This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

Oh and Tweet good luck returning back to work - I remember how I loved eating and going to the loo alone - loving your Lutens pick!

Foxinorangesocks - I've ordered a sample of Lazy Sunday Morning from Surrender to Chance. I'm waiting for my first order. I'm on day 4 of Molecule 1 - No compliments today!

Blaineisnotanappliance · 04/03/2014 12:50

SOTD is Agent provocateur Petale noir-its a very loud, white floral with amazing sillage.

florascotia · 04/03/2014 12:58

Fuzzy Oh - the real thing!! It was my favourite for ages and it's been discontinued for ages, too. The replacement version is absolutely horrid, IMHO.
It really is the most magical green scent ever. Other Balmain scents continue the sharp, sappy galbanum theme, but none with such beautiful strangeness.

As Frugal says - Enjoy!

FuzzLightbeard · 04/03/2014 13:29

I'm very intrigued by 4160 Tuesdays now, will have to take a look at the sample sets!

Flora it is beautiful and I feel very lucky to have it, even just looking at the bottle makes me happy. Vintage perfume hunting is great fun but I have to restrain myself or it could get very expensive!

There was an interesting article on Fragrantica recently about vintages being a waste of time and money (in so many words) which stirred up some controversy. Still not sure myself, I have no idea how old my Vent Vert is but it smells gorgeous!

ScienceRocks · 04/03/2014 15:02

Whoever recommended Tuesdays has led me down a path into samples (my Perfumed Court delivery hasn't arrived yet - I order the JM London Rain set and a white floral set) Blush

Sigh. But in a happy way.

For those into that kind of thing, M&S is doing 50 per cent off Lyn Harris at the moment. My mum adores La Fleur. And Groupon has 100ml EDP Paul Smith Rose for £27ish if anyone is thinking of that one.

Today I am wearing JM English Pear and Freesia over her Jasmine and Mint. It is lovely. Warm yet springlike, and lasts much longer than JM colognes often do.

Loving the perfume porn on here Grin

FrugalFashionista · 04/03/2014 15:12

Fuzz the problem with vintages is that sooner or later they'll go off, top notes in particular. Aldehydics are highly reactive so they will fade or even turn, orientals tend to stay the same the longest. However, you'll get years of enjoyment from just about any quality perfume,

Welcome Science and Blaine - yes this is a bit addoctive

Hermes osmanthe yunnan pour moi. I've never met a single person wearing this one.

Stokey · 04/03/2014 16:27

Have ordered the Tuesdays sample set Teta - thanks

Have to just be patient now & stop buying more samples, while I'm waiting for those & the Spring set to arrive.

I like the JM jasmine & mint when I sniffed it yesterday Science
I have Paul Smith Rose and it is very wearable, full rose, gets quite a few compliments.

FrugalFashionista · 04/03/2014 17:48

Tuesday samples here, enjoy ladies!

I bought the Lyn Harris La Rose fragrance diffuser & candle last week. I've opened the diffuser but was really disappointed. I love rose & would love the JM Red Roses diffuser but it is so expensive that I though that this one which was halp price would be a good alternative. It's too old lady rose though & even though it has now been relegated from the sitting room to the bathroom, its scent is taking over the whole house. I'm going to take the unopened candle back.

teta · 04/03/2014 18:25

You did it for me Frugal - thank you!.In honour of Pancake day I had to wear Sunshine and Pancakes.Got a big hit of Citronella initially - didn't smell this yesterday. Now a easy to wear honeyed jasmine and barely detectable.
Tried the new L'Occitane Grasses perfumes the other day.Loved Jasmine and Bergamot - very light and refreshing.

ScienceRocks · 04/03/2014 19:05

I have the l'occitane jasmine and bergamot too teta. At the moment it is on rotation with roger and gallet osmanthus, my Jo Malone combo, L'Eau D'Issey and l'occitane sublime rose.

teta · 04/03/2014 19:19

I dislike La Rose as well.It smelled to me like an old ladies house.I gave mine away to my sister in law as she really liked it and it smelt good and right on her.
Frugal if you pm me I'm happy to send it to you.Or if you want to order the sample Pack you can get it sent here and I will post it on.

