Not here for long - bit traumatic chez Grumpy...the outlaws are here. Trying to keep a lid in my urge to scream obscenities. Just wanted to pop in, say 'Hi' and ask you all to say a prayer for me. In the bathroom on phone (yes, it is that bad) so will stop by later for a proper catch up once DD1 has liberated the laptop (she's done a runner with it - she's no fool!)

Mignonette · 06/11/2013 20:24

Saying a prayer Grumpy. I'm saying a prayer. Wine

OneLittleLady · 06/11/2013 20:24

praying for you Grumpy you will survive!

LinusDKD · 06/11/2013 20:29

grumpy have a Wine to ease the pain!

novice would you like me to check the MaxMara shop in town next time I go?

casacastille · 06/11/2013 20:45

I'm normally quite sparkle-averse too, but that jumper is gorgeous. Couldn't see it in my office though... shame.

Love the Gap jumper too, might re-use my 30% code to get that in cream, or maybe grey. I need chunky jumpers to wear with my new teenage skinnies, after all

Good luck shop (i haven't been to pilates since june...) and grumpy (my sympathies)

libertychick · 06/11/2013 20:50

Another prayer for safe deliverance from outlaws offered up here!!! If the prayers fail there is always Wine

Today's purchase is a Clarks Manners Creek bag. It fits my work essentials, has a pocket for the blackberry, a zip up internal pocket and is a tad more stylish than the backpack I have been hauling around for months. Best of all for an 'it will do bag' it was cheap - £24 after 20% discount applied. I got some disconcerted looks from the ladies in Clarks as they watched me decant the contents of my backpack into it as I tested it out Grin. So now I will just chill out and wait for the elusive perfect work bag to appear. I have ruled out the McQ as the Outnet replied to say the canvas part is made of waxed cotton and is not waterproof or water resistant Confused.

QueenC that Coast top is gorgeous. 40bum has been raving about Coast on her blog.

Dry I like that jumper shape etc but notice it is 100% cotton - I bought a cotton jumper from Gap a few months ago and it's not really getting much wear as it doesn't drape nicely and has become a bit out of shape after just a couple of washes.

Linus your DM sounds a bit scary Smile The thought of being called 'vulgar' would freak me out too. From what I have picked up about your style I couldn't imagine you looking vulgar even if you dressed head to toe in camo and sequins!

Casa my new Cos dress is merino and feels lovely.

Welcome Lucy Smile

libertychick · 06/11/2013 20:53

And re coated skinnies one of my colleagues who is late 50's has been wearing blacked coated skinnies to work and looks fab in them.

libertychick · 06/11/2013 20:54

'black' not 'blacked'....

Drywhiteplease · 06/11/2013 21:06

Hmm Liberty you may have a point. I like cotton knits (ESP from Gap) or merino (Casa it is so smooth, not itchy and washes well. why don't you like it?) but this one is quite chunky.....I would hate it to go all out of shape, bought the Xs because I wanted it to fit properly. Thanks for the advice.
Nice bag btw.....lol at you emptying the contents of your ruck sack into it. Grin.Looks v chic.

3 Hail Mary's and an Our Father for you Grumpy you have my sympathy.

QueenCadbury · 06/11/2013 21:17

Grumpy, sod the Wine and go straight for [vodka]. I was thinking of you the other day as you hadn't been on here in a while.

I've got last years mango sequin jumper and much prefer wearing it with jeans than dressed up. I tend to wear it for nice daytime occasions though rather than everyday as I'm a bit worried about washing it too much.

Thanks for all loving the coast top. I've just had a trying on session and love it with either black or navy trousers or jeans. It on't get a huge amount of wear but it's timeless so will make an appearance every Christmas forever more Grin

I'm having trials about jeans and boots. I think I said the other week that I'm not feeling the love for last years calf length boots but I've gone back to my knee high and don't like those either. Jeans tucked into ankle boots don't suit me either as it makes my legs look dumpy Confused. What's a girl to do?

Has j crew opened yet? Grazia has been feeling the love for Jenna. Did you know she's 6ft1 Shock so 6ft5 in her manolos.

