014 13:24

LOVE how happy you look in that photo Annie - beautiful.

I could never have trashed mine deliberately. It just got trashed through over exuberance drunkeness.

You look stunning annie. Love the idea of blue shoes.

shop it is stressful packing if going abroad but I've realised in this country you can buy anything you forget. It's easier now they're all older too as don't need to remember kids cutlery/plastic plates, monitor etc. as long as they all have their bunnies to sleep with then all is good. I just write a list a few days beforehand otherwise I will invariably forget an iPad charger or something.

I'd love to renew my vows although I think it's a bit cheesy so that I had an excuse to dress up again. I'd go short this time, either prom style or twenties style in white rather than cream. With silver shoes. And fuschia flowers. Not that I've ever thought about this of course Hmm. I'd like to do it when the kids are older and either take them where we went or just bugger off by ourselves and leave them behind.
