This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

The is supposed to be EURO!

Stokey · 10/03/2014 13:42

I'm wearing another Tuesdays one too Alice says - think this is my favourite so far, jasmine and rose to start and Vanilla ans sandalwood at the base.

Teta and Science (and anyone else who has tried them) what do you think about the longeivity of the Tuesdays ones? I struggle to smell them on my wrist after about 3 hours but could smell the Urura one on yesterday's cardie quite clearly this morning.

ScienceRocks · 10/03/2014 13:50

Stokey, fireside is lasting well today - six hours in and I can still smell it. But Katy faded quickly (which was good, as I didn't like it that much) and so did Alice. Tokyo seemed to last a bit longer.

I have two more to sample - shazam and who knew? I have liked fireside so much, I have ordered a full bottle (and it was in the sale section Grin)

I am STILL waiting for my other samples to arrive from the perfumed court. I know they are coming from the states but it's been two weeks and I'm impatient!

I really like Ninfeo Mio, but my husband keeps pinching it! I'd say it's a great fig based scent but more on the sweet side, but if you'd like something more green, try Diptyque Philosykos. Ninfeo doesn't last long on me, that's true of most Annick Goutals on me though.

teta · 10/03/2014 13:58

Tokyo lasts a long time on me.I suspect Lady Rose Lion would as well but I washed it off after an hour( Mitsouko similarity). The others do seem to fade quickly.

Blaineisnotanappliance · 10/03/2014 15:32

SOTD is Venezia by Laura Biagotti. Its the reformulation but is quite close to the original I think though sillage not as good.

teta · 10/03/2014 16:07

Who does decants on eBay?Whenever I look, all I can find are the little samples.Wilting, who do you deal with on Crystal Flacon?I have a little bottle Of Ninfeo Mio I bought from Tk Maxx.Normally I love citrus scents but I don't like the sweetness in this one.Does anyone want it?

OneLittleLady · 10/03/2014 16:15

Does anyone, anyone at all like Yatagan by Caron? I was kindly given it by another poster and despite trying it and loving it, it gives me migraines. Uk swaps only though as I can't post overseas without risking it being destroyed.

wiltingfast · 10/03/2014 16:29

I think ebay shut down the decant trade teta.

I'd be interested in your ninfeo mio but I've bagged rather a lot recently so if someone else wants it, please take it!

Tweet2tweet · 10/03/2014 21:00

Ooh, onelittlelady- you've given me a thought. Sorry to jump on your idea but I have a pretty much full bottle of Nuit de Noel by Caron. It has been sprayed 4 times and has been stored in original box in a dark, closed cupboard. I bought it about 3 months ago but it's just not me, was a blind purchase.

If anyone is interested please let me know (UK only).

bewleysisters · 10/03/2014 21:17

Apatite: snap! First proper outing for my Ninfeo Mio this year to celebrate the arrival of spring. It's lasted quite well on me.

MrsSkinnyLegs · 10/03/2014 21:55

Tweet - I could swap your NdN for Parfum Sacre? I muddled up my samples and have a twice sprayed bottle in my cupboard.

cosikitty · 11/03/2014 07:50

It's a crispy frosty morning here, I'm going to wear White Patchouli, I think it will probably be the last time I do this winter as it's definitely a cold weather scent. I also have the matching body lotion but this seems to have gone a bit funny as I have had it a while, but not really into lotions much.

peachysweet · 11/03/2014 09:07

Apologies for thread hijack.
I am a perfume novice but interested in finding one or two long lasting scents that I love. I need to limit it to one or two at the moment due to a limited budget.

I haven't experimented with perfume in recent years but I tend to prefer lighter, fresh, floral scents in the Spring/ Summer and something a but more heady but definitely feminine smelling for evening/ colder months. I was given a Jo Malone scent a while ago which smells lovely but only seems to last half an hour. I also have Chanel Mademoiselle which I love but it the eau de toilette and also doesn't last well. In the past (years back) I have used Chanel Allure, Gucci Envy, Burberry Weekend, the Jean Paul Gaultier one in the pink bottle.
Does anyone have any recommendations that I might like? Also, where is a good department store/ any online company where I could try some scents? I'm not in London but could get to a John lewis or H of F.

ScienceRocks · 11/03/2014 09:13

Peachy I'm no expert but am sure one of them will be along soon to help you out. Sounds like you like much the same scents as me though. I find they last longer if I put some on my clothes as well as my skin, and if I put moisturiser on first.

SOTD is Who Knew? from my Tuesdays samples. I am undecided about this. I do like it, but it is very different. Sweet, savoury and smoky all at the same time. Quite subtle but definitely there.

