This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

Got the chance to do a little bit of sniffing today (until DS1 decided to start rolling around on the floor in HoF) La Petite Robe Noire Couture, which was all sweet cherries and at the opposite end of the spectrum, Sahara Noir, very dry incense/ amber. Really enjoyed Sahara Noir but at that price there are lots of similar but less expensive options. It reminded me of a cross between L'Occitane's Eau D'Iparie and CDG Avignon. Also had another try of Ambre des Merveilles but don't think it stood much chance against the other two!

I picked up a bottle of Lyn Harris La Fleur in M&S at half price before they stop selling it. I do like it, tuberose and gardenia with a bit of spice.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 15/03/2014 18:46

SOTD, courtesy of a large squirt in Liberty is Molecule 01. Eight hours later, I can now smell it. It smelled like vaseline and a bit woody when I first squirted it. Woman in Liberty was explaining to a man, that although you can't smell it yourself, other people can. He looked bemused, and said "What's the point of that?" Then he turned to me, before I had squirted, and said "Can you smell it on my wrist?" I couldn't. Emperor's new clothes, I'd say.

I have sent of for some random(ish) samples from Les Senteurs which include Lipstick Rose, LADDM and Kinze Sec. Can't remember what the other one was.

florascotia · 15/03/2014 20:15

Thanks to generosity of Netherlands parfumerie Parfumaria, I have two free samples of Nicolai scents to pass on, if anyone is interested. One is Rose Oud (spicy, smoky rose - confused the dog who sniffed my wrist as I passed by, then recoiled). The other is Kiss Me Tender which is sweet (heliotrope, almond, cinnamon) and musky. Please PM me if you are interested.

Apologies to posters if scents I promised to send earlier have not yet arrived. I honestly have posted them....

Stokey · 16/03/2014 07:39

Housewife I tried my first CB I Hate perfume yesterday To See A Flower. I really liked it eartth lightly floral, like my garden after the rain, definitely a real wet soil smell. Sillage was poor though, was reaching for it again after about 2 hours.

Sheherazade good choices. LADDM was the first sample I got and I keep going back to it, very compulsive. I sprayed some Fredric Malle last week and liked Lipstick Rose over Carnal Flower & Potrait of a Lady.

Gorgeous day here and the plum blossom has come out overnight on the tree in our garden, not sure what SOTD will be but a springlike floral I suspect.

ScienceRocks · 16/03/2014 18:48

Frugal, I reckon my love and tears was gone in an hour! Meant to take it with me this weekend so I could see if it lasted a little longer, but I left it on my bed instead of packing it. So I wore l'occitane jasmine and bergamot all weekend as I had a sample in my bag. When I got home earlier, the sunshine spurred me on to put on uhuru Tokyo cafe from my Tuesday samples again. Now it is getting dark, it's slightly sharp tones don't feel quite right although they did earlier on.

Tomorrow I am going into London so I will try one of my Jo Malone London rain samples. I have no imagination!

cosikitty · 16/03/2014 19:55

SOTD Lolita Lempicka L. I can never decide if this is a summer or winter one but enjoyed it today.

FuzzLightbeard · 16/03/2014 21:11

I've been wearing Lyn Harris La Fleur today, I've really enjoyed it in the sunshine. The tuberose in it reminds me of Fracas, but it's like a quieter, less obnoxious relative Grin

foxinorangesocks · 16/03/2014 21:15

Frugal I have ordered a batch of nose samples and there are two heeleys ones in there. I love the concept but don't feel convinced that I'll love what I'm sent - I will report back!

Stokey · 17/03/2014 09:29

Cosi is that the coconut one? Smelled it the other day and found it quite fascinating.

foxinorangesocks · 17/03/2014 10:19

Coconut you say? - I will have to this to my ever growing list..