Drywhiteplease · 06/11/2013 21:30

My Christmas cake is cooking....smells lovely ate about 2 tbsp cake mix, best bit

shopafrolic · 06/11/2013 21:42

J crew opens Friday.
Grumpy sod prayers! alcohol is your friend. I speak from recent experience
That hurt! But in a good way :)

shopafrolic · 06/11/2013 22:01

marsha I've put another one on the board for you.....

casacastille · 06/11/2013 22:02

Dry it's just that I tried a merino jumper recently that I liked but couldn't keep because it made me itch. I must have delicate skin. I'm sure I've had merino knits before though, so maybe it was just that one.

I think I'll risk ordering the Cos dress, thanks. And perhaps this top for weekend wear?

BrandyAlexander · 06/11/2013 22:24

Hi Linus! Thank youThanks don't worry, i will check out the US later this month. If I bought it from afar and decided I didn't like it that would be a v expensive mistake!

I got some news today....the government has agreed to fund an IT teacher for my sponsored school and publicly announced it at the official handing over of goodies ceremony today (which I missed as I can only stretch the dcs patience so far!).

Dd was very happy as she got the treat she missed out on, on Monday. She's never been in my car and so there she was today in her child seat, strapped into my car. She loved it. I may regret this!

Drywhiteplease · 06/11/2013 22:25

Nice Casa

Liberty I'm worried now about the chunkiness of the cotton.....think I may return, don't want to waste my money.

libertychick · 06/11/2013 22:41

Dry This is the jumper that I'm not that happy with to compare. Hard to explain but it just feels a bit 'crispy' and that's after using fabric softener also. Washed at 30 degrees. I like my sweaters to be soft and drape nicely. I think Mig posted recently about fabrics - I can't remember what she said about cotton knits - Mig can you help?

Good news on the school novice and yes, sounds like you may have started a new routine with DD Smile.

OneLittleLady · 06/11/2013 22:46

excellent news novice you must be so proud Smile

Drywhiteplease · 07/11/2013 08:02

Since I've been on this thread I seem to be returning a lot more than I used to; not sure what's happening to me, used to buy and keep and take the Mickey out of my friend who permanently has a pile of carrier bags by her front door to return. Now that's me.......Hmm

BrandyAlexander · 07/11/2013 08:50

Thanks One and LibertySmile

Dry, I think I more discerning now. I won't keep something that's almost right and so I return more now. I think I spend more at the higher end of the market too but I am a high street girl at heart so my thought process is "bloody hell, I am not keeping this for that amount of money"!

Today I am wearing the LkB ariella in hot pink, the Valentino shoe boots and clutching mulberry bayswater in the grey leopard suede. Bling is Swaroski flower shape crystal ring and Tiffany diamond studded amethyst bangle. The latter is Xmas preset from dh a few years ago. All the jewelry catalogues have started arriving in the post for him. Wink

lucyintheskywithdinos · 07/11/2013 08:51

Thanks everyone! As to what I like...natural fibres, stripes, nothing floral or 'girly' and I don't wear dresses or skirts. I love blazers, I have a few vintage ones, they are my favourite piece of clothing!

Today I'm wearing black skinnies, a burgundy boyfriend cardigan (that is 2 sizes too big!) and a wide striped grey and black scoop neck top. I'll be adding navy wellies when we go to forest school later and my dreads are out of the way in a turquoise silk scarf.

BrandyAlexander · 07/11/2013 08:58

Thanks One and LibertySmile

Morning. Thanks for the jumper Shop, good one to keep an eye on in the sales and love the one you pinned too Dry.

I am pretty strict on returns too these days. Once it's in the wardrobe it needs to be effortless, all the work up front and so nothing is oh I wish this was different or I can't wear this. Feels pretty good to edit.

MarshaBrady · 07/11/2013 09:31

Great news Novice! re the charity.

I like those Casa, think they'll be great with a soft slouchy knit etc

Grumpy you poor thing, I hope you survived. Have they gone?

Liberty great work bag.

Mignonette · 07/11/2013 12:45

MOT day today-Oh how quickly it comes around. Wish me luck.. Am taking it to a Council Run Depot as advised by Martin Lewis as no financial incentive for the depot to fail you.