FuzzLightbeard · 11/03/2014 11:44

Peachy if you like Envy, you could try Chanel Cristalle or Estée Lauder Pure White Linen. Also the new Miss Dior is along the same lines as Coco Mademoiselle or maybe even Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire.

I've been browsing Bloom Perfumery's website for niche samples, most are only £2 for 2ml and free delivery in the UK. I will give them a try and report back!

Thank you Frugal for the tip for applying from dabbers, I tried it this morning with my mini bottle of Pure Poison and it works so much better!

MissBattleaxe · 11/03/2014 11:50

Peachy I was also a big fan of Envy and was gutted when it was discontinued for not good reason.

The following are similar to Envy: Jo Loves No 42 The Flower Shop (available from the Jo Loves website and costs around £39 for 30ml), Issey Miyake A Scent (widely available and less than £30), and also Isabella Rosselini Manifesto, available from Amazon.

Trust me, I have tried them all.

teta · 11/03/2014 12:03

Fuzz I love that Bloom website.I'm tempted to order some rose and citrus perfumes - even better that I don't have to pay for delivery.SOTD is Flowerbomb as it came in today's copy of Vogue.

ScienceRocks · 11/03/2014 12:06

God I'd forgotten about Isabella Rossellini's Manifesto. I adored that perfume.

peachysweet · 11/03/2014 12:24

Thank you so much for the suggestions science, fuzz and miss battle-axe*. I will have a look at the Bloom website to see if I can get any samples.

I was in Boots today and tried:
Eau Dynamisante
YSL Opium
Dior Poison
Chanel No5

I hated them all; really not a good smell on me! I think maybe they are too musky for me.

florascotia · 11/03/2014 12:51

SOTD is Patou's Sublime. Overblown name but interesting smell. Conventional, luxurious, complex. Subtle it isn't, however! Moderate green, lots of chypre moss, sharp flowers, woody powder and a bit of animal rankness. Reminds me of something else - possibly real-life lilies. I actually rather like it - in very small doses - but it's not a scent for the office or a crowded train.

wiltingfast · 11/03/2014 12:52

Peachy, SOTD for me is Gucci Envy!

I also really like Chanel 19 and Cristalle, Annick Goutal's Ninfeo Mio, I think they would all be in the vein of Gucci Envy. Chanel's Bel Respiro is also gorgeous but rather fleeting and I have a small sample of Ordmonde Woman that is great. My local Chanel counter is generous with the Les Exclusifs' samples thank god!

You could also Hermes Jardin series.

And on a cheaper note I love Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea!

Then I love Chanel Cuir De Russie and Caron Tabac Blond for more evening wear. I also like Habanita but don't own any at present.

HTH!

FrugalFashionista · 11/03/2014 12:53

Have been in intensive work mode for the past few days but a bunch of samples just arrived from Alla Violetta: 4 old favorites, 4 new picks, 3 freebies, and something to be shared...

I'd like to try everything simultaneously but my first pick is Byredo 1996. A good perfumista friend adores it and our tastes overlap a lot - about 10 minutes into it, I'm in love. Very strangely this has echoes of Tauer's Loretta in it, but smells much more life/office appropriate (Hope it lasts... Wink)

Oh and my favorite decant seller is back in business. His perfume catalogue is pretty amazing, his packaging terrific and he ships worldwide via Deutsche Post. Five star recommendation!

wiltingfast · 11/03/2014 12:56

Oh and be sure and check fragrantica for suggestions too.

www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Gucci/Envy-97.html

Check the box on the left. Some surprising suggestions actually...

Dune
Mitsouko
Organza
Dolce Vita
Samsara

They wouldn't have sprung to mind for me but it says people who like Gucci Envy also like those (and others of course).

ScienceRocks · 11/03/2014 18:12

Peachy, I don't like any of those either (except Chanel no 5, which my mum used to wear). Eau Dynamiste gets so many recommendations on MN but I can't stand it. It does really bad things on my skin!

I like Green Tea too, so maybe try that (as our tastes seem similar). Sunflowers is also quite nice, and L'Eau D'Issey (which has staying power). I think Boots does all of them. Clinique's Happy isn't bad either, but there are so many variations on it now that I find it slightly bewildering so maybe spray on card stick thingys until you find one you think you like.

Really not sure about the Who Knew I have been wearing today from my Tuesdays samples. Whereas yesterday I was enjoying sniffing myself and reapplied Fireside a few times, today I have been very uncertain. I think it was best when I first put it on but has gone a little odd as the day has worn on. I can still smell it but it is powdery and not my thing at all. Shazam tomorrow!