Stokey · 17/03/2014 10:43

Have you tried Creed Virgin Island Water Fox? Good for coconut lovers

SOTD is Coromandel - trying for the first time. It is probably my unrefined nose but am reminded of Dior Addict ... anyone else get this?

foxinorangesocks · 17/03/2014 11:13

Yes I love love that but wish it wasn't so eye wateringly expensive. It will be mine though Smile

cressetmama · 17/03/2014 11:43

Got my Perfumed Court decants at the weekend and am trying, and loving, Maison Martin Margiela Untitled. This could be a love affair. Tested Marni yesterday, and liked that too. Perfume addiction can spiral out of control... How do you all control yourselves?

FuzzLightbeard · 17/03/2014 12:33

Cressetmama with extreme difficulty! I have to set myself a monthly limit. I'm pretty tight with my money so that helps, but I find it almost impossible to resist bargains when they come up.

On which note, I shall send more temptation everyone's way by saying allbeauty.com has a great sale on- very tempted by Flora Nymphea at just over £20...

SOTD is Gucci Envy, still eeking out my decant from the lovely Cointreau

teta · 17/03/2014 13:16

I've just received my perfume samples from Bloom.Perfectly mini spray vials - shame the Parfums de Rosine all smell absolutely horrid on me ( think a fusty old ladies wardrobe dating from the 1930's).Grossmith Saffron Rose is also truly awful on but I think Grossmith Floral Veil smells quite good ( sprayed into the crook of my elbow ).

cosikitty · 17/03/2014 13:46

L here I don't get coconut from it but it is warn and slightly beachy, but not not in a traditional way like Bronze Goddess or Bobbi Brown. I find it to be quite Vanillery/Cinnamonny with a quite citrussy opening. I think that is why I like it in winter although there is a saltyness to it too, probably immortelle? quite unusual.

SOTD is Allure, I tend to wear this when I can't decide on anything else. It's my spray and don't think perfume.

cosikitty · 17/03/2014 14:00

I do LOVE coconut though. Try E.Coudray Vanille et Coco, I have a sample of this and love it, it has quite a vintage feeling but delicious. Datura Noir is also another lovely floral coconut fragrance, as is Bronze Goddess.

I also can't get enough of monoi oil fragrances, but haven't really found a fragrance like this, it tends to be used in bath/shower products like Elemis Monoi Frangipani range which smells heavenly.

BeCool · 17/03/2014 14:11

I can hardly bear it - I've left the house WITHOUT PERFUME today!
I've been wearing my new obsession for two whole weeks now and it feels so wrong not having it floating around with me.

Amateur!

Stokey · 17/03/2014 14:16

Cosi think it was this one I tried - very coconutty but nicely balanced, was like being at the beach

BeCool any shops you can pop into for a quick spray?

ScienceRocks · 17/03/2014 14:55

Jo Malone wisteria and violet from the London rain collection today. Pretty, nice but gone in 60 seconds! It is a little too old ladyish too, probably from the violets, so nice but nothing special.

Popped into space NK and sprayed myself with tocca stella, which I must buy at some point. I really like it.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 17/03/2014 15:59

I love LADDM. Have Knize Sec on the other wrist - it is quite a masculine citrus, and reminds me of something my father used to wear when I was a child. Quite like, but don't love. The other one I got was Liaisons Dangereuses by Killian.

FrugalFashionista · 17/03/2014 16:06

Cosi try fragrances with Tiare! Comptoir Sud Pacifique have Aloha Tiare and various coconut perfumes.

Sick (=can't smell anything) and traveling until the end of the month so posting very sporadically. If I'm lucky my decants will arrive while I'm gone Wink Please keep the thread going...

SOTD Chanel No. 5

OP posts:
Apatite1 · 17/03/2014 16:27

SOTD is Visa (Robert Piguet)

Cosi, I really like L

Housewife2010 · 17/03/2014 16:49

SOTD - Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin - gorgeously rosy and unlike Jo Malone Red Roses which I also love. I'm definitely going through a SL period at the moment.

BeCool · 17/03/2014 17:00

Stokey it was my weekly "do the freaking shopping in my lunch hour" dash around Sainsbo's today, so sadly no. Any other day I would Pop into Boots and try something new.

It's nearly home time .....