ScienceRocks · 04/03/2014 19:29

La rose wasn't nice on me either and I generally like flowery scents. In fact, la fleur is the only Lyn Harris women's one I like (though now it reminds me of my mum so I can't wear it) though i do quite like one of the men's scents in the range.

teta · 04/03/2014 19:41

I Do like the unisex Lyn Harris one - Le Cologne but I'm keeping it for summer.I accidentally bought 2 bottles so if any one wants to swop - I would be happy to do so.Likewise Miss Dior and a Jimmy Choo one ( which I totally dislike).
ScienceRocks I love the L'occitane Rose and Lemon Verbena perfumes as well.Haven't tried the Osmanthus but love the fragrance and lightness of Roger and Gallets Cedrat and Rose.
I also keep on placing more and more samples in my Surrender to chance basket.Every time someone mentions one I think I will like - I save it.

OneLittleLady · 04/03/2014 19:47

I love Miss Dior! I'd happily swap for it if there's anything I want rid of that you'd like Teta? I don't have anything faintly exotic or niche though, mine are all very mainstream so might not appeal Sad

teta · 04/03/2014 19:59

Onelittlelady pm me if you have any green florals or citrus perfumes that you want to swop.

ScienceRocks · 04/03/2014 21:33

Le cologne! That's the one. Teta, you may be my perfume twin esp as I like citrusy smells too (have a soft spot for ckbe and ckone).

YouCanCallMeBetty · 04/03/2014 21:35

Hello, do you mind if I gate crash to ask you knowledgable ones a a question? I'd like to buy SIL some perfume for her birthday, but I can't afford to spend a lot. I've been looking at Monotheme and Roger & Gallet in M&S, and some of them smell nice to my uneducated nose. But Sali Hughes says never buy cheap perfume because it will always smell cheap - is this true, in your opinion?

YouCanCallMeBetty · 05/03/2014 06:10

Oh and you've inspired me to order a sample set from 2160 Tuesdays Smile

YouCanCallMeBetty · 05/03/2014 06:12

4160 even!

wiltingfast · 05/03/2014 08:29

Ignore Sali Betty! I think there are plenty of good cheap perfumes around. The Lyn Harris ones in M&S in particular are half price at the moment and they do NOT smell cheap imo Smile

I have La Rose which I really like, to my nose it is a v unusual rose though, v green and earthy, not the usual delicater floral I associate with rose.

I have no experience thw Roger & Gallet but they seem to be well respected as are the Fragonard perfumes. I'm sure someone else will be along with more tips soon!

Sotd for me is mona di orio vanille. LooOve this, got a largish sample on the go, way too pricy for a fb so will have to mind it Grin

teta · 05/03/2014 09:47

Sotd is Urura's Tokyo Cafe by 4160 Tuesdays. It really does smell like fresh blossom on a spring day. This scent is so easy to like.I am going to bombard everyone at the gym with it this morning( am I the only one who perfumes up for the gym?).
Youcancallmebetty I have the Rose and Cedrat Roger and Gallet perfumes.I love them and I really don't think they smell cheap. They are relatively uncomplicated though - there isn't much of a heart and base note( to me anyway but I am really no expert). They are more a refreshing spritz and the scent fades quickly which I quite like.I prefer them to the Miller Harris scents( although Le Cologne is quite bracing ).

FuzzLightbeard · 05/03/2014 10:00

Betty I totally agree with Wilting and Teta, there are very many excellent but affordable gems around. Having said that though, perfume is so subjective so that even if you were to spend hundreds on a bottle as a gift, there is no guarantee that the recipient will like it (even if you know them and their tastes inside out!)

I much prefer it if people tell me they are thinking of buying me perfume and if there is anything I want, or ask what scents I prefer. If what they are after is expensive, you can always look at the matching body products as they are often less pricey but still make a lovely gift Smile
