This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

Frugal- I tried Valentino Uomo yesterday and loved it: Bergamot, Myrtle, Chocolate, Nuts, Leather and Coffee. It manages to be smooth rather than like a gourmand and I thought it was great as a female scent.

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2014 10:10

I have been buying from allbeauty for a long time- it used to be called Cheap Smells but had the sense to change their name. They have very good prices without the overheads of the High Street, and free postage if you don't mind waiting a week and are based in the UK. I highly recommend it. Trawling though their site is a real time sucker though- I get completely lost in it.

Stokey · 25/03/2014 11:55

SOTD Channel Coromandel - read a blog that recommended it as a cold scent & it is certainly breaking through my blocked nose.

Must look at AllBeauty, although feel like I have a lot of perfume to assimilate still with all my samples.

Apatite1 · 25/03/2014 11:57

SOTD is Profumum Roma Aqcua e zucherro. It's very sweet and lasts forever. V high quality stuff.

I am also a fan of allbeauty.com

OneLittleLady · 25/03/2014 12:42

I still have Yatagan up for swap if anyone is interested. Much as I like it, it gives me awful headaches. I was kindly given it by another poster but it's just not for me.

FuzzLightbeard · 25/03/2014 14:12

I love allbeauty too, so many bargains on there at the moment!

SOTD is L'Artisan's Mon Numero 7, incense, woods and spices. It's grown on me but I wouldn't go for a full price FB, although not sure if they've discontinued this range now anyway.

ScienceRocks · 25/03/2014 14:22

Hmm, Rose Barbare has gone very sharp and muddy on me. While I am impressed at how it changes as the hours pass, this current phase is none too pleasant. Glad I only had a tiny sampler of it!

teta · 25/03/2014 16:45

Byredo's Rose Noir on now.Love love this - but the price!.Smells like me though.A modern take on the traditional rose with a top note of rose and boiled sweeties. Some freshness- a bit like violets but in this case must be the freesias and a little bit of dirt to end.Where can I buy a large decant?

Stokey · 25/03/2014 16:54

What do you perfumistas think of Youth Dew? Seems to be a marmite perfume.
I think I smelled it last time I was going through Duty Free and quite liked it but maybe am getting it mixed up with something else. Considering buying it from All Beauty ( but think I need to have a sniff first)

cosikitty · 25/03/2014 17:06

Youth dew is a classic. It reminds me of my mum as she wore it when I was little and when she was going go out she would come downstairs in great big wafts of it. It is poweful stuff but is a lovely warm oriental fragrance, it's not fashionable today as it has an old fashioned feel, but I would go for it if you like it.

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2014 17:16

Youth Dew is wonderful. Mae West used to wear it. I love it but my Mum says its too "old lady"!

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2014 17:17

Stokey- I wouldn't buy it blind and you only need a tiny bit, but it's a classic that not enough people wear IMO.

cosikitty · 25/03/2014 18:56

Has anyone tried Habanita EDP? Sounds interesting!

cosikitty · 25/03/2014 19:15

Sheherah, hmm, not sure about Halston woman, and the bottle is, err, int-er-esting Hmm!

FuzzLightbeard · 25/03/2014 19:16

I love Youth Dew! But yes, less is more with that one Wink

Cosikitty Habanita EDP is one of my absolute all time favourites, I was lucky enough to get a bottle for Christmas. Really worth getting hold of a sample if you can, it is another full on, one spray only perfume though!

cosikitty · 25/03/2014 19:24

Habanita is only £39 for the 75ml bottle on Allbeaty, although I don't think I would purchase blind. Wish they had a smaller bottle.

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2014 20:06

Habanita is wonderful: Amber, Oakmoss, Leather. It's a true Oriental. I love it.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 25/03/2014 20:50

I love Halston. The bottle was designed by Elsa Peretti.

I have the Pierre Cardin in my basket.

wiltingfast · 25/03/2014 23:20

I love habanita too. It's currently sitting in my allbeauty basket with jacomo silences and cabochard while I contemplate! Am also tempted to buy elizabeth arden's blue grass, it's sooo cheap and I've a yen to try it since I read a review on iscentyouaday.

MissBattleaxe · 26/03/2014 11:05

wiltingfast- that's a great blog Smile

Jacomo Silences has been described as a less expensive version of Chanel No 19 by The Perfumed Dandy no less.

ScienceRocks · 26/03/2014 11:42

Today I am wearing L'Artisan Seville a L'Aube. When I put it on, I thought "yes!". It really felt like me, flowery but with an undercurrent of incense. But now, a few hours on, the lovely warm sandalwood vibe has gone and I am left with what smells like decomposing oranges and it isn't very nice!

On a more positive note, my vintage Ysatis arrived yesterday and I enjoyed that very much last night. It smells exactly as I remember from 20 years ago, and I still like it very much. It is one of those perfumes that suits my skin.

cosikitty · 26/03/2014 12:52

I am wearing Roberto Cavalli today, it's a nice oriental floral which was a spur of the moment airport purchase, not as interesting as I thought it was at first, think I was just surprised that a mainstream perfume was actually quite strong and it stood out on the particular day from all the fruity florals. Does anyone else use ones they bored of a lot just to get rid of them, or is that just me? I have a one out one in policy so that's my motive for using it up I suppose Grin

FuzzLightbeard · 26/03/2014 13:42

Science I really want to try Seville a L'Aube, I just love the romanticism of the story behind it.

Cosi I have a fair few perfumes that I really don't wear anymore. Last year I sold some on ebay in the run up to Christmas and will have a similar cull this year. It's not even that I don't like them, I just have others I'd rather wear or I get excited by new samples and wear them instead!

Got my package from Bloom today, 12 spray samples to explore (no freebies, but excellent value and free UK postage.)

I've had a few sprays of Magnetic Scent Tindrer- one of my neighbours has beautiful deep purple violets all over her front lawn at the moment. If I were to go out on a fresh, dewy sunny spring morning and bury my face in her lawn, this is what it would smell like. It reminds me a bit of Apres L'Ondee.

ScienceRocks · 26/03/2014 13:51

Fuzz, if you PM me, I can post you the rest of my sample. It's only tiny, but you are welcome to it.

wiltingfast · 26/03/2014 13:53

Do you think I really need Habanita as well as "Tabac Blond* in my life?! Am trying to decide if it is worth 50e ....
